Entire spinning galaxies of irony

Breitbart:

Just one day after an Islamic activist attempted to cover over private property in spray paint (and a woman who got in her way), the Metropolitan Transit Authority in New York has announced they will amend their rules to prohibit the types of advertisements that offended her.

The New York Times reports the MTA will prohibit any advertisements that it “reasonably foresees would imminently incite or provoke violence or other immediate breach of the peace.” Those “viewpoint” ads that do not meet this criteria will be allowed, so long as a disclaimer is included saying the MTA does not endorse them. The MTA met on Thursday to discuss the rules, which were approved unanimously 8-0.

Self-proclaimed “proud-liberal Muslim” activist Mona Eltahawy served as the impetus of the ruling after she spray painted a pro-Israel advertisement placed in the New York City subway[.]

[...]

At today’s public meeting of the MTA, audience members held signs in support of Eltahawy saying the subways “belong to the 99%.

While being handcuffed by the NYPD officers in the video, Eltahawy shouts, “this is what happens in America when you express yourself.”

Entire spinning galaxies of irony where quadruple-negative stars hang among planets made of pure fallacitanium…

(My emphasis.)

  1. The Little Miss Attila links in Jeff’s unburdening thread resurrected this gem:

When one side agrees to walk on eggshells, the other side can always find more eggshells to toss under their feet.

  2. - All the towers of cellphone babble have been erected, the social contract of common language has been broken at warp speed, and it will be just a matter of time before the fallicious, feckless planets of the last three generations of entitlement hive minded governmental teat slurpers all come athwart in one massive collision.

    - May they all live in interesting times.

  3. Eltahawy and her ilk are irony free … as long as it’s “hate speech” from a “known hate group” then vandalism is perfectly ok. And supporting “hate speech” from a free speech perspective is proof such defenders are dirty fascist racist right-wingers who deserve the same treatment

according to Eltahawy on her twit-feed

  4. Of COURSE it’s ironic, or a double-standard, or incoherent:

They’re using the language of “operating on principle” to cover for the fact that they’re tamping down and suppressing.

In other words, engaging in old-fashioned lying.

  5. So, New York City has legitimized the Terrorist’s Veto. Lovely.

  6. And these twits can’t even conceive a scenario where this line of [cough]thinking[cough] will come back and bite them in the ass.

Never read Animal Farm, I guess.

  7. When asked for his comment, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula said: ” Well, this is what happens when you express [redacted - statement dangerous to safety]“.

  8. RSM:

More than 15 years have passed since I first read Thomas Sowell’s brilliant book, The Vision of the Anointed: Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy. Few things have ever made such a profound impression on me as Sowell’s analysis of liberalism as a philosophy rooted in the liberal’s narcissistic desire to believe he is the moral and intellectual superior of ordinary people.

  9. And these twits can’t even conceive a scenario where this line of [cough]thinking[cough] will come back and bite them in the ass.

They take the safe bet. Like free phones.

  10. In a similar vein, new regulations from our Benevolent Betters in Government are resulting in shortages of safe drugs for surgeries, the stuff to make steel with, and helium.

I’d love watching the bastards get hoist on their own petard, except for the fact we’re all there getting hoist along with them.

…which MTA promptly REFUSED TO ENDORSE! on the principle that refusing to do so — says right there in the fine print, citizen — isn’t declarative.

    So, SAFE!

  12. And these twits can’t even conceive a scenario where this line of [cough]thinking[cough] will come back and bite them in the ass.

They plan on doing the biting.

  13. I’d love watching the bastards get hoist on their own petard, except for the fact we’re all there getting hoist along with them.

Au contraire: Critical shortages cause people to cry out for More Government To Do Something. After street violence and similar chaos, shortages are a would-be tyrant’s best friend.

  14. Shorter Mona Eltahaway: “How dare you call me a savage! Now watch me manhandle someone as I destroy your property! #ProudSavage!”

Things have really gone upside-down. This is just like those “Slut Walk” chicks who both declare their right to dress and behave like a slut while condemning your very thought process that informs you that they are, in fact, dressing and acting like sluts (NTTAWWT, because, the judgement).

  15. There are a HUGE number of drugs in short supply due to gov’t interference. We used to have several painkillers on our ambulance. We now carry morphine and that’s it. This has happened over the last several months and is getting to be really freaking dangerous.

  16. The answer to free speech you disagree with is to suppress it. Oh how “liberals” have evolved. I remember when liberals were the great protectors of free speech and even made crappy made for TV movies about their “heroic” exploits (Skokie, anyone?). But I guess I’m just getting old because now universities are hotbeds of conformity and view point discrimination and “free speech zones” where they limit speech in case some precious snow flake gets their feelings hurt(all irony free too).

  17. Greetings:

Usually I’m pretty good at not offering unsolicited advice, but in this case, I feel I must offer some to the folks at AFDI . I wish that you would consider taking the muslima to small claims court, or before America’s pre-eminent elderly Jewish lady jurist, Judge Judy, that is, and suing her for vandalism, violating your civil rights, and/or inciting others to act similarly.

I live in the San Francisco Bay area, several soviets south of what the locals, for some arcane reason, like to refer to as “The City”. (Really, how can so many people be so confused for so long !!!) What I believe I have seen, over the last decade or so, is the establishment of a kind of Reverse-Jim Crow system wherein lefty/progressivey/anarchisty demonstrators are granted an additional set of civil/human rights, namely, to disrupt the daily lives of others, without any significant penalty by which I mean one that would dissuade them from acting similarly in the future, near or distant. Very few are ever arrested, some may be cited, but there is never any media followup on those judicial outcomes so I fear that they are of a minimalist nature.

So, this idea of pursuing these miscreants in civil or even small claims court has been bubbling up in what’s left of my cerebrum or is it cerebellum, I never could get those two straight. The current episode with Al-Mona would seem to be an opportune one with the arrest and the videotape and all. I, of course, would love to be there for the check signing.

  18. And these twits can’t even conceive a scenario where this line of [cough]thinking[cough] will come back and bite them in the ass.

Every good revolutionary posits themselves as belonging to whatever the analogue of Stalinist is in their little revolution. No revolutionary thinks they are Robespierre or Trotsky. No one would sign on to a revolution if they could foresee the internecine warfare the accompanies the rush to fill the power vacuum after the death of the emperor.

Of course, a complete ignorance of history and failure to appreciate consequences is sort of a prerequisite for revolutionaries, so none of this should be surprising.

  19. Also, any true revolutionary is convinced his revolution is the end of history — so all those horrible things that happened to past “revolutionaries” only prove they weren’t The One True Revolutionary™.
