Long version:\u00a0 Yes, yesterday we did indeed have “yet another” (so statesmanlike, President O!) mass shooting, this time inside DC, and inside a government facility.\u00a0 And yes, rifles were involved, Senator Feinstein, purchased legally, apparently.\u00a0 Too, it’s true, Mr Frum, that Second Amendment absolutists believe — unironically, to your evident amusement — that law abiding gun owners are law abiding gun owners taking responsibility for their own protection and the protection of their loved ones, right up until the time they break the law, at which point they are no longer law-abiding citizens, but rather criminals.\u00a0 Just as they believe, also unironically, that more gun control will not stop the slaughter of intentionally disarmed soldiers and civilians inside a gun-free zone run by the very government that immediately calls for more laws to layer onto the laws that already did nothing to stop “yet another mass shooting” — which took place within the District of Columbia, which already boasts some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country.<\/p>\n
So rather than calling for more governmental action to control guns — which failed miserably in this instance, just as it did at Ft Hood and every other gun-free zone that is pressed upon us — perhaps the real Tweet Fonzie should have sent out was “why weren’t military members or civilian contractors permitted to carry a sidearm, and had they been able to, would the death toll have been minimized — or even better, would the gunman even had tried the attack in the first place?”<\/p>\n
Of course, The Fonz wouldn’t Tweet such a thing, and not only because it breaks the 140 character totalitarian restrictions Twitter places on its users; rather, because he is a knee-jerk liberal who has taken a page out of the 80-page gun-control guide and determined to jump into the fray\u00a0 and try using emotional arguments to push an agenda that is designed to empower the government and transfer a free country into a “benevolent” police state, where “safety” trumps liberty.<\/p>\n
