{"id":50650,"date":"2013-08-21T11:44:23","date_gmt":"2013-08-21T17:44:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/proteinwisdom.com\/?p=50650"},"modified":"2013-08-21T11:44:23","modified_gmt":"2013-08-21T17:44:23","slug":"pethokoukis-is-uncertainty-about-obamacare-really-hurting-the-us-labor-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/proteinwisdom.com\/?p=50650","title":{"rendered":"Pethokoukis: &#8220;Is uncertainty about Obamacare really hurting the US labor market?&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>His take:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aei-ideas.org\/2013\/08\/is-uncertainty-about-obamacare-really-hurting-the-us-labor-market\/\">possibly, but the case isn&#8217;t airtight.<\/a>\u00a0 And then there&#8217;s the fact that the move toward employers&#8217; increasing reliance on part-time workers is tied to the the economic downturn, not just to ObamaCare, as the trend predates ObamaCare&#8217;s passage.<\/p>\n<p>My take:\u00a0 because nobody really knows what is in the law, or how it will be implemented (selectively, post-election season, etc), some businesses are fiercely worried, while others simply have decided they&#8217;ll cross the ObamaCare bridge when they get to it.<\/p>\n<p>But what is indisputable is that the new tax burdens &#8212; and the increases we&#8217;ve already begun to see in health care premiums &#8212; will extend the economic downturn and thwart growth.<\/p>\n<p>Couple this with other policies &#8212; from Dodd-Frank to looming &#8220;revenue enhancers&#8221; that the GOP has apparently already agreed to in exchange for cuts in the rate of spending increases (sold to us as &#8220;cuts&#8221;) to the threat of &#8220;comprehensive immigration reform&#8221; passing, and I think Pethokoukis is straining too hard for neutrality in his assessment, to the point where he&#8217;s completely underselling the looming economic impact ObamaCare will have on the markets, both through increases in health care costs, the tax burden on employers, or the dumping of employees into exchanges that aren&#8217;t ready and will be a &#8220;train wreck&#8221; of epic legislative and implementation proportions.<\/p>\n<p>Me, I&#8217;m not a journalist.\u00a0 So there&#8217;s no reason for me to pretend I find merit in the statements of people like Austin Goolsby, who remains a shill for this catastrophe that will in fact fundamentally transform us &#8212; regardless of the economic impact &#8212; into subjects, and create precedent for all sort of new mandates that the progressives are no doubt already drawing up, and that the neo-statist Republicans are looking to fund raise against, even as they do nothing to prevent implementation.<\/p>\n<p>Because all of these measures help grow the power and influence and revenue of the ruling class. And they are all representatives of the ruling class first, and their constituencies only as an afterthought.<\/p>\n<p>Pitchforks and tri-cornered hats.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what I see over the horizon.<\/p>\n<p>But then, that&#8217;s one of the perks of not being a journalist and not having to hold anything back.\u00a0 Not to mention, one of the perks of not being on the inside of the contemporary &#8220;conservative&#8221; messaging apparatus.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not a rah rah Republican playing at conservative.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m a classical liberal with my eyes wide open and my opinions readily and honestly available, backed by my own observations and experience.\u00a0 I&#8217;m answerable to no one.<\/p>\n<p>So yeah, we&#8217;re headed for the shitter.<\/p>\n<p>Something that should be obvious to just about everyone at this point.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>His take:\u00a0 possibly, but the case isn&#8217;t airtight.\u00a0 And then there&#8217;s the fact that the move toward employers&#8217; increasing reliance on part-time workers is tied to the the economic downturn, not just to ObamaCare, as the trend predates ObamaCare&#8217;s passage.
