U.S. Ambassador Killed in Libya

JHoward

National Journal:

U.S. ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stevens and three other embassy staff were killed in an attack in Benghazi on Wednesday, the White House confirmed on Wednesday.

President Obama strongly condemned the attacks, while also calling on embassies across the globe to increase security.

In an alternate America, a classically liberal President, having had reduced American foreign presence by half, quietly evacuated the entire consulate.

Then, having issued but one warning 48 hours prior, from offshore she razed one hundred blocks.

She never spoke of the incident again.

  1. We should be so lucky to have a real president.

  2. Of course, MBM will not even think to ask why our embassies in the Middle East were not on full alert with a full contingent of locked and loaded marines.

  3. Apparently President Obama can’t see Egypt and Libya from his house.

Palin adds: “If he doesn’t have a ‘big stick’ to carry, maybe it’s time for him to grow one.”

  4. OMG! The pics on Drudge show them parading the ambassador’s body in the street!

How can any vote for this total piece of shit president of ours after this!?!? I’ve had it – next person who tells me they are voting for Obama I’m going to shriek and ask them to get the hell away from me so their stupid germs don’t rub off on me!

  5. The headline line, if the press chooses to report this, will be “Racist jingosit consulate personnel flee imperialist embassy, are rightfully killed by peace loving Muslim freedom fighters”.

  6. Clearly Obama needs to perform a few more bows or other obsequities.

A smart Libyan President might use this as an opportunity to eliminate whole swaths of homegrown Islamists, if only to better cement power. If he does not I’d take it as tacit proof that he is of their ilk.

  7. Flashback: Glenn Beck and Mitt Romney on the Caliphate

I have been told to watch Glenn Beck’s Fox News show this week, as he has tried to tackle the crisis in Egypt. “It’s incredibly insane,” they informed me.

  8. President Obama strongly condemned the attacks…

Oh, well then. I’m sure that’ll fix everything.

Here’s a hint, dipshit, and you can have it for free: you are a pussy. Your advisers are pussies. Your foreign service is pussies. You have Ambassador Emo out there apologizing to the people who are about to attack our embassy, and you wonder why the animals don’t respect us?

You talk a big game about understanding other cultures and respecting their traditions. Well listen up, Jugears: you’re dealing with a culture that respects strength and sees reconciliation as weakness. You wanna be respected in that culture, then you better step up and start showing some backbone, or they’re gonna keep treating you like their bitch, because that’s what you are right now.

Of course, it’ll never work for you, because everybody on this whole blessed Earth knows that you don’t have the stones. It’s too late for you, because even if you saw the light, and started behaving in a way that treated these cultures according to their traditions, nobody would believe your commitment and you’d just come across as a petty tyrant lashing out with his military toys to try to look tough. And they’d be right, because you really are just a little bitch.

    Condemn this, you choom-addled prep-schooled banker’s son.

  9. Hey didn’t I just read yesterday that Obama and the Democrats now have a big advantage over the GOP when it comes to foreign policy?

Because, like, they have *experience* and stuff.

  10. Occupy in Egypt?

  11. - Hey, but its ok. Bummblefuck and his crack team in the WH, have sprung into action, sending 50 elite Marines to Libya…….to protect and guard the ruble.

    Hellofa job Barry.

  12. Flashback: Sarah Palin™ Doesn’t Trust Egypt’s Protesters

Because we all know it’s really scary when religion creeps into politics! Do they really want freedom in Egypt? The journalist in Sarah Palin™ remains skeptical. Plus, it’s way easier for the US to keep backing dictators around the world than to step back and let people take control of their own destiny. Democracy is messy, you know. And what about The Media?

  13. Our friendly allies.

Wanis al-Sharef, a Libyan Interior Ministry official in Benghazi, said the four Americans were killed when the angry mob, … ,fired guns and burned down the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.

He said Stevens, 52, and other officials were moved to a second building – deemed safer – after the initial wave of protests at the consulate compound. According to al-Sharef, members of the Libyan security team seem to have indicated to the protesters the building to which the American officials had been relocated, and that building then came under attack.

  14. “All innocent Libyans are strongly urged to evacuate Benghazi within 48 hours, after which the city will be destroyed. Islamists are encouraged to stay.”

  15. I am feeling rather retro today. I find seeing innocent people slain and their bodies dragged through the streets more offensive than some poorly made video about Mohammed. And by poorly made, I mean technical and artistic skill. Factually it is pretty darn close to what we know historically about Mohammed.

  16. - Bummblefuck has the answer – Viva Las Vegas!

  17. Anyone know who this Mataconis clown is? I thought outsidethebeltway was a conservative site. Everyone is whining about Romney taking a presser over this.

We have a president who refuses to take any questions over this, and is going to Vegas to campaign the day after an ambassador was killed. And Romney is to blame?

    Dead country walking.

  18. I think it’s great and all that Obama is sending the Marines to Libya now, but isn’t the host nation obligated to provide protection for foreign embassies/consulates? Where the hell where they? (that’s rhetorical). In the meantime, I hope the Marines have flamethrowers.

  19. squid wins teh internets today!

  20. Mataconis is a thinker. They are thinkers, at that site. They see nuance everywhere, and condemn black and white thinking. Thinkers who find no solid answers, only additional questions, until they tire out their brains, go to sleep, and begin again on the morn with new thinkery thoughts, followed by the inevitable questions of nuance raised by those thinker’s thoughts.

  21. Jeff – that explains it. He’s basically an idiot, then.

  22. The world is black and white. Every question boils down to “yes” or “no.” “Maybe” is avoidance.

  23. Greetings:

I prefer to view this tragic incident as another item in “The Annals of Muslim Gratitude”. You’ve heard of muslim gratitude, haven’t you ??? It’s like a Missouri-Warhol River; a verbal mile wide, an actual inch deep, and flowing for about 15 minutes.

    Islam is the millstone.

  24. - September surprise: EmbassyGate!!!

  25. Mataconis is a thinker. They are thinkers, at that site.

Do they want pillows for their heads?

  26. Miller’s Crossing.

    What’d I win, Alex?

  27. A look into your heart?

  28. Whatsamatter? Did somebody hit you?

  29. The boss is still an artist with a Thompson.

  30. Jesus, Tom. I was only specalatin’ on a hypothesis.

  31. “All innocent Libyans are strongly urged to evacuate Benghazi within 48 hours, after which the city will be destroyed. Islamists are encouraged to stay.””

Possibly to witness a glorious miracle of Allah where he protects his holy warriors from satanic western retaliation. And quite possibly not.

  32. When You’re right, your right.

But you never say “I told you so.

  33. Told you so.

  34. You got some lip one you. S’okay. You was a good sport to bump the scheeny.

  35. What heart?
