And I want you to celebrate Human Achievement Hour, and raise a glass for me.
God’s Grandeur
The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
And all is seared with trade; Bleared, smeared with toil;
And wears man’s smudge and shares man’s smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.
And for all this, nature is never spent;
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs —
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.
–Gerard Manley Hopkins

Happy Birthday Dan!!
May God grant you many years, many happy years.
And as an extra. A friend of mine who works for NASA in Florida sent me an email about The Bat-ronaut. He had quite a ride.

Happy Birthday Dan!! That’s my favorite poem. the ooze of oil Crushed. How brilliant is that? A lot brilliant. And the and though the last lights off the black West went part is even more timely today than when Mr. Hopkins was kicking around. My birthday wish for you is a tasty cantaloupe margarita. Also, that your élan is undiminished in the year ahead, which is going to suck and be scary and not very conducive to your continued élan, what I hope will be undiminished.

oh, bother. That is opposed to be elan. But with the diacritical so you know I went to the effort of making your birthday wish look just right. I would take it as a personal favor if you could pretend that looks how it’s opposed to.

Thanks, all. hf, I’m not worried about my elan. It became separated from all the silly feedback of the real world a long time ago, except that it’s completely into other people’s positive feedback that it relates to. I have been blessed to be loved beyond my deserving, so, no worries.

Happy birthday Dan and many more to come. Here’s a present, it being near on to Eastertime, a particular beauty dear to me, though not the best of recordings, still, great beauty is hard to kill. (A copy of the texts here.)
