Janet Napolitano — open bets on firing resignation day [Darleen Click]

via Blake, Janet comes in to end 2009 with a statement about the Christmas Day terrorist attempt so fatuous

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Sunday that the thwarting of the attempt to blow up an Amsterdam-Detroit airline flight Christmas Day demonstrated that “the system worked.”

… one can almost feel IQ points being peeled away by reading it.

How many non-Rotarian swallows does it take to make an Al Qaeda summer?

Ace gives The System a B+

Eric Scheie calls The System Egalitarianism for the asses

Jonah Goldberg

I watched her on three shows and each time she was more annoying, maddening and absurd than the pevious appearance. It is her basic position that the “system worked” because the bureaucrats responded properly after the attack. That the attack was “foiled” by a bad detonator and some civilian passengers is proof, she claims, that her agency is doing everything right. That is just about the dumbest thing she could say, on the merits and politically.

Supposedly Napolitano is trotting across the Sunday shows as [so far silent] Obama’s mouthpiece. However, with the growing backlash to her obvious incompetence, how soon, once Barry gets off the Hawaiian golf links, will he toss Janet under the bus?

We need to start a pool.

Expect dithering. Late Friday, early Saturday. Though it could be late Thursday, given the holiday.

    Eh. I’ll call Friday.

If you spend years culling the herd of all signs of intelligence, eventually you end up with the Obama administration. That barrel bottom is getting scraped pretty thin now.

Janet Reno, Janet Napolitano. The similarities boggle the mind.

6 months before Reno, er, Napolitano is gone.

I heard Obama was uncover on that flight and in fact, he took the (alleged) foreign terrorist into custody, while protecting said (alleged) foreign terrorist’s rights under the American Constitution.

    Obama sweats patriotism imho.

Either tomorrow around 11:00 AM EST, or she survives. Remember, the lovely Miss Napolitano is a member of not one but two Accredited Victim Groups, so maybe she can’t be fired for mere incompetence.

Well sdferr, AJB just said you want to torture little brown people in order to find justifications to bomb them, and that you are incapable of seeing the righteous truth as told by the NY Times, McClatchy, and Newsweek those unimpeachable sources.

    Please note the following:

Coerced evidence has a long track record of only being reliable in getting excuses to bomb countries with brown people in them.

Clicked the “long” link, to McClatchy (motto: “Truth to Power” [I kid you not]), which asserts:

Such information [obtained by harsh interrogation] would’ve provided a foundation for one of former President George W. Bush’s main arguments for invading Iraq in 2003. In fact, no evidence has ever been found of operational ties between Osama bin Laden’s terrorist network and Saddam’s regime.

Nor were any ever asserted. The primary justification of the Iraq invasion was outlined first in 1998 in the Iraq Liberation Act then reasserted in the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq in 2002. Neither asserted operational links between Al Qaeda and Saddam, although the presence of Al Qaeda operatives in Iraq (who were unmolested by Saddam) was noted.

The primary justification for invasion that was presented to the U.N. by Colin Powell was WMD. Go back to Bush’s speeches on whitehouse.gov. He never alleged operational ties or links. I do remember, however, the lame whining by the MSM that Bush mentioned Al Qaeda and Iraq in the same paragraph sometimes; apparently, they’re teaching journalists that two terms in spatio-temporal proximity equals a causal relationship (or any relationship you want to imagine) regardless of the intervening parts of speech that would have made any relationship (or lack thereof) explicit.

Our Friend further cites the NYT that some dude alleged Al Qaeda/Saddam ties during rendition in order to avert further harsh interrogation, then later recanted. The NYT also alleges that this dude’s false testimony was instrumental in the decision to invade Iraq.

However, the official documents that Congress ratified made no such mention of al Qaeda/Saddam ties; ergo, the instrumentality of that false information is irrelevant. Evidently, there were plenty of other legitimate reasons to take out Saddam and install a democracy. And had been for a long time.

Other than that, it doesn’t really do much.

Except make KSM cry like a baby and sing like a bird, enabling us to break up dozens of terrorist plots before they occurred.

But I guess people like you wouldn’t mind since that is what you want after all.

I’m trying to figure out what people like YOU want, after all. I’m fairly sure you don’t want us to take a “nuke ‘em from orbit, just to be sure” strategy — you know, turing the desert into a sheet of glass.

You wouldn’t want lesser efforts like that, either: firebombing all of Mesopotamia into oblivion, kill ‘em all, let God sort ‘em out.

So what does that leave? Picking apart the terrorist networks with tweezers, hoping to kill the actual bad guys instead of bystanders.

Cutting off their finances is one good bloodless way to bust them up — but then the NYT went ahead and aired that out, hampering the effort. Listening in on their phone conversations to see who is in on the plots and who is not is also bloodless — but the Left pitches a fit about “wiretapping” and swoons over seeing their right to discuss detonators with Abdul in Waziristan infringed upon.

The other part? Capture those we can and squeeze them for information, which leads to busting up their operations. Also relatively bloodless (unless you count nosebleeds and fat lips), and you’ve just demonstrated why THAT’S not kosher either.

Yes, AJB, we LIVE to bomb brown people. That’s what we yearn for. We have NO desire to let Muslims live in peace because — well, that BROWNNESS — which makes us loose bowel control at just the thought of it.

Go be incoherent elsewhere, but thanks for the opportunity for me to get a refresher on 7-year-old history.

  50. Comment by bh on 12/27 @ 9:34 pm #

Okay, this is from left field, but hear me out. Only stupid suggestible people can be hypnotized.

Has anyone tested to see if that can be broken down along partisan lines?

While I’m tossing stuff out from left field, I’ll continue. If you take memetics and visualize it with the homunculus framing, it comes down to what little man can win in the fight held in your head. The lefties would retort that the man-in-the-sky little man wins in our collective heads. But, when you think about it, the man-in-the-sky is an all-time pound for pound champion. Their little men, on the other hand, are regularly beaten by Captain Planet and Karl Marx.

In summary, if I was a hypnotist, I’d check voter registrations. And if I was a little meme warrior, I’d want to duke it out where Gaia held the belt.

From the Assistant of the Deputy Administrative Assistant to the Auxiliary Adjunct Interim Office of the Senior Legislative Director of the Bureau of Weights and Measures (pays me 175k per year with benefits even if I never show up).

    Taxable Entities:

I will be out of the office on sabbatical in North Korea to study some innovative new methods of serf control through authority-centric food distribution.

Cell phone service is spotty due to the oppression by the American capitalist hegemony that forms the basis of the Axis of Injustice, so please don’t call my Blackberry. If it is an emergency, I can be reached at Kim Jong Ill’s Imperial People’s Palace.

    Happy Kwaanza!

    Sincerely,

    The Federal Government

I don’t know if you remember me, we met at the annual Pol Pot Killing Fields mixer that the Soros Foundation for Individual Oppression threw at Columbia.

Anyway, there’s a seat available on the junket to North Korea, and I thought you might like to see how your totalitarian beliefs pan out when applied to an entire country.

You don’t get squemish around emaciated people in concentration camps, do you?

Of course you don’t! call me!

If Robert Gibbs is still employed, then Sec. Napolitano will stay foreveah. There is no competency requirement for any position anymore, in this WH.

This is the second terror attack while Obama is occupying the presidency. Our country becomes less safe everyday.

Coerced evidence has a long track record of only being reliable in getting excuses to bomb countries with brown people in them. Other than that, it doesn’t really do much. But I guess people like you wouldn’t mind since that is what you want after all.

It seems that way to you becasue you don’t know what torture is or how interrogation works.

Besides, Obama has been bombing Yemen. What are you angry about exactly?

    No. Saudi Arabia is.

Would this count as another foreign diplomacy win for Obama, considering the Dutch did such a bang up job keeping bombs off US bound planes?

Competence is not required, they are the flak catchers. The magician’s moving/waving hand. They only need to be capable of babbling on and on and on and on…

The competent ones are kept unknown because, what they are competently doing, is not for public consumption until the product is in place to where it cannot be dislodged or undone. They are the hand you don’t see.

I accept that there’s a gross and flagrant double standard but exactly how does the media want us to evaluate the little president man and his fatuous inept hard-to-look-at dykey minions?

NPR should explain more better so we can follow along at home.

  99. Comment by Blake on 12/28 @ 2:07 pm #

“NPR should explain more better so we can follow along at home.”

    Classic.

Although, happyfeets, perhaps you’re looking at it wrong. We’re supposed to evaluate the president against the ineptitude of his minions. President Obama hired these zeroes in order to make himself look good. Unfortunately, the President seems to have forgotten one minor detail: He hired these idiots.

Baracky’s finally getting around to condemning the Iranian regime and supporting the protesters in clear terms.

Yeah. “We join the world in condemning….” Because leading the world in condemning…. that would be derisive, even dismissive, maybe.

Unfortunately, the President seems to have forgotten one minor detail: He hired these idiots.

“Overarching” point of order: Obama “has said” that his vetters vet everyone. And that thinking the vetters should be vetted is absurdly funny, I quess because it leads to a hopeless infinite regress instead of to “transformational” progress. In which case Obama is completely justified to just pull them and everyone else he hires out of his ass, much like he did with his own mind and which explains why everyone up there “looks alike” to racists like you.

I will now respond to your death threat…

He does have pretty crappy minions, Blake. The doogie howser looking tool at Treasury is the most spectacular douchebag to be in a cabinet position ever in history I think.

Said Ali al-Shihri, released from GITMO in 2007, has resurfaced as the deputy leader of Al Qaeda’s Yemeni branch.

President Bush released Said Ali al-Shihri.

Said Ali al-Shihri is now plotting attacks from Yemen.
