Golf clap to Jeff Fecke vis a vis Carrie Prejean and the naughty tapes she made at age 17 for her boyfriend.
Now, yes, Prejean has been involved in moralizing. And here’s where I’m supposed to say that she has this coming, having the temerity to be a sexual being while criticizing others for their sexuality. But you know what? I’m having trouble believing that. Because while Prejean’s opinions on same-sex marriage may be wrong, it doesn’t therefore follow that it’s okay for someone she trusted to break that trust by sharing private videos with the public. Indeed, on the moral spectrum, I’m having trouble seeing why Prejean should be embarrassed by the sex tape, and a whole lot of reason to think that her ex-boyfriend is a major league asshole who women should avoid like the plague. Men too, for that matter.
Of course, Feckeless had to begin his column by slamming Prejean as “anti-gay” for the FELONY CRIME of believing men and women aren’t fungible, therefore marriage should remain as it is and a different set of law should cover same-sex relationships. But hey, where one challenges Leftist dogma, one should expect indecent ad homenims.
However, Feckeless actually gets it right in that this little sex-play between intimates was never to be public and the real scum-bag in this kerfuffle is the un-named ex-asshole-boyfriend [emphasis on boy because a man doesn't engage in this kind of betrayal]
And just because we like to put the fault back on the Carrie Prejeans of the world for sending these tapes in the first place, the fact is that their privacy is being violated, while the ex-boyfriend in question is lauded for said violation. A moment’s foolishness in the name of lust or love is understandable; a willful betrayal of trust in the name of lulz or cash is reprehensible.
What “scandalizes” the Leftcult is that they hold cartoon characterizations of the Dreaded Conservative(tm) in their head; which, of couse, bears little resemblence to real-life conservatives. Hence, when conservatives act contrary to Leftist cartoons it is cause of all manner of tittering and wee-weeing.
Now, Carrie Prejean is a sweet, young thing who found herself in the middle of a media buzzsaw because she dared to be un-PC at a pageant. Personally, I don’t find her anymore intellectually engaging or rigorous than any half-dozen random bloggers at Feministing, or Amanda Marcotte for that matter, but she’s young and used to getting attention for her looks, so I’ll make allowances for her trying to ride her 15 minutes of notoriety. Let’s see how she’s matured in five years.
However, let me clear a few things up where non-left women and sex are concerned.
We like love sex. Really. There is a reason non-leftists are more satisfied with their love lives than Leftists — there are those that talk about it, then there are those who do it.
We have bright lines between public and private, between exclusive and promiscuous, between gluttony and discriminating.
Don’t ever think because a non-leftist discusses appropriateness that somehow translates into prohibition. Au contraire, who has the better dining experience — the discerning person who tries new experiences from a level of finding unique quality or the person who just wants to quell hunger pangs with whatever food-type substance, junk or not, is close at hand?
Non-leftists are adventerous, thrill-seeking, experimental and free in sexual matters. We just do them in trusted relationships and in private.
“Moralizing” on behavior doesn’t mean sexless, anymore than telling someone to use the bathroom rather than taking a whiz on a public street means we don’t pee.
There’s a reason, too, many of us don’t seek public office. Who knows if some of our ex-es are as scummy as Prejeans?

You’ve got a lot going for your argument there Abe, no fooling. Truth is though, “this girl should be a nobody” seems to me still a weaker statement of what’s what than it could be.
Even granting that in the public discourse she is taken to be a somebody or could be and yet might be, along with god only knows how many others just like her — the Paris Hilton’s and Perez Hilton’s, the panoply of movie stars and starlettes, the professional athletes up and down the country, the radio and tv personalities everyone knows at a glance — she wouldn’t be, nor are the others, were the attention of the “somebody takers” to turn to the substance underlying these people, which I believe they would find simply isn’t there most of the time. There are exceptions to this of course. But the exceptions tend to be smart enough to hide themselves.

Yes! I landed a 1-year contract beginning on Monday. Found out a month ago. Unemployment ran out two weeks ago, but they would have extended me if I didn’t find a job.
I had been looking since April, so I got to partake in the unemployment like everyone else, and I prolly will in another year. In the meantime, I’m restocking my soup cans, buying precious metals, and getting my house insulated. Obama will have us well in the ditch in a year, you wait and see.

Carrie Prejean is not a hypocrite, she is stupid. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
She brought a law suit against the California pagent officials knowing she had made those tapes. Why? The pagent officials got the tapes, showed one of them to her and her mom, they technically violated the pagent rules, and used them to leverage a very favorable settlement.
That TMZ and others can then play off that civil legal proceeding gives them the cover to exploit tapes and slam Prejean for her views on marriage (which as we know are no different than Barack Obama’s) (even if they cannot show the actual tapes because she is underage and giving yourself a hand so to speak is overtly sexual).
I think Perez Hilton is a piece of dog shit. Harvey Levin and TMZ just love taking advantage of all of this and given Harvey’s gay he is going to have no problems going after Prejean. But Prejean is helping these bastards by lobbing them softballs.

I’ve read the South Beach book and, probably, in many ways I am following many of the recommendations.
I eat almost no processed food. Hubby and I cook from scratch. Especially during the week I eat lots of raw veggies, salad and lunch protein will be kidney or garbanzo beens as a additive to salad (olive oil and balsamic vinegar).
I figure if I’m really good during the week, going out to eat on Fri or Sat night is a treat.
Last night it was Japanese. I adore sushi. And hot sake.

Caveats. We’d prefer marriage to not marriage. In marriage, nothing is really forbidden if both parties agree. Second, obviously, there are some extremely prudish christians. I find the most outspoken prudes also tend to be the ones who are alone or unhappy in their relationship. Its more a human emotion than a christian one. christians are still flawed humans. We have the same failings, temptations as anyone else.
I’m a christian and libertarian. With the exception of gay marriage (which has greater implication than the leftist groupthink that all christians “hate’ gays), I could care less what any consenting adult does in the context of their relationship. My beliefs tell me they will answer to God, just as I will for what I’ve done. And what I’ve done in the past has not always been pretty, moral or whatever.
My feelings on Prejean is similar to many of you - her answer was good but she let herself be exploited and she did it for money. The lawsuit, the book, all of those things were unnecessary, imho.

I’ve read the South Beach book and, probably, in many ways I am following many of the recommendations.
It’s funny, ’cause I got into an “argument” with a guy a few weeks back who insisted he didn’t go for “diets” and he researched the info himself and came up with his own dealo.
He basically was doing South Beach, except it was TOTALLY DIFFERENT because he didn’t actually buy the book.
Lean meats. Good carbs, and sparingly. Avoid high sugar fruit. Avoid sugar. Avoid cheese and creams and milks. EAt good yogurt.
There. I’ve saved everyone $12.
There is a two week strict dealo, which is harder. But, honestly you could just eat right, and avoid that torture, but the extra weight loss on the front end sure does motivate you.

I think same sex partners have shot themselves in the foot by claiming christians (and whomever) hate gays if they are against gay marriage. If gays would have stuck to civil unions, I suspect they’d be making greater headway. Unfortunately, while many gays really do simply want to be together in a recognized union, many more want to undermine heterosexuals and traditional marriage. Seriously, as a lawyer, if the federal government sanctions gay marriages, churches of every sect will be wide open to discrimination lawsuits for refusing to marry homosexual couples. Unfortunately, this is what I believe many stringent gay marriage advocates really want- a chance to “legally” attack a religion which has been admittedly hostile to their lifestyle choices.

well hf, while i understand that, would caving on gay marriage solve any of the countries problems ? My thought is no. There are definately bigger problems but at the same time, I don’t think this is the time to jettison all our principles. Though I definately think in light of the current crisis, its a close call. I’m pro-life but willing to bend somewhat on abortion, because its already the law of the land. If you permit government sanctioned gay marriage, those people who are strongly against it won’t ever get it back.

I just think we can let them call it gay marriage while knowing in our hearts it’s a different thing, Matt. Society will evolve its disparate ways of treating gay and straight marriage or it won’t, but the goddamn dirty socialist government will have precious little to do with it ultimately.
At the end of the day the primary purpose of gay marriage is to piss people off. Legalized gay marriage is useless to the dirty socialists that are pushing it. Once it’s legal what nurtures it as an institution? Nothing. Absolutely fucking nothing. The idea that we can stop people from creating a thing called gay marriage is sort of… control freakish. There were gay marriages long before it was legally recognized anywhere. I remember cause it was on the tv.
The point is, there’s precious little to suggest that gay marriage isn’t inevitable. It’s come damn far damn fast and the kids are on board with it and it’s a powerful dirty socialist recruiting tool. Since racism is receding they need this bad as a way of maintaining the R’s image of hatey nazis, and it’s really an a lot effective tool for them.
If you want static marriage you need a Plan and as far as I can tell that plan would need to involve the aggressive and pro-active institution of civil union law. The R party so far has dropped the ball on that. Mostly cause they like the game of riding gay marriage ballot measure coattails. They’re kind of a bunch of losers I think.

Bob, let me clarify, I am sure Carrie Prejean has an above average IQ (beyond having great looks, you have to be fairly bright to get to a finalist position in a competitive beauty pagent). But she was dumb to make those tapes (word is there are half a dozen or so) and then open herself up for all of this by suing the pagent.
Because Perez Hilton acted like a pigdick he is and made her famous, she was damaged exactly how? The lawsuit, through the fact these tapes became known in discovery, have damaged her far more than that toadcrap Perez Hilton ever did.
Any chance of privacy went out the window when Carrie Prejean opened the door to discovery with the lawsuit. My guess is her attorney went over this with her in advance and Carrie said she had nothing to hide…opps. I guess not.

There is nothing magical about this, Churches are exempt on income tax but states and local jurisdictions can charge them property taxes if they wish. Typically they do not, nor do they charge other non profits. Typically I would let non profits slide, but if it is being abused (based on some objective basis) then go ahead and charge them.

I see it more as the untaxed churches receiving a subsidy. I don’t see why they should be subsidized and be disconnected from the economic realities of their communities. The biggest difference — both on the surface and in the results of brain imaging — lay in the readiness or ease of achieving orgasm in men and the relative difficulty in women. So they found in the brain that centers of situational awareness, say preparedness to fend off attack by critter or human opponent are relatively more “switched on” in men during orgasm and utterly “switched off” in women during orgasm. From which they reasoned that it made sense that women would approach that state somewhat more cautiously, so to speak, because of the vulnerability to which they are exposed while in the throes. It comes down to the intensity of focus in the jolting: women — more intense, men — less intense.

Interesting. Now, as a woman I can’t speak for whether or not a man’s orgasm is more/less intense than mine. But the differences in orgasms is apparent (and the subject of lots of fun discussion with husband).
Women have all manner of orgasms and they can vary even within the same instance of sex — from singular intense, to series of multiples from roller coaster to skipping rocks across a pond.
This is another reason why women in long-term, loving committed relationships have the best sex. It takes a while and some communication for partners to learn each other’s rhythms. Women, especially, don’t relax without trust so the “joys” of quicky, anonymous sex is more the stuff of fiction, not reality.

Also, women in love and with a trusted partner feel free to explore all aspects of their sexual being - so engaging in private behavior that both agree on, including pictures, role-playing or video, is not either hypocritical or sleazy.
The Left’s continued insistence on blurring the line between public and private behavior is tactical in attempting to marginalize and demonize those that politically disagree with them.

IMHO, it may have something to do with what you comment about the cost of egg and seed. It may have to do with increasing the chances for pregnancy.
A very intense orgasm is like taking shot of strong alcohol — we “glow”, we are warm and relaxed and are more apt to just want to lay there and cuddle and NOT immediately jump up and go about other chores.
Remaining horizontal for a prolonged period after coitus will increase odds of sperm meeting egg.

I’d be interested to see geographically how the prevalence of liberal political leanings correlates with the prevalence of absent baby daddies. Because I’m guessing that those men that understand a woman’s needs and aren’t interested in just pleasing themselves knock women up and bail out on them at a much higher rate in say Chicago than in Omaha.
