Climate Defies Scientists. Climatologists Baffled by Global Warming Time-Out. [JHoward]

Baffled?

That thing about language and meaning Jeff’s been stressing?  Nah.

Global warming appears to have stalled. Climatologists are puzzled as to why average global temperatures have stopped rising over the last 10 years.

Ironically, climate change appears to have stalled in the run-up to the upcoming world summit in the Danish capital, where thousands of politicians, bureaucrats, scientists, business leaders and environmental activists plan to negotiate a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Billions of euros are at stake in the negotiations.

Probably billions of euros are at stake in the negotiations.  Theory wanting?  Get creative.

“We don’t really know why this stagnation is taking place at this point.”

    ba ha ahaa haa aaa..

I know how they can figure this one out. They can take a poll of various “scientists” and come to a consensus.

    It just gets better:

But a few scientists simply refuse to believe the British calculations. “Warming has continued in the last few years,” says Stefan Rahmstorf of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). However, Rahmstorf is more or less alone in his view. Hamburg Max Planck Institute scientist Jochem Marotzke, on the other hand, says: “I hardly know any colleagues who would deny that it hasn’t gotten warmer in recent years.”

IT IS HOTTER. IT IS IT IS IT IS. [stamps foot]

All of them apart from two scientists who were pilloried for their crazy, whacko theory that it was caused by a bacteria. In 2005 they won the Nobel prize. The “consensus” was wrong.”

To the academic mind, authority is everything, and facts are junked when they do not fit theory.”

We’re in danger of becoming Venus, you see. All we have to do is gain 92x more atmospheric mass, turn about 95% of that into CO2, and move our planet closer to the sun so as to about double the amount of energy raining down, and we’re Venus! CAN’T YOU SEE THE DANGER?

  11. Comment by Carin on 11/19 @ 1:56 pm #

God won’t let that happen Slart. Or he will because it’s End Times. And the jews fit in here somehow.

  12. Comment by BJTexs on 11/19 @ 2:05 pm #

Of course the article completely misses the most important point. Ya see, it’s not about whether or not the Earth is warming, cooling or staying the same. It’s about whether or not that warming is caused by increased CO2 in the upper atmosphere and the assumption that the increase is man made.

That’s why the whole seventies cooling trend while CO2 levels were increasing (slightly) kind of doesn’t get talked about. It also shows why significantly impacting the economies of industrialized nations on the basis of climate models is akin to picking stocks by closing one’s eyes and randomly pointing at a list.

Again, these people can’t predict next month’s climate with any certifiable degree of accuracy. Why are they obsessing about 25 and 50 year models? We haven’t even started discussing variances in solar radiation, a field not well understood by most climatologists.

    Bah!

All that I know is that when it snows in Florida for Easter, it’s either irrefutable evidence of Global Warming, or “you don’t know the difference between climate and weather, idiot.” When it is an unseasonably balmy day, that too is conclusive evidence of Global Warming.

Neat how that works for them . . .

Stupid wingnutz! Senator Debbie Stabenow can feel, FEEL CLIMATE CHANGE FROM HER JET!!!

Yet in an interview with the Detroit News Monday, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D., Mich.) – recently appointed to the Senate Energy Committee – made clear that fighting the climate crisis is her top priority.

“Climate change is very real,” she confessed as she embraced cap and trade’s massive tax increase on Michigan industry – at the same time claiming, against all the evidence, that it would not lead to an increase in manufacturing costs or energy prices. “Global warming creates volatility. I feel it when I’m flying. The storms are more volatile. We are paying the price in more hurricanes and tornadoes.”

    Hi all

Well I have my own article on where the heck is global warming? We are asking that here in Boulder where we have broken records the past two days for the coldest days on record. We had 4 inches of snow. The high the last 2 days was below 30F and the normal is 69F, and it smashed the previous records for these days by 10F. The low was about 18F and also a record low, well below the previous record low. This is January weather (see the Rockies baseball playoff game was canceled on saturday and then played last night in below freezing weather).

The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t.

I guess the denial about global warming isn’t affecting the US Navy, as they have to plan for an ice free arctic.

Beyond the sneering use of scare words like “denial” you are unaware that the military literally has hundreds and hundreds of wartime and logistical scenarios from the plausible to the barely bizarre. buy it’s easier to just pluck a random bit of data, sneer ate the commentariat and them poop it onto a thread like it is holy scripture.

Pretty much defines the entire AGW debate right there.

And don’t bother running the “peer reviewed” narrative at us either. There are some serious problems with that meme:

In particular, since 2000, a large number of peer-reviewed climate papers have incorporated data from trees at the Yamal Peninsula in Siberia. This dataset gained favour, curiously superseding a newer and larger data set from nearby. The older Yamal trees indicated pronounced and dramatic uptick in temperatures.

How could this be? Scientists have ensured much of the measurement data used in the reconstructions remains a secret – failing to fulfill procedures to archive the raw data. Without the raw data, other scientists could not reproduce the results. The most prestigious peer reviewed journals, including Nature and Science, were reluctant to demand the data from contributors. Until now, that is.

At the insistence of editors of the Royal Society’s Philosophical Transactions B the data has leaked into the open – and Yamal’s mystery is no more.

From this we know that the Yamal data set uses just 12 trees from a larger set to produce its dramatic recent trend. Yet many more were cored, and a larger data set (of 34) from the vicinity shows no dramatic recent warming, and warmer temperatures in the middle ages.

But hey! Al Gore’s got millions and millions of degrees of molten rock to create geothermal energy for everyone! THE NARRATIVE MARCHES ON, TRAMP TRAMP!

I thought the Yamal proxies were lake sediments. Which, interestingly, also make damned fine thermometers, if you remember not to regress on the data inverted, which they did.

Back in the 30’s, we had a warplan to invade Canada. That doesn’t make Canadian Bacon a good movie.

Andrew – Excellent point. It is not a good movie. It is a great movie. Methinks JTDW is a mental midget. I wonder if the Navy has contingency plans for when the Chinese invade by way of shipping containers, or riding over on the backs of sharks WITH LAZERS !!!!!

Right, that’s their job. It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that the Pentagon has a contingency plan for invading the Vatican. Not a high-priority plan, mind you, but at least some preliminary spadework similar to “we’d cut off the power and water here and here, then send the tanks in here and here”.

Oh, the upside-down data was the Tiljander proxies. There’s so many bones of contention there that we could all keep our rose gardens beautiful for decades, so much bone meal would there be.

Its a very scary world when suckers like JD are duped beyond help into believing the world is flat and that man can alter the enormity of the Earth’s atmosphere.

Such morons will EVENTUALLY know the truth but until then we must endure these cretins.
