Last night I quoted from the usual snicker-worthy rantings from silly bint Mandy. Elsewheres in her thoughtless piece of why white men only voted against Obama because of teh racism she sniffed, of course, it was about teh gheys, too. “Gays are a threat to traditional gender roles, as well!” she posits.
They are? 3% of the population is a “threat”? And here I thought “gay” was just a description that one’s object of sexual attraction was the same sex.
So, either gays are just like everyone else (good or bad, right or left, talented or schlubs) with that one difference, or are they some exotic, alien species that needs separate and celebrated parades, university studies, bodies of literature, law and, especially, politics.
Questioning the latter has nothing do with the former.

Comment this morning from Reynolds about a lesbian mayor elected in Texas while the gay marriage thing got shot down in Maine. Its simple. Social conservatives, on the whole, do not hate gays, do not feel gays should be discriminated against, believe in equal opportunity for gays in the workplace, etc. Its simply that marriage, for most folks, is between a man and a woman. If gays would accept this premise and move on and spend gay marriage energy and money on trying to get civil unions at state levels, they’d be spending their time better.

David Corn compares Palin support for Hoffman to Zombieland or some other nonsense. Corn is of course completely missing the point–Dede Scozzafava was no moderate. Owens is a moderate. Dede Scozzafava is left of the Democrat Owens, so it is not all that surprising she supported him after conservatives “outed her” so to speak.
Predictably for anything anti Palin, Andrew Sullivan liked Corn’s analysis. Well, pigeons like picking corn out of crap, but that does not make it good to eat.
And ultimately those princes of Maine, those kings of New England, voted to defeat gay marriage, following the example of President Barack Obama–who is and supposedly remains against gay marriage (until of course it is politically in his favor to support it). That my friends is called character.

Hey, people who use the term “Gaping Hatchet Wounds” to refer to female genitalia probably shouldn’t pretend they’re part of polite society. Well, that and when they have that parade without their pants. I think the point of the whole parade is to be without pants, or something pants-less. WHERE ARE THEIR PANTS? HOLY CRAP! HOW IS THAT NORMAL! WHY SHOULD THESE PEOPLE BE ELIGIBLE TO ADOPT ANYTHING? I DON’T TRUST THEM WITH PETS!
People without pants in public get locked up, for a reason, because it means they’re crazy. Didn’t these people have grandparents to teach them right from wrong, and crazy from non-crazy?
Mind you, if you’re not a “no-pants-in-public” gay person, I couldn’t care less if you’re gay. I’ll buy you a beer, maybe even let you hit on me for a while, if you’re subtle and good at it. That makes you normal. It’s those freaky weirdos that demand attention merely because they’re gay that give everybody the creeps.
You want marriage laws passed that support gays? Purge the freaks and weirdos. Prove you’re normal, and that your matrimony will be a boon to society, instead of just a couple of spoiled freaks that want to pretend they’re normal. That will get you what you want. The straights aren’t holding you back… you are.

I see, the only opinions that count are those of a noble “minority,” by virtue of being less in number than those with the opposing point of view. Neat how that works. You really can’t counter this argument - mostly because you need to avoid addressing how homosexuals aren’t all decendents of immigrants from the Grand Duchy of Fagonia. Homosexuals aren’t a distinct kind of people with a discrete homosexual identity.
I don’t think you know what fungible means.

It’s not really “the only opinion that counts.” It’s like, what they’re asking for. Sure the anti-gay opinion counts: we’ve just seen the effect of that in Maine. What makes Darleen’s argument so warm and fuzzy is that it’s in fact the opposite of what you just said to me. It is the complete ignorance of what the gay folks want. It is as if the gay folk’s demands for equality are precisely what doesn’t count. As if their demands can just be defined away and they’ll be satisfied.
Comment by SBP on 11/4 @ 9:28 pm #
Of course, it COULD be that you don’t give any more of a shit about gay people than you do about black people

What are you going to do, vote for the Republican next time?
He’s buttsurfing you, girlfriend.
How’s that Gitmo closure coming along? Troops still in Iraq and Afghanistan? Gay marriage we’ve been discussing. Dope legalized yet? Any of the rest of the “progressive” agenda enacted yet?

Civil unions for everybody, say I. Whether you want to call it a marriage is up to you and your church (if any), but that shouldn’t have any impact in the secular area whatsoever.

Well, I don’t see an awful lot of asking. I see thumbs in ears and foot stomping, and lots of calling of names, and a good bit of nefarious judicial forum shopping. If they’d just ask nicely and politely, I’d say ‘no’ with a smile and we could all get on with other things.
I suppose the rub is that many don’t see these demands as demands for equality. They’re demanding that lots of people pretend along with them and agree that the sky is green and that 2 + 2 = 5. It’s very Stalin-ey, I find. The “persuasion of power” if you will.
Comment by Darleen on 11/4 @ 9:39 pm #

So answer mine. Why are you here and not going after your president? You do know his stated position on the matter?

Don’t tell me, meya, that you’re of the mindset that it is the evil Xtianist white mormon devil, all the while ignoring the demographics of the opposition? Imagine my surprise.

“No. In the beginning marriage was an archaic Patriarchal institution for ownership of women. Are you saying marriage is different for gays?”
If you explain to me how gay marriage is “patriarchical” or for the “ownership of women” then I’d be able to address these problems for gay marriage. Otherwise I’m afraid I don’t see how they apply. Is this a flaw of gay marriage or a feature?
“I think you can review fifty years of feminist orthodoxy on your own, meya.”
I’m not familiar with feminist orthodoxy, be it contemporary or from 50 years ago, that argues that gay marriage is “patriarchical” or “inflicted” on gay people. I have never read any, but I suspect that literature on this topic would actually say the opposite.
“So answer mine. Why are you here and not going after your president? You do know his stated position on the matter?”
You want me to go leave comments on his blog? Sure I’d like all our politicians, not just our president, to be in favor of gay marriage.

No need to click the link, every Yankee knows the tale.
Texas stabbed the people who liberated them in the back and turned traitor state.
That’s a stain that will never come out.

Gay marriage whatever. It was an issue awhile ago kind of but that was before our little country was taken into the bushes by the dirty socialists and had unspeakable things done to it to where it shakes a lot and won’t make eye contact. We have bigger fish to fry now. Just that mandatory sick pay crap alone is gonna put so many people put of work. That’s one of those let’s not let the swine flu “crisis” go to waste even if the dirty socialist media has to make it up things.

Is it different from your typical hetero marriage? Are not all marriages equal?

Son, I don’t so much blame you as I blame your parents and every teacher of history you have ever had. You have been ill served. To put the term ‘Yankee” with “Alamo” shows an absolute ignorance of history.
Do you do this for fun or are you really this stupid?

Ghey marriages are actually superior, because they’re not about ownership of women. You’ll be lucky if the gheys allow you to get married some day.

That was a silly thing to say about Texas. Texas our Texas all hail the mighty state I think.

Did the wingnuts erase Texas joining the Confederacy from those freakish “textbooks” you force on your kids?
Now that takes cojones!

In any case, the fact remains that the people here have no power to legalize gay marriage.
Plastic Jesus, Cryptkeeper, and Granny Botox do.
I mean, we all know that SFAG and NippleNut are dumber than a special needs King Charles Spaniel, but how dumb is this?
It’s like trying to get the city council to pass an ordinance against nuclear proliferation.
Oh, right: they do that too.
The one thing that might save us from these fascist fanbois and fangrrrlz is that they’re just so damned stupid and incompetent.
“Hey, we got Berkeley, California to declare itself a nuclear-free zone!”

You brought up the Alamo, snowy. Do your “freakish” textbooks tell you the difference between 1836 and 1861?
Once again you have beclowned yourself. You should probably stop now. But you won’t.

As much as I dislike the Yankees, I dislike everything Philadelphia more. Can’t help it. I’m a Cowboys fan. Rumor has it that we actually have an MLB team here. I can’t verify that, however.

The virus also has been confirmed in two ferrets — one in Oregon and the other in Nebraska — but they died.
who investigates ferret deaths? THey don;t live all that long really. That’s so odd. This must be the tip of the dead ferret iceberg you’d have to think.
