Me:<\/b> “So.  Latest Quininppiac poll<\/a> has Bush pulling even with Kerry at 48 in your state, traditionally a Democratic stronghold.  What gives?”\n<\/p>\n

\nNew Jersey<\/b>:  “That’s a good question.  I’m not completely sure, to be honest—though I can offer a couple of guesses if you’d like.”\n<\/p>\n

\nMe:<\/b> “Please.  You’re the expert.”\n<\/p>\n

\nNew Jersey:<\/b> “Well, first, I suspect a lot of people in New Jersey are beginning to understand that the prospect of a foppish President with internationalist leanings might make them more vulnerable to a terrorist attack…”\n<\/p>\n

\nMe:<\/b> “—that’s heartening…”\n<\/p>\n

\nNew Jersey:<\/b> “…And second, Kerry’s got the endorsement of Springsteen and Bon Jovi—which, let’s face it, nobody’s taken that pair of self-indulgent blowhards seriously since, like, midway through 1984.”\n<\/p>\n
