Whine House [Dan Collins]

I . . . I . . . I agree with Maureen Dowd:

There was a poignancy about the moment, seeing Hillary crack with exhaustion from decades of yearning to be the principal rather than the plus-one. But there was a whiff of Nixonian self-pity about her choking up. What was moving her so deeply was her recognition that the country was failing to grasp how much it needs her. In a weirdly narcissistic way, she was crying for us. But it was grimly typical of her that what finally made her break down was the prospect of losing.

Apparently, according to the local newscasters I heard on the way to work this morning, Hillary scored big, particularly with over-45 women.  I understand their eagerness to see a woman in the White House within their lifetimes, and I don’t mind the idea.  The problem is this particular woman.  She is perfectly capable of making it impossible for another woman to be a strong candidate for forty years if she governs the way I believe she would.

For Hillary to be swept away weeping for the beauty of her idealism, at her age, man or woman, is frankly disgusting.  The women of New Hampshire identify with her, and probably believe the bizarre and self-righteous feminist cant that declares men more prone to resolve disputes through violence than women, less likely to listen, etc.  What I can say, with some confidence, I believe, on the basis of this result, is that women of a certain age, in New Hampshire, at any rate, are comparatively easily womanipulated.

Look at how far we’ve sunk. Reagan inspired Americans to vote for him by evoking a vision of a shining city on a hill. Hillary does it by crying.

  2. Slartibartfast says:

To be fair, by re-evoking the Shining City on a Hill, but who’s counting?

  3. Slartibartfast says:

Apropos of nothing in particular, Dan, you might consider doing a housecleaning of comments spam, and (possibly, if you have privelege) IP-banning the more egregious offenders.

I think it actually encourages them if their spamvertising lingers in comments.

  4. Wideleg Pants says:

    I object to that!

  5. Wait, what? says:

[…] Dowd unloads on Hillary. […]

  6. Q30 says:

If Hillary Clinton wins the Presidency, it will prove that women have to work twice as hard as men because Hillary had to struggle against male chauvinism.

If Hillary fails to win either the nomination or the Presidency, this is proof that male chauvinism is a live and well.

It really is “heads I win, tails you lose.”

A question I’d like to ask Hillary: “What will you do about the sexist discrimination which is inherent in Selective Service? Furthermore, can you explain why a person exempted from Selective Service should be commander-in-chief?”

  7. You must surely be sweating in a bath of your own immoral filth with it’s ‘ironies’ and ‘smart aleckness’ hoping against hope that the great savior that is Hillary does not become the method of your undoing! For shame that when confronted with a greatness and aspiration for unflattering wit you wither and die on the tree like so much chaff in the wind. Or some such.

Because when she wins and commences to beat feet and make tracks and all that other mumbo-jumbo right upon and into your behind you’ll finally feel the pain that we have all put up with and endured ‘lo these many years. The songs of victory are also beginning to be commenced and you’d rightly join.

There will me more crying if Hillary gets back in the White House. The Secret Service, the cleaning staff, anyone else subject to her imperial reign and disregard for minions. And, taxpayers.

And, laughing; Ahmadinejad, Chavez, Castro, al Qaeda, Jon Il, etc. Margarete Thatcher she isn’t.

Rueters / Nashua, NH, 1/23/09 – Less than three weeks after her inaugeration,, President Hillery Clinton unveiled her new “no child left unconverted” program at a morning news conference in the White house rose garden. Said Ms Clinton,, “[This] program is the backbone I have put forth to deal with any future attacks by the freedom loving Muslim patriots of al Qrada. In it I have outlined the same proceedure I have used successfully when I am attacked during an election campaign,, or in fact whenever I feel the slightest pressure,, think I’m not going to get my way,, or they run out of bon bons in the White house kitchen. I simply slither under my desk, assume the fetal position, and break out in copiuos crockadile tears. Works for me,, and I’m sure it will serve them well if their Burkas don’t fit”.

Staffers,, who asked to remain anonymous, have confirmed that Ms Clinton never shows her now famous vituporous emotional outbursts in public,, where shes been known to kick,, scratch,, and scream at aides,, but can break into a spontaneous teary eyed reaction to the word “no” in response to her slightest demand.

Clintons Chief of staff,, Sandy “papers in my pants” Burger,, said that people should rest assured that Hillery’s resident shrink,, Dr. Phil,, is on duty 24/7 should the President have one of her daily anxiety attacks….Turning to sports….

Does that sharp edge have a point? Once again, parody or not? I can’t tell. It’s like one of those mad libs. The kind where you list verbs … adjectives etc, at random and then insert. Although, another interpretation of “Mad Lib” may be just as appropriate.

You know, I have a fun thought. Let’s pretend all these weird posts are Jeff G fucking with us.

  12. The narrative starts: New Hampshire Democrats are racists

Obama devotee Andrew Sullivan kicks things off the post-NH primary speculation with what he believes may be a possible explanation for why his candidate lost last night: The return of the “Bradley Effect.” What is the Bradley Effect? Andr…

    – A better question might be: If shes really ernest about rooting out male chauvinism in her political camp, will she start with her oh-so-loving philandering hubby who,, in a speech to voters during the NH primary campaign opined: “….and [I’m] also sorry, but I can’t make her a man.”…unquote.

  14. Big Bang (pumping you up.) says:

    – BTW – Did anyone else notice that her “man”,, slick Willey,, was pointedly NOT standing behind her at last nights victory speech?….Anyone?…..Bueller?

  15. happyfeet says:

Hillary highlighted I think really well how issueless the Democratic primary has been. It’s a changey-change I kept my promise don’t keep your distance telenovela mostly and also change. It’s like Ugly Betty vs. Pasión pick one but now we have tivo.

  16. JD says:

    New Englanders are racists.
    Iowans are sexists, and dumb.

The Dems appear to continue to think that disparaging people is the best way to get them to vote for them. Kind of like how calling Republicans stupid racists is supposed to convert us to their thinking.

  17. JD says:

Whoever says change, and the various permutations of same, the most times in each primary state will win. It is a fact. Simply hoping for change is enough. Because, as we all know, if they do not change things, President Bush will not peacefully leave the White House. There is a Constitutional crisis looming, when W refuses to abdicate the throne.

  18. Swen Swenson says:

Let’s pretend all these weird posts are Jeff G fucking with us.

You’re just now figuring that out?

  19. happyfeet says:

I like how a lot that teh change is something the best candidate will deliver, like Obama and Hillary! are pregnant with change and are gestating for the next ten months like sows. Ok yeah pigs don’t gestate that long but this is some serious change were talking about.

“I don’t feel no ways tarred. YUCK-YUCK-HK-HK-HK-HK-HACKLE CACKLE!! I see what’s happening to this country and it makes me sad. *sniff*”

Teh NPR suggested this morning that it’s ok to mention Thompson now cause we have to pump up South Carolina as his “last stand” so if y’all want y’all are free to discuss him but be sure to use that phrase or something like it so no one thinks you’re an obvious troll.

  22. […] allergic to it my whole adult life; but folks, just read Dowd, and then take a gander at this simply sexist post from Dan Collins at Protein Wisdom who endorses the Dowd rant, all emphasis mine: For Hillary […]

So, wasted click. I want that time back.

  24. Andrew says:

Um, is there a reason 45-year-old New Hampshire Democratic women wouldn’t vote for Hillary? She is they is her is them, and they can be together. Bill is the Egg-Man, She is the Walrus, Koo-Koo-Ka-Choo.

Can we now admit that we don’t know what is happening in this election?

  25. RTO Trainer says:

    Andrew,
If we don’t know what’s happenign in this election, it’s because it’s too early to know. The candidates know exatly one thing, which is how mcuh money they have to campaign on. No one is givving up because they “can’t win,” they’ve given up becasue they have no money to continue.
It’s also just plain too $^%&*ing early. Seprate issue, but it is going to make the money issue worse as time goes by. Any politician that suggested, sponsored, voted for, or signed a bill to have their state’s primary/caucus before 15 March should be lined up against a wall somewhere.

  26. Carin says:

All I know is that my husband called and yelled at me for simply being a woman. Guilt by association. THAT is sexist.

  27. Slartibartfast says:

I too hold you 100% responsible, Carin.

  28. sashal says:

I am not a Clinton supporter.
But I’m actually glad she won the NH primary just to shut some of these pundits/”journalists” up.
Who knows if Clinton’s tears brought her more votes, but it’s just as likely that the media coverage gave her just as many “sympathy votes” as that one thirty second clip. If commentators are upset about voters casting their vote for Clinton supposedly based off her tears, then they should probably quit covering personality based politics and start covering the issues.

  29. Carin says:

I too hold you 100% responsible, Carin.

If I start crying, will you let me off the hook?

Well, you’re not exactly getting the nuance of our frustration. See, we’re pissed that people are so stupid that it worked. And that leads us to thinking that (most) women are simply to dumb to vote. Now, before you get your panties in a bunch – there are a few women who are reasonable politically. But, in my short experience in life (40 years now), the majority of my sex have been either totally uninterested in politics or unable to debate/discuss politics in a reasonable manner.

As for covering the issues … well, that’s certainly been done, here and in print. Unfortunately, those voters who were swayed by the tears prolly glossed-over those articles and skipped right to the puff pieces.

  31. Theresa, MSgt (ret), USAF says:

I’m glad the cankled one beat the obamessiah. If she does get the nomination, the republican party has a chance to keep the Presidency. If obamessiah gets the nod, there ain’t no chance in hell.

  32. Slartibartfast says:

If I start crying, will you let me off the hook?

I dunno; crying doesn’t carry off so well over the innerwebs.

  34. happyfeet says:

I don’t really agree at all that Obama is not completely beatable. His change fu is strong, but his actual pro-genocide policies and particularly his tax and economic policies are pretty weak. And also his policies. He would be our least experienced president in my whole life. I can’t think of who maybe had less experience than him, but it was way before Xbox.

Such wit and verve! Keep it up. We’ll see Hillary in the White House next year, and I’ll be back thanking you.

  36. Dan Collins says:

Oh, yeah? Well, you can iron my fucking shirt, man.

  37. Theresa, MSgt (ret), USAF says:

It doesn’t matter that he is completely unsuitable to be President in this day and age, he’s not white and therefore the coming of a new age of politics. At least that’s how its being sold and its only going to become more and more about race. Can’t wait to see al and jesse standing next to him on the stage in the coming months.

  38. B Moe says:

Mona is really out-doing herself over there! And didn’t she cop to being a dude over here once? Might have to try and find that comment, it seems to me she admitted really being a grandfather who used the name Mona to try go get people to be more polite to him. Of course, that could have been bullshit too.

  39. TmjUtah says:

Al and Jesse at an Obama function?

We’ll see glaciers in Mexico City before that happens.

The Dem’s aren’t looking for Change, Justice, or even Teh Children. They are looking for an ass in the seat behind the desk in the oval office and they could care less if it’s entombed in a polyester pantsuit or an Armani suit.

It’s power they want and the last two men on the planet that are going to be allowed on the same page, much less stage, as Obama, are the Justice Brothers (apologies to Mr. Limbaugh).

And just an aside – isn’t it odd, what we are seeing with this first handful of caucuses and primairies? Last time it was Dean the MSM had all groomed for the job. Dean WAS the Left. Then Dean had his little moment after Iowa and all of a sudden they were in the sack for Kerry the rest of the way.

My entire adult voting life I have watched national elections where the Left struggled again and again to pick somebody who could “be electable” first and make sense (at all, or for the country) a distant, two- calling – card, message drum relay, and smoke signal second.

Now it seems the “make no mistakes” school of electioneering may be beginning to rule the right, and that’s just sad.

Remember the Star Trek (first and second series) joke about Muslims? The other punchline could be “statesmen”… since the future according to Star Trek seems to be run by the descendant organization of the U.N., only with sillier costumes.

    Looks like (unintelligible) parody.

A 20 second “scrolldown” of his “linked blog” showed 4 “skeptical of Glowball warming” posts- and one that called Edwards a “fascist”.

    I think we should keep him… :o)
