Evening video break…(The Sanity Inspector)

We haven’t had one of these in a while.  I think it might be good to lighten the mood.  Sorry, but I’ve not yet learned how to make the embed magic happen.

Rock’s greatest flamenco guitarist.

A guitar god summit.

Pile on.

Just think how much fun it was to hang with these guys when they were younger, getting high and having groupies falling all over them!

Okay, okay, I know you are not suppose to say that. But I bet there were some fun times.

    “Rock’s greatest flamenco guitarist.”

That fucking flamingo plays a helluva guitar!

Plus, he looks like Pete Townsend.

Also, it’s wrong that Jeff Healey’s friends let him walk around with a mullet.

We used to catch Danny Gatton playing in a small club uptown in DC on Connecticut avenue, called “Club Soda”…

He was a great musician, who I have some fond memories of…

Not a music video. “Is this still America?”, General Patton as spoken by Mark Levin, on Obonga’s first 100 days.

  12. Comment by sdferr on 10/25 @ 9:59 pm #

I used to spend night after night in Club Soda Bob. It was mere doors down from my ordinary haunt, Poor Roberts Pub.

  13. Comment by Seth on 10/25 @ 10:04 pm #

I enjoy this one. The pouty, sultry voice…the hint of menace in the lyrics. Love the guitar sound (hard to classify..surf?). Goodnight moon.

Hippies all to be sure, but I heard CSN’s “Southern Cross” the other day for the first time since a college spring break in Key West.

    Great guitar song.

I used to visit a lot on leave, mostly because I had family there. And I was transferred there in ‘96 after I transferred to NAVSEA.

Sweet, Danny Gatton. I miss Rory Gallagher – what he could do to a Strat made my hair stand on end. God rest him.

  22. Comment by B Moe on 10/26 @ 4:41 am #

Nice, SW, I hadn’t found that clip yet. I love to turn young guitar players on to Rory, it is ridiculous how unknown he is in the States.

  23. Comment by Silver Whistle on 10/26 @ 4:59 am #

    B Moe,

I saw him in Guildford, England on the 10th anniversary of Jimi’s death (must have been Sept. 1980!), and he played an extended medley of Hendrix. Just the nicest guy you could imagine, and so completely immersed in American music with the most incredible soul for the blues. Taste’s On The Boards, the self-titled Rory Gallagher, and Calling Card are my fave studio lps, but Live In Europe & Irish Tour capture him at his live best – flannel shirt, sleeves rolled up, old jeans, sweating like a pig, and that battered Strat belting out (much like you on those Youtube clips!). A real guitar hero.

The Beeb did a special on him some years ago, and everyone from Brian May to Slash were on saying what an incredibly decent bloke he was, oh and by the way could he play like no-one else. You are on a good mission there, brother; keep spreading the word.

  24. Comment by Carin on 10/26 @ 7:03 am #

Sorry I missed a music thread last night. I could have linked a bunch of Tool videos … heh.

But it’s Monday morning, and back to the serious stuff. Did you folks hear the UN is investigating us? It appears “adequate and affordable” housing is a human right. Any guesses as to what conclusions they are going to reach?

  25. Comment by BJTexs on 10/26 @ 7:15 am #

Oh, man, you guys have me awash in wonderful memories and all of you have managed to pick many of my favorite guitarists.

Danny Gatton had so many licks that he could have given away half of them and still had more than almost any other guitarist.

Jeff Beck is 65 years old and he’s still innovating on guitar, having lost none of his skills and, surprisingly, most of his transcendent arrogance.

You’re right, BMoe, Rory Gallagher was and is one of the most unappreciated guitarists to have ever crossed rock and blues. IMHO, the other one was Roy Buchanan.

The highlight of my concert going career was The Who, 1975, in Philly, the last stop on their US tour. Rolling Stone wrote it up. It was three and one half hours of phenomenal which ended with them trashing just about every piece of equipment on stage.

Second place? Double ticket, 1976. the Jeff Beck Group and the original Maravishnu Orchestra 2 hours each.

    I’m swoonin’ here!

Trolls? This is a perfect thread to jump in on if you really wanted to earn a modicum of respect. Everybody loves a good tune, and it’s really easy to be non-partisan about it. Don’t be shy, tell us what you think.

Myself, I have some Paul Galbraith on the ipod that makes me drop my jaw. He plays an eight-string classical in well-tempered tuning, and does Bach sonatas and partitas. And if you like that “newgrass” stuff, Nickel Creek and Chris Thile on mandolin are good.

Bur for unwinding and letting my hair down, I still love me some Stevie Ray.

The problem with Van Halen, JD, is that, while Eddie is a technically brilliant guitarist, they never moved past their status as the worlds greatest bar band.

Eddie is pretty much the epitome of the ten thousand note marching guitar soldiers.

Darth: Paul Galbraith is a superb and innovative classical guitarist.

And god knows there’s nothing worse than a misspelled tattoo! :P

Excellent, exceLLENT music, all! Has anyone been following the Canon Rock scene? Dozens of guitarists — and would be guitarists — all playing a rock version of Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D. Some are truly terrible, some are very good, and a few are phenomenal. Like this one.
