That takes skillz<\/em>, people.\u00a0 So do choose wisely.<\/p>\n And if you choose me, please give this month til it hurts:\u00a0 Jeff is planning, finally, to arm his entire family.\u00a0 With handguns.<\/p>\n — Except for the baby, of course.\u00a0 He’s just going to have to make do for a bit with the rattle I’ve modified, using gorilla glue and some rusty pushpins I found in an old bulletin board, into a kind of tiny, makeshift mace.<\/p>\n (<\/em>wee) outlaw!<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n ****<\/p>\n update<\/strong><\/em>:\u00a0 Thanks again to all who’ve contributed.\u00a0 I’m about half-way to my goal this month — which, with my pittance from Google ads, means I’m about half-way to the pistol I’ve decided on, the FN FNP 45 Tactical (with a Trijicon dual illumination amber MOA 7 sight).\u00a0 With 15+1 available to me in .45 ACP, the zombie hordes stand little chance making it through my backyard.<\/p>\n And those not<\/em> zombie hordes with similar ill intent?\u00a0 Well, they’re going to fare even worse, is my guess.<\/p>\n Went to the local gun club yesterday as a guest of my instructor and shot some .22, some .38 (revolver), and some .45 from a nice Springfield. What I found was, though I was most accurate out of the gate with the .22, I had no trouble at all with the kick from the .45 — and by the last of my 4 or so shots with that caliber I had been able to really close the distance on the bull’s eye.\u00a0 The revolver was the worst of my groupings, but then, I haven’t really fired revolvers, and this one didn’t have much of a sight.<\/p>\n Satch and my wife shot the .22, and Satch it a bull’s eye from bench rest on his first shot.\u00a0 He also shot a rifle.<\/p>\n Now that I’ve been certified, I’m starting the paperwork for my CC.\u00a0 For my carry piece, I was looking at a Kimber Carry, but thanks to Silver Whistle, I’m now leaning toward an EAA Witness P-Carry, which is a compact .45 ACP with a polymer frame that holds 10+1.\u00a0 Not only is it supposedly very accurate, but it’s also versatile:\u00a0 the Witness offers easy conversion to both .22 and 9mm\u00a0 (among other calibers), so not only is it a good gun to practice on, but it’s nice to have a semi-auto that can adapt to the type of ammunition that you might find yourself stuck with.<\/p>\n On Independence Day, it’s heartening to think that I’ll soon be taking advantage of one of our true remaining rights and arming myself and my family.<\/p>\n Again, thank you all for your continued support of the site.\u00a0 If you can manage it this month, I’d appreciate the consideration, because this arming the family thing is not cheap, and — despite what Obama might say — I’m not one of the “rich.”\u00a0 I just don’t collect government money.\u00a0 And there used to be a difference…<\/p>\n Okay, off to the parade, where Satch will ride with his Scouts troop, then switch off and man the table for his wrestling club.\u00a0 Couldn’t be prouder of him.<\/p>\n Happy 4th, all!<\/p>\n ****<\/p>\n Friday update:\u00a0<\/strong> <\/em>Thanks again everyone for contributing.\u00a0 This will be the last update, and I’ll let the fundraiser run it’s course through the weekend.\u00a0 As of right now I’m still about $300 short of arming myself with a zombie killer.\u00a0 Any help any of you can offer would be greatly appreciated.<\/p>\n For the<\/em> (potentially eaten by zombies, because I didn’t have a zombie gun ready) children<\/em>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A second ticket on the filthy Ferris wheel, five extra boxes of lame-ass sparklers, or me — the man who has almost single-handedly guaranteed that never again will you think of a Billy Jack roundhouse kick unironically.
