Ahmadinejad does Sinatra
In a move that has stunned New York, the Bloomberg administration is in discussions to escort the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to ground zero during his visit to New York next week, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said today.
Can I say that I’m stunned, too? I mean, I’m not a New Yorker or anything so supposedly I’m not allowed an opinion vis a vis 9/11 and Ground Zero.
Update Looks like someone regained a few wits as Amahdawackjob’s request is denied (thanks mojo!)
Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly caused considerable confusion earlier today when he suggested that the request was still pending. In fact, police officials said later, the request  made at a meeting that included the Secret Service and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey  was denied for reasons of security and safety.
Geez, when did NYPD go girlieman? How about denied because you are a terrorist, jew-hating, holocaust-denying m*fucker.
But the bearded-wonder will be getting a nice reception from Columbia.
Also today, the president of Columbia University, Lee C. Bollinger, announced that Mr. Ahmadinejad would speak at the university on Monday.

There are a couple of nice drop-offs at Ground Zero, aren’t there?
Comment by BJTexs on 9/19 @ 1:48 pm #
Yup, just what I was thinking. Maybe Mikey wants to talk to Ahmadinnerjacket about whether or not Shia Islam bans trans fats. Nothing like a little moral relativism and state sponsored diet tips to make the time go by.
Can’t we just arrange to push ‘em both in the hole?
Comment by chrisbg99 on 9/19 @ 1:48 pm #
How about a drop off the Empire State Building?
Comment by Squid on 9/19 @ 1:50 pm #
I think the Secret Service should say “Go ahead, but we’re washing our hands of the whole thing.”
So long as the Ahmadinejad Memorial is 1/2772 the size of the WTC Memorial, I think everyone should be happy.
Comment by alppuccino on 9/19 @ 1:54 pm #
Wouldn’t this be like squiring Moussolini around Auschwitz in the late 40’s? (theoretically)

Now look, you ignorant wingers. Hospitality is very important to Middle Easterners. If we’re nice to him, he’ll be obliged to dismantle his nuclear program bolt by bolt.
With his mind…
Comment by buzz on 9/19 @ 4:03 pm #
Don’t know why he wants to look at that. He will probably be getting his own smoking crater in the ground in Iran shortly. Maybe a bunch of them. Although, I don’t know if he will be in a position to look at them. Unless its from the bottom up.
Comment by Pennypacker on 9/19 @ 4:14 pm #
Could someone tell me why a foreign dignitary, from a nation we are not at war with, who had nothing to do with 9/11, whose Shia religion is disdained by the group that DID attack the WTC, and whose alleged proxies in Iraq are getting shot by a group supposedly aligned with the group that attacked us on 9/11…..
….why shouldn’t he visit the site. Is the King of Jordan allowed? Mubrarak? Sarkoze? Putin? Is this some sort of anti-Muslim tirade? I just don’t get why having another country’s president is so offensive. Tell Gordon Brown to stay at home, I guess.
Comment by J. Peden on 9/19 @ 4:14 pm #
Mr. Kelly said the NYPD and Secret Service were in discussions with the Iranian Mission about the logistics for the possible visit, and whether it will take place at all. He said that… Mr. Ahmadinejad would not be allowed to descend into the pit, pending installation of the pendulum.
Comment by Jeffersonian on 9/19 @ 4:15 pm #
Mahmoud probably looked at Episcopal Bishop John Chane’s gracious hosting of Ayatollah Khameni at the National Cathedral and thought, “why not?”
Comment by JD on 9/19 @ 4:24 pm #
Fudgepacker - Is that aggressive ignorance, or are you just being willfully obtuse?
Comment by happyfeet on 9/19 @ 4:37 pm #
Also, there is no reason to visit Ground Zero. It’s a construction site. There’s no like aura of tragedy to bask in there or whatever. Just like a lame sterile board confirming that yes this is Ground Zero yada yada yada and here’s a picture of what we’re building here. You can’t even get a sno-cone.
Comment by Dewclaw on 9/19 @ 4:48 pm #
Oh yea, P-Packer… lets just look back at what Ahmendijihad said about 9/11.
“That challenge is now being answered not because of our article but due to increased exposure of 9/11 and a clearer understanding of how governments create crises in order to justify wars.”
He should be disdained like the rest of you pointy-headed, “deep thinking,” apologist twatwaffles and the tinfoil-hat wearing truthers that match your intellectual heft.
Sorry guys and gals… I’m a little tipsy too, and my tolerance for leftist bullsh*t is pegged.
Comment by JD on 9/19 @ 5:02 pm #
Dewclaw - I thought you were quite restrained.

We may not be at war with them, but they’ve been at war with us since 1979, and they’re doing their part in killing Americans today.

Comment by Darleen on 9/19 @ 5:57 pm #
well, PP above is posting from: Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis
which I think, explains it.
Comment by eLarson on 9/19 @ 6:17 pm #
Ooey-Pooey? I’m not sure it does explain it, but I infer that they don’t “get” the concept of “propaganda” at that fine institution of higher learning. (More or less.)
Comment by JD on 9/19 @ 6:20 pm #
Don’t go dissing on IUPUI. I take a class there every semester, and have found some, not all, of the Professors to be first rate.
FudgePacker, on the other hand, is not a parody. That passes for reasoned debate still on campus.
Comment by JD on 9/19 @ 6:28 pm #
I would love to hear “Don’t taze me, bro” come out of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s slimy mouth, right before 220 volts of electricity surged through his body. Does that make me a bad person?
Comment by lee on 9/19 @ 6:48 pm #
Yes.
Yes, JD. It makes us bad people.

Comment by Obstreperous Infidel on 9/19 @ 7:29 pm #
God, I hope the pennypacker dipshit was parody! I still am holding onto hope that there are people NOT that bereft of intelligence. I’m guessing I’m wrong.
So much stupidity in one little post. First off “shia” is not a religion. It is a sect of a religion. That religion? Islam. And if you really think that the sunnis hate the shia more than they all hate us, well then, you’re too dumb to keep thinking. And why no mention of the fact that his people are killing our people? Stupidity? Or is it just that our soldiers are insignificant killbots that deserve to die? Let me guess, she/he supports the troops? No, JD, NO university is immune from the psychosis better known as the moonbat virus. And anti-muslim? No. Anti crazed islamist? Yes.
Comment by Voice of Reason on 9/19 @ 7:32 pm #
Major John - They do not exist. They are as real as a moon landing filmed in a Hollywood film set. The Chimperor and his cronies at Halliburton have created them, and tossed that brazen lie out into the public square, and the wingnuts, predictably, pounced on it. Iran just wants to create their own power, so they can contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases and noxious emissions, unlike the US whose favourite pastime is to pollute the planet and kill some minorities. If only they could find a way to do both at the same time. This is just another bogeyman, so they can trick you into fighting another war based on lies, sacrificing the lives of millions of Americans, just to line their own pockets. They have trained you to live in fear, and like Pablo’s dog, the wingnuts react.
Comment by happyfeet on 9/19 @ 7:39 pm #
What kind of dog does Pablo have?
Comment by cranky-d on 9/19 @ 7:40 pm #

Comment by zipity on 9/19 @ 7:40 pm #
Yikes….M.Malkin is reporting he may show up at Ground Zero on his own, with the Secret Service detail we provide all heads of state. I’m so tired of fighting by the Marquess of Queensberry rules when those who want us dead are going by none. And our corner (the “loyal” opposition Democrats) are rooting for the other side…..
Comment by happyfeet on 9/19 @ 7:40 pm #
Oh. Pablo has a figurative dog.
Comment by JD on 9/19 @ 7:42 pm #
Dammit. Why did I have to type Pablo. I swear I was thinking of Pavlov, but thought Pablo might be funny.
Comment by lee on 9/19 @ 7:43 pm #
I’d like to see the video of Ahmadinnerjacket’s privite reaction to 9/11/01.
I’m guessing if I did, I wouldn’t want him within a 1000 miles of me.
Comment by JD on 9/19 @ 7:44 pm #
I think all of the zionist conspiracists should stage a rally at Ground Zero. Maybe a crowd of 5000 Hassidic Joooooooos would keep that crazy nutjob away. Or, it might provoke him into doing or saying something that would require the Secret Service to remove him from amongst the breathing.
Comment by cranky-d on 9/19 @ 7:44 pm #
Pablo’s dog isn’t like Schrodinger’s cat. At least, I don’t think so.
Anyway, I respond more to the sound of a beer opening than a ringing bell.

I love that he doesn’t see any problem with that.
I mean, sure, the guy has “alleged proxies” setting up IEDs that kill our troops (allegedly) and trying to destabilize Iraq, but those guys are getting shot at by Sunnis, so it all evens out.
