… Kevin McCarthy, third in line in the House GOP leadership, all but said <\/a>that the Hastert Rule, which Boehner’s House has violated 3 times recently, is dead.\u00a0 No more.\u00a0 Sleeps with the fishes.\u00a0 It has simply ceased to be alive.<\/p>\n

Which means, essentially, that the GOP leadership’s plan to “re-brand” the party is to freeze out conservatives entirely, ignore the wishes of those who foisted them into power to begin with as part of the TEA Party revolution, and “reach across the aisle” to “compromise” with Democrats — a tactic that is misleading, because rather than “reaching” across the aisle, what will actually be happening is that the GOP House leadership will literally cross the aisle and join the other side<\/em> to pass legislation that a small minority of establishment Republicans support, caucusing with the vast majority of Democrats against<\/em> the vast majority of Republicans.\u00a0 This includes, among other things, “reasonable gun control measures” and “comprehensive immigration reform.”<\/p>\n

In fact, for Democrats to get the GOP leadership to capitulate, all it needs do is name its proposals in a way that, should the GOP leadership reject it, they can be cast as being, eg,., for<\/em> Violence Against Women.\u00a0 And they can’t have the public seeing them as being for violence against women, or for deporting little Mexican children who just want a chance at the American dream!\u00a0 Heaven forfend!<\/p>\n

Besides, trying to explain why you aren’t going to vote for misnamed, misguided, dangerous legislation takes away from tanning time.\u00a0 And from time spent attacking conservatives, who simply won’t get with the program and join the permanent ruling class.<\/p>\n

I’ve offered up the “Colin Powell Rule” as a name for the establishment strategy that is replacing to “the Hastert Rule”:\u00a0 because if you vote with<\/em> Democrats or for<\/em> Democrats, or if you caucus routinely with<\/em> Democrats against Republicans, you can continue to pretend you are a Republican, but we’re not buying it.\u00a0 Which is why the only time you see Colin Powell these days is when he’s trotted out as a Republican willing to attack Republicans as, among other things, racist.\u00a0 Something that Jeb Bush has done quite frequently as well — which is why his being featured at CPAC, and the calls for Chris Christie to be invited while conservatives are snubbed, is a sign that CPAC is not the CPAC of old, and is just another supposedly conservative outlet that’s been infiltrated by the Party bosses.<\/p>\n

But here’s the thing, all you RINOs with your new fidelity to the “Colin Powell Rule:”\u00a0 when you return home to your districts and pretend to be conservatives, we’ll be there waiting, making it clear to your relied-upon constituency that once you leave the district and head back to DC, you have no intention of honoring their wishes.\u00a0 And we’ll have candidates to challenge you in the primaries.\u00a0 Potential citizen legislators who are interested in reining in government, not joining its permanent ranks.<\/p>\n
