Progressives and Islamists — rooting out blasphemy of utmost importance for both [Darleen Click]

Remember the ironically-named “Truthy Project”?

Internal emails obtained by the Washington Free Beacon through a public records request from Indiana University about “Truthy” reveal that the school monitored “hate tweets” and shunned media outlets critical of the project after details of the federally-funded study were made public last year.

Officials called a Free Beacon reporter a “faux journalist” for reporting on the taxpayer-funded project designed to root out “misinformation” and detect “hate speech” on Twitter. Truthy, which received almost $1 million in financing from the National Science Foundation (NSF), was responsible for suspending conservative Twitter accounts and removed part of its website that monitored political users, following the Free Beacon’s reporting. […]

Internal emails reveal the university’s initial reaction to the Free Beacon’s report on the project in August, which detailed Truthy’s goals to identify “false and misleading ideas” on Twitter and “detect hate speech and subversive propaganda.” The article also revealed head researcher Fil Menczer’s support for numerous progressive groups, including President Barack Obama’s Organizing for Action, Greenpeace, and MoveOn.org.

Compare with Islamist theocracies:

Muslims argue that the West should “respect prophets” by outlawing insults to Mohammed and a panoply of prophets gathered from Judaism and Christianity. But the Islamic view of Jesus is equally blasphemous to Christianity. And Islam considers Christianity’s view of Jesus to be blasphemous. […]

Muslims who question freedom of speech are not calling for a special status for all religions, but only for their religion. They don’t intend to censor their own Hadiths which claim that Jesus will return and break the cross or that the apocalypse will climax with Muslims exterminating the Jews. Their objections aren’t liberal, but exclusively theocratic. They want a blasphemy law that exclusively revolves around them.

Totalitarians who know better how to run your life than you do — and they want the power of The State to enforce their will.

If you’ve ever wondered at why the Left embraces or apologizes for such groups as CAIR, Hamas, the BDS movement, and agitates for legislation like “hate crimes” statutes, this is it.

Leftism is a religious ideology with more in common with Islamism than Judaism or Christianity.

What Leftism has in common with Islamism is the totalitarian nature of the thing. They share no assumptions about the nature of humanity, divinity, good governance, morality, or anything else.

They share only the desire to destroy the West to impose Paradise — in a grotesque imitation of Christian eschatology — chaos, purging, paradise.

When the West descends into chaos and the Left attempts to divide the spoils with Islam, who doubts that the Left will lose and lose utterly?

One other wrench in this unholy alliance: Russia’s desire to reconstruct the Third Roman Empire under the aegis of Eastern Orthodoxy. Putin is funding the nationalist parties in Europe, which are more than willing to stir up anti-Islamic sentiment to foment more chaos.

When the dollar finally collapses, all bets are off. The Left will actually be the weakest player (unless they have control of the NATO arsenal), and China is not to be ignored, either.

    Belize, anyone?

  3. sdferr says:

Both or each? I suspect it’s each, though the shared aspect of the “total” in totalitarian seems common, though what constitutes (in substance) the “universal” in that “total” regarding each is very different indeed, and hence, the distinction.

We might retreat to ask: what the hell is “blasphemy”? That is, what gets labeled blasphemy wherever we encounter that? Bad speaking, more or less, in literal translation.

But hey, what shits gives the moon-god, or for that matter, the all-god, or whatever sacred eternal, for bad speaking? What sort of object, in other words, could be less harmed than that sort of object?

So probably, the harm (presumed) had nothing to do with the highest things, but only to do with the lowly people who imagine themselves harmed by speech. But again, hey, what a paltry thing is imagination, wot?

Christian God: Guard your faith, and eschew sin. Love and forgive.

Muslim god: Permit no dissent. Sinning is okay if done to punish sin. Let vengeance be your legacy.

Yeah, those people who claim they’re both the same god reeeeeally know what they’re talking about.

  5. dicentra says:

Blasphemy may not hurt the deity but it does hurt the blasphemer, from a spiritual perspective. It represents disharmony and disconnect with deity, because if you were in tune with deity, blasphemy wouldn’t be on your radar.

Blasphemy is also the mark of the subversive, who is a challenge to the power structure that supposedly operates at the behest of the deity.

I suspect that the latter sens is what makes blasphemy punishable, because the former contains the punishment itself.

Who’s more dangerous, OFA-MMFA-Obammy Leftists, or radicalized splodeydope Islamists?

One wants us dead, expeditiously. The other just wants to purge us of our souls…firstly.

So, the Leftists are worse, if one cares to factor in eternity. If not, Islamists, because nothing matters whatsoever after they kill you anyways.

Blasphemy will exist as long as there is not just one religion/ideology ruling all minds on Earth. All are mutually blasphemous. Only some however seem to find this situation so intolerable that they simply must eliminate all others by force.

The tolerance we have in the West was forged in the furnace that was the 1600s in Europe where it was finally decided, through tons of blood, that agreement to disagree was better than extinction or the hell on earth that had been ongoing.

I wonder how much blood it will take for the Left and Islam to come to the same point? Billions of gallons so far have not been enough for them to choke on it. Both still relish the red color of conquest and subjugation of all people. perhaps because they have been rewarded, in the coin of power, by their occupation and ruling of so many lands.

Blasphemy is the price we pay for not having a theocracy. Muslims are not only outraged but baffled by the Mohammed cartoons because they come from a world in which Islamic law dominates their countries and through its special place proclaims the superiority of Islam to all other religions.

Almost all Muslim countries are theocracies of one sort or another as a legacy of the Islamic conquests which Islamized them.

Everyone’s religion is someone else’s blasphemy. If we forget that, we need only look to Saudi Arabia, where no other religion is allowed, as a reminder.

“Announcement of the Ministry of the Interior …” “The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and who face all their strength to sow discord on earth will be beheading or amputation of hands and feet. “

“Let’s be honest here. Islam has a problem.”

Those are key sentences in an incredibly hard-hitting speech that Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will give in London on Monday. It is the toughest speech I have read on the whole issue of Islamic radicalism and its destructive, murdering, barbarous ways that are upsetting the entire world.

Early in the speech Jindal says he’s not going to be politically correct. And he uses the term “radical Islamists” without hesitation, placing much of the blame for the Paris murders and all radical Islamist terrorism on a refusal of Muslim leaders to denounce these acts.

Jindal says, “Muslim leaders must make clear that anyone who commits acts of terror in the name of Islam is in fact not practicing Islam at all. If they refuse to say this, then they are condoning these acts of barbarism. There is no middle ground.”

Then he adds, specifically, “Muslim leaders need to condemn anyone who commits these acts of violence and clearly state that these people are evil and are enemies of Islam. It’s not enough to simply condemn violence, they must stand up and loudly proclaim that these people are not martyrs who will receive a reward in the afterlife, and rather they are murderers who are going to hell. If they refuse to do that, then they’re part of the problem. There is no middle ground here.”

  13. McGehee says:

The first step Islam can take, if it has any desire to avoid an all-out war with the other five and a half billion people on earth, is to denounce sharia, burn it to the ground and salt the earth.

There would still be a lot wrong with Islam without sharia, but going to that much trouble would send a powerful message to raghead and infidel alike.

  14. LBascom says:

“Muslim leaders must make clear that anyone who commits acts of terror in the name of Islam is in fact not practicing Islam at all. “

I think the more sound case is those practicing jihad, terror and the pursuit of worldwide sharia law are the ones being true to their Muslim faith and Islam.

The only way it will atop is if they renounce Mohammad and convert to Christianity.

Or ANY other religion for that matter…

    LBascom is dead solid perfect.

Islam is, at it’s very core, Evil. It cannot be reformed. It cannot be saved. It is a complete corruption.
