White you said? Clearly the weather outside is racist.
Comment by JD on 12/20 @ 11:27 am #
Congrats to the Cowgirls on their big win last night.
Comment by Silver Whistle on 12/20 @ 11:32 am #
We’ve had 3 inches of algore today – hope I can get the car out tomorrow. If only the decline had been better hidden, I wouldn’t be freezing my whotsits off.
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 11:34 am #
Did the Cowgirls put drugs in the Saint’s gatorade? It was like they were drugged for the first half. They finally woke up but unfortunately for them way too little and too late.
But with their tremedous field goal ability, Dallas is a force to be feared!
Comment by Pablo on 12/20 @ 11:37 am #
We’ve got about 15 inches…and counting. Another 7 hours or so of snow expected. High of 23 degrees. I wonder if Al’s in town.
Comment by sdferr on 12/20 @ 11:38 am #
I posted in the Dumbocrats thread without looking for this one, sorry, but: JD, I’ve been thinking your guys will probably end up seeing the Vikes anyhow. Better D’, all in all, don’t you think?
Comment by JD on 12/20 @ 12:05 pm #
Sdferr – I concur. I would rather play the Saints. Adrian is a game-changer every time he touches the ball.
Comment by JD on 12/20 @ 12:15 pm #
Maybe we can get lucky and this one thread will not be derailed from the topic.
Comment by sdferr on 12/20 @ 12:22 pm #
Does anyone have a sense of why the league got so huffy about enforcing its rule barring Ochocinco from wearing his now deceased teammate’s number 15 in his attempt to honor the guy’s memory? I guess I can see barring the number change as a matter of course to prevent a team taking advantage of a confusion of personnel by an opponent; however, in this instance, it hardly seems as though the Chargers would be so foolish as to think that Chris Henry is running around on the football field.
Comment by JD on 12/20 @ 12:25 pm #
Sdferr – The League is hyper-vigilant about enforcing uniform rules. To its detriment.
Comment by sdferr on 12/20 @ 12:31 pm #
“The League is hyper-vigilant [...] To its detriment.”
Thus they make of themselves a laughing stock, so to speak (and not so to speak for the purpose of miscellaneous Joes arriving with invidious comparisons for the purpose of the thread-jacking heretofore eschewed, which forbearance I heartily endorse). *cough*

Our family’s favorite Festivus/Winter Solstice confection:
Buckeyes:
2 sticks butter, softened
3 cups Peter Pan peanut butter, smooth (NOT crunch, NOT Jif. There’s a reason)
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 pounds powdered sugar
4 Tbsp milk
Mix ingredients together in a large bowl until smooth. Roll mixture into balls the size of a buckeye nut (a bit smaller than a ping-pong ball). Chill until firm (we put them on a couple baking sheets and set in the garage overnight).
Melt 1/2 bar Gulf Wax (2 ounces) or similar paraffin and 12 ounces of chocolate chips in a double boiler (I just put a glass bowl on top of a saucepan filled with water and heat that.) Insert a toothpick into a chilled buckeye and dip in the melted chocolate, leaving a small area uncovered to resemble a buckeye nut. Repeat, placing dipped candies onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper or parchment paper. When done, chill buckeyes again. Like revenge, best served cold.
This makes about 6-8 dozen.
These are EXCELLENT during football games.
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 3:16 pm #
sdferr, Peyton threw at least four bricks Thursday, didn’t he?
Comment by JD on 12/20 @ 3:31 pm #
You are thinking about a different game, Joe.
Comment by sdferr on 12/20 @ 3:32 pm #
Not having seen his play Joe, I can’t say. However, even though he went 23/30, if you say he did, I’ll take your word for it, provided JD concurs with your judgment of Mannings’ misses. If, on the other hand, you’ve a mind to call his four touchdown passes “bricks”, well, while that’s a new one on me as a usage of “brick”, I’d be happy to concur right now, since indeed he did.
;-)
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 3:35 pm #
Baked clay, bricks, nues nues as they say in Arabic.
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 3:37 pm #
Meanwhile SEK has some comments on Peyton today:
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 3:38 pm #
And yes I was referring to the TD passes as bricks.
Comment by sdferr on 12/20 @ 3:42 pm #
We’re getting chocolate in our peanut butter here, or Arabic in our Farsi, but whatever, just so long as they’ll make a decent two wythe wall.
Comment by JD on 12/20 @ 3:44 pm #
Sdferr – Actually, I can only recall 1 poorly thrown ball, and it was one where he and the receiver made different reads. The interception hit Dallas Clark square in the hands. He was 13-13 to start, and perfect until after halftime. It was one of his better games.
Comment by sdferr on 12/20 @ 3:50 pm #
I don’t know what to make of that sek dude, but I do think the longer young Mr Josh Freeman plays the game the better QB he’ll become. He’s a yout with all the concomitant inexperience of yout. I’ve seen flashes of genuine brilliance at various moments of his play to date that suggest he’s gonna scare the bejeezus out of a more than a few defenses before his playing days are over.
Comment by JD on 12/20 @ 3:54 pm #
And SEK is a fatuous imbecile.

How does one concentrate on golf when playing with Natalie Gulbis?!?!
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 4:23 pm #
How does one concentrate on golf when playing with Natalie Gulbis?!?!
It probably helps to be a gay male. And since most pros do not see one another in tournament play, she cannot distract those other lady golfers on the LPGA.
Comment by JD on 12/20 @ 4:24 pm #
Emersum perfect ones.
Comment by JD on 12/20 @ 4:26 pm #
I want to watch football, but I cannot take my eyes off of Natalie, who is on ABC, if you are curious.
Comment by Jeff G. on 12/20 @ 4:35 pm #
Watching the Broncos piss away a playoff chance for the second straight season after being 8-5 is GLORIOUS. And to the Raiders. At home. Against their 3rd string QB.
Yippeeeeeeeeee!
Comment by Jeff G. on 12/20 @ 4:37 pm #
Or maybe it’s just that Peyton Manning works harder than Russell.
Comment by Pablo on 12/20 @ 4:46 pm #
Remember how racist it was when Rush Limbaugh said essentially the same thing? Must be because he was banging on the media at the time.
Comment by serr8d on 12/20 @ 4:50 pm #
The Titans are now 7-7. There’s not been another NFL team to ever come back from an 0-6 start and be in a position to speak of playoffs (if only in the infinitesimals), AFAIK.
A bittersweet thing, 7-7, remembering some of those first six games and the what-ifs on which they turned. The opener against Pittsburgh, losing in overtime, after an improbable missed field goal, comes to mind.
Comment by JD on 12/20 @ 4:55 pm #
That just simply could not be the case, Jeff G. It is RACIST to even note that.
Comment by LBascom on 12/20 @ 5:05 pm #
Please Jeff, don’t start booing your own team, I hate when we do that!
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 5:11 pm #
The essentialist
logicintent at play there is obvious: black people are more athletic than white, and white people are smarter than black.Where is Patterico when you need him? Perhaps he is over at SEK’s house watching the game.
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 5:12 pm #
Patterico is apparently not watching the game.
Comment by JD on 12/20 @ 5:20 pm #
I guess it was too much to hope for, sdferr.
Comment by sdferr on 12/20 @ 5:23 pm #
Ah yes, well ……….. I’ma getta fresh glass of tea. Or shall I brew another pot of coffee?
Comment by serr8d on 12/20 @ 5:26 pm #
Ugggh. Not again. I wonder how long my comment there will last.
But, 7-7~! Friday (Christmas) we play San Diego, here at home. I won’t be there; I gave my tickets away. More better things to do Christmas day. I expect them to lose that, then win in Seattle, to finish 8-8.
Comment by sdferr on 12/20 @ 5:32 pm #
Last? It’s gone already. See you in the American attorney thread serr8d.
Comment by sdferr on 12/20 @ 6:17 pm #
Denver seems to be back to the wall at the moment. Will they hold, yielding only a FG?
Comment by Pablo on 12/20 @ 6:25 pm #
Anyone watching Pittsburgh-Green Bay? Ike Taylor just got himself fitted for goat horns.
Comment by Jeff G. on 12/20 @ 6:30 pm #
The Broncos aren’t going to the playoffs. Again. After starting 8-5. Again.
Why? They don’t have an offensive line. And their new coach is too stubborn to alter his approach. Which appears to be, “run it for a 2-yard loss on first down every single time.
You get the ball 1st and goal on the 2 up by 3 with 6 minutes to go, you need to score a TD. Period. Full stop. End of discussion.
Now, end of season.
Comment by JD on 12/20 @ 6:35 pm #
I do not know what Ike Taylor, or Mike Tomlin, were thinking.
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 6:36 pm #
Pablo, Pittsburgh has two minutes to get a TD.
Comment by Pablo on 12/20 @ 6:41 pm #
:43 as we speak. But if they hadn’t blown that onside kick, they probably wouldn’t need a touchdown.
Comment by JD on 12/20 @ 6:45 pm #
Amen, Pablo. That made less sense than the Pats going for it on 4th down. It was an odd call.
Comment by sdferr on 12/20 @ 6:46 pm #
Fill me in on the Taylor dealy? Didn’t see a bit of it.
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 6:47 pm #
Now :13. Reminds me of last night.
Comment by Jeff G. on 12/20 @ 6:47 pm #
Frey wrote another post about me?
Jesus.
Well, you know. We’re both coming across as “madmen.” Cycle of violence and all that. Pox on both our houses. Equal blame to go around. Blahfucking blah.
Okay. Here’s an assignment for anyone who wants to do it, because frankly I can’t stand being online anymore. If somebody wouldn’t mind collecting in a text file the comments and trackbacks from Frey on this site just over the last 3 or 4 days, I’d like to publish it.
Add some context to the whole altering comments thing…
Oh. And point out once again that I’m not allowed to comment over there.
Looking back, I can’t see that I’ve put up anything about Frey since, well, an update to a Thursday post (in response to a comment claiming I hadn’t addressed something). Hell, even my Wednesday evening post was one that Frey DEMANDED!
Time for some of you to take sides, because I’ll tell you this: this is not a situation wherein equal blame can be assigned, beginning with Frey’s belligerence in threads over at LMA to his behavior here the last few evenings.
Do the right thing, people. I’ve been willing to take the blows, but I’m getting tired of people pretending that this isn’t happening, or hoping it might blow over so we can all get back to bashing the MSM or some such.
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 6:48 pm #
Except they got it done. Now don’t blow the EP.
Comment by John Bradley on 12/20 @ 6:48 pm #
WTG Steelers – bitchin’ catch!
Comment by JD on 12/20 @ 6:48 pm #
What a great throw and catch.
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 6:51 pm #
The last post by Patterico is pure madness. WTF is Patterico talking about editting his posts (and not so veiled references to damages)? I can help cut and paste Patterico’s own words (because nk and Patterico love to accuse me of that).
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 6:52 pm #
Wow. The Steelers got it done.
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 7:20 pm #
The madness of Patterico:
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 7:23 pm #
Goldstein is encouraging his commenters to collect the comments I have allegedly made there over the past 3-4 days and send them to him in a text file so he can publish them.
And, they’re told, they need to “take sides.”
Comment by Patterico — 12/20/2009 @ 4:58 pm
Perhaps Stashiu3 has a good idea there?
Comment by Pablo on 12/20 @ 7:25 pm #
Oh, I did that. Fuck spammers, I always say.
Comment by Pablo on 12/20 @ 7:26 pm #
Are you logged in, Joe?
Comment by Joe on 12/20 @ 7:38 pm #
You are going to send Pat over the edge Pablo. You are fucking up quality Frey family time (although his “family” of eight cats probably could care less). You should probably identify what you did if only to prevent Patterico from blaming Jeff and Darleen for altering his actual comments (which are crazy and insane enough). Patterico is presenting it as some mass editting of his comments.
Comment by Pablo on 12/20 @ 7:42 pm #
Patterico is insane. I should tell him the Illuminati did it.
Comment by Pablo on 12/20 @ 7:43 pm #
Let me be clear that the only thing I changed in that comment is the end of the first sentence. The funny is mine. The crazee is his.
Comment by Pablo on 12/20 @ 7:53 pm #
There. That should clear it up.
Comment by McGehee on 12/20 @ 7:56 pm #
Aw, damn. I was hoping it wouldn’t come to this. <snork>
Irony, it’s what’s for dinner.
Comment by Pablo on 12/20 @ 7:57 pm #
I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: “O Lord make my enemies ridiculous.” And God granted it. – Voltaire
Comment by bh on 12/20 @ 7:59 pm #
As best I can tell, Pablo changed one comment on his own thread (accurately, as it turns out) when Frey freaked out and started spamming the blog.
And, the incoherent and endlessly repetitive EricPWJohnson was treated as the incoherent and endlessly repetitive troll he is. As mentioned elsewhere, check out how Palin Steele is treated at AoSHQ or the numerous other examples across the blogosphere. It’s hardly a new idea to make comment jokes from the rantings of the clinically clueless or insane once they make a tedious nuisance of themselves.
If one had to guess, Frey is probably using this most blatant of figleafs to cover the fact that he’s acted like a complete and utter maniac on this blog lately. Think about it. Did someone also change his blog so that it now rants about Jeff full time? Did someone hack the LMA threads where he lost his shit? Yeah right.
Comment by Pablo on 12/20 @ 8:03 pm #
Timlin called an onside kick with just under 4 minutes left. Taylor touched the ball at the 39, which is to say that it hadn’t gone 10 yards. GB’s ball 2 the 39, by rule, which turned into a touchdown very shorty thereafter.
Comment by McGehee on 12/20 @ 8:03 pm #
<ooks innocently into the distance, whistling nonchalantly>
Comment by Pablo on 12/20 @ 8:12 pm #
You’re really a Jew, aren’t you, McGehee?
Comment by sdferr on 12/20 @ 8:12 pm #
Thanks Pablo. And oops, Mr Taylor.
Comment by McGehee on 12/20 @ 8:15 pm #
I’m Scottish, but some say there is at least one common trait.
