I’m sure you’ve heard the ads for Carbonite on all the talk-radio shows. I went ahead and subscribed, because hey, it’s a good idea to have an off-site backup, especially one that can operate in the background and stuff. And $55/year for unlimited disk space is a pretty good deal.

So when I crashed my box on Monday (I was trying to install a second hard drive and I know just enough to hose things good), I told the dude at the repair joint that he could lose the data on the box because I had the backup. He ended up having to reinstall Windows XP (SP2) to fix the problem.

So. When I got home, I immediately went to carbonite.com to run the restore program. I got it installed and then learned that I had some 47,000 + files to restore, about 23 GB.

That was Wednesday. Now, Sunday evening, I have discovered the following things about Carbonite restore:
