The size and “lethality” of the attack on the U.S. consulate compound in Benghazi, Libya, that left Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead was “unprecedented,” a senior State Department official said today. [...]

“The lethality and number of armed people is unprecedented,” one of the officials said. “There was no attack anywhere in Libya — Tripoli or Benghazi — like this, So it is unprecedented and would be very, very hard to find a precedent like that in recent diplomatic history.”

Yep, that’s their story … a month later … and they’re sticking to it.

  1. Al Qaeda has VC Sappers too?

    Who knew!

  2. Unexpectedly!

Translation: This isn’t news. This is a product we consulted on and it’s a product designed to strike a certain pose as much as we can make it. We’ll let you know what the norm is among your opinioned superiors and we’ll openly let you know we’re doing it.

Unexpectedly! is one of the more remarkable subliminals of our time.

  3. Hopefully she’s at the salon getting her hair done so she’ll look nice while Chaffetz rakes her over the coals.

  4. Of course post Benghazi comments were not delusion, they were just lies. Because they knew they fucked up. Badly.

  5. leigh, I’m still holding out hope for Hillary looking nice while tossing the SCOAMF under his own bus for a change. I doubt she will, but she certainly could if she wanted to.

  6. J. Karl: “[at the hospital] They took the cell-phone out of his pocket and began calling…”

So, did Ambassador Stevens use that cell-phone to call the State Dept. or CIA during the assault, providing real-time information about the attack? [Of course he did.] And would the State Dept. or CIA have recorded that (those?) call(s)?

How about the other Americans under assault, some of the 35 some-odd people eventually rescued by Libyan government troops into the next morning? Any of them talk to the CIA? [Of course they did.]

  7. Oh Darth, that would be epic and totally Clintonesque.: The revenge of Hill and Bill.

    Hats off to you, sir.

You’d think this administration would have at least a passing familiarity with Kenya, and to a lesser extent Tanzania, especially given that we just got our hands on a couple of the skells responsible. But Beirut? They probably just forgot.

  9. How about the other Americans under assault, some of the 35 some-odd people eventually rescued by Libyan government troops into the next morning? Any of them talk to the CIA? [Of course they did.]

Mostly, they could have accomplished that by talking amongst themselves.

  10. I should have written Langley I guess.

  11. Yep, leigh. All she has to say is, “I was directed to…”. There’s only one person who can direct her, and that phrase is business-speak for “I didn’t agree with this silly-ass order, but I have to do what the boss says”.

  12. Bottom line is, they lived therefore they’ve talked. Then there was Sean “Vile Rat” Smith, who posted about trouble brewing with “Assuming we don’t die tonight. We saw one of our ‘police’ that guard the compound taking pictures” If his concerns made it to the EVE Online gamers, you know they went up the chain of command.

  13. Nope, he’s scheduled to meet with her. They’ve not met yet.

That picture is ancient file photo, too. Hill has short hair and the furniture in the Oval is wrong.
