One of my consuming interests is the upcoming singularity and the friendliness problem for strong AI. Now, Jeff will be back sunday for his keys, and in our tenure as guestbloggers there has been some fascinating discussion of gods and religions here. My hypothesis is that all religions are basically an attempt to solve the friendliness problem for homosapiens, and so there must be good in all of them. We just need to know how to access and amplify those components.
Friendliness of course must be balanced with survival, and because we are all still nasty hobbesian barbarians under the skin, we need to balance our genetic survival behavior with memetics; altruism, generousity, kindness, honor, gratitude, faith, hope, and love.

But i am not so sure about the FP in homosapiens.
So, my last question for the proteins is– do you think the friendliness problem is solveable for homosapiens?

Be a Friend? That’s not in the 10 Commandments. I don’t have to like you; I just have to not kill you, or snag your goods, or poke your wife, or want to…well, depends on how much alcohol is involved, and whether she looks like Rosanne or Rundgren…

If you want to program humans to kill, program them with altruism. There’s no limit to how many of their fellow humans men will kill in the name of a “good” cause.

Hear, hear…one of the most dangerous and destructive concepts on the face of the planet is “Altruism”. It almost always disguises the desire to mind someone elses business.
