Like Dan, I’ve been punching the clock a bit much lately; but even in my overworked stupor I found time to read Karl’s post on the NIE.
This out-of-nowhere assessment took just about everyone by surprise…even Ahmadinejad. After all, he’s never denied centrifuges, and we know Iran needs energy from somewhere, don’t we?
Iran’s just buying time, continuing to stall, until a more favorable administration gets installed here in the U.S. Did we, though, really have to give them a surprise timeout?
How much extra time does this buy Iran to “enrich uranium to pure, bomb-grade strength”, I wonder?

Yeah, but Dan Schorr said that this came out now because the intelligence agencies were determined to get it right this time and restore their reputations and not get hung out to dry.
