Many who posted on Facebook expressed dismay that the candidate whose controversial positions include a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States is coming to their community that\u2019s known for its <strong>all-inclusive views<\/strong>. [&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Artists also favor free speech and free expression. Trump\u2019s visit to Burlington has forced many artists to evaluate their positions on what they see as free speech vs. hate speech.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not for me a First Amendment issue,\u201d said Nelson, the singer who grew up in the Burlington area and now splits her time between the Champlain and Connecticut River valleys. \u201cThis is an ethical issue related to how we protect and serve our community from threat and potential danger.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Note these fascists in skinny jeans never tell you specifically the threat or what form the danger takes &#8230; just that their definition of &#8220;all-inclusive views&#8221; is &#8220;all-inclusive to views we agree with.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Whether you like him or loathe him, the idea of Trump as being dangerous to the artists of Burlington is limited to the possibility some non-Burlington residents who attend his appearance may actually carry <em>plastic<\/em> bottles of water.<\/p>\n<p>Oh.The.Horror.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When artists are confronted with speech they don&#8217;t approve of &#8230; Artists in Burlington were quick to respond after Trump\u2019s campaign announced New Year\u2019s Eve that he would appear Thursday at the Flynn.
