    serr8d,

If I were in your exalted presence, I would be bowing and scraping.

    HILARIOUS!

Thank God I didn’t have a mouth full of coffee when I first saw this.

    OBONGA BIDOG?

    Absolute genius, my friend…

    Thanks, LD!

McGehee, that refers back to the Grateful Dead’s endorsement of Obonga. I loved it then; it’s still blending with my mellow.

And that was before I even saw the “Careful – humps your leg”.

You are one sick unit. But a very funny sick unit.

    serr8d,

If I was still living in NashVegas, I would look you up. I left before they changed skid row (lower Broadway) into a cheap imitation of Disney World.

I used to play at the Turf Club, which I’m not even sure is still there. The last time I was in NashVegas was about ten years ago. The only thing I recognized on lower Broadway was the Turf Club and Gruehns(sp?). Oh. And Tootsies. And there were no bums sleeping in the street, which I always thought added charm to the area.

But even as a country guy, I used to spend a lot of time in Elliston (Ellison?) square. That’s a place that gives the lie to the “country” myth of Nashville.

Say hi to Tennessee for me. I miss it a lot.

LD, I’m not familiar with the Turf Club. Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge? Still there. I’m very familiar with the Elliston Place. Given the proximity to Vanderbilt, EP attracts quite the eclectic set (and the Exit/In is still bringing ‘em in). These days, 2nd Avenue South is the place to be on Friday and Saturday nights, and on Sundays before, during and after the Titans play just across the river. I sometimes stop in Coyote Ugly or the Wildhorse or Hooter’s before a game.

The homeless, off the streets? This might break your heart. If you’re a country music fan at all.

For the record, there were no typos in my previous comment upthread.

I’d ask how long before Obama’s “Tank Commander” moment, but I think by now they’ve already had to be numbered, like Jeff’s “red pills” posts.

Emmit had Moose Johnson. Looks like Obama took note and wants to pop through the election-hole untouched into end zone.

Eight years of Obama filing down your pointy heads. Flat tops, you’ll wear ‘em well.

    - Sure thing thor. No doubt every time Obama appears onstage next to Biden he can wear the mascot costume so no one will notice hes the water boy.

    serr8d,

Not only a fan, but I used to play on Hee Haw (The studios are right behind the stage at the new Opry). When I was there, they had just finishing re-doing the Ryman, but the Opry had already moved over to the Opry Hotel.

The Turf Club was almost straight across from Tootsies, and it was the definition of a “dive”. I played there for $20 a night, and all the freaks you could ever want to see. I have a feeling it’s gone by now. It was really out of place when I was there about ten years ago. I was actually surprised that it was still there.

    Thanks for the memories.
