Although as a conservative tax payer, I am starting to feel like a victim.

You sure it’s not racist to link this?

Is that guy in the purple pimp suit supposed to be Reagan?
Comment by RTO Trainer on 10/25 @ 12:01 pm #
SBP, that’s James O’Keefe.

Maybe we should claim victim status, Joe. Then we can finagle us some tax credits.

Brilliant.

And do you know what the mildly creepy thing is? It actually looks like a very nice neighborhood – green grass, blue sky, palm trees and rather nicely-maintained small bungalows with lawns in front. The cars on the street and parked in the drives are recent-model and in good repair … ah, SoCal – they do ‘blighted neighborhoods” so differently there, don’t they?

Ah! He looks a little bit like a young Reagan in that.

So true, that street actually looks remarkably like the street where I lived for 10 years in Long Beach.

“South Central” has gained notoriety, especially in the 1980’s, due to the huge increase of gang violence. But the area, historically, encompasses working class AND rich areas. Up until the 1950’s it was pretty much the only area that blacks were allowed to own property in Los Angeles. Owners still keep the homes nice, even if it is a neighborhood where if one ventures outside after dark one risks their very life.

Which I suspect would flatter him immensely. :-)

Fodder for Hollywood ridicule, that. Think Edward Suburbs Hands.
They’re gonna run out of negative stereotypes.

Oh, I knew about all that, Darleen – I grew up in LA. Once, as a college student, in a car with three other college students, on the way out to the summer camp in Yucaipa where we all had summer jobs as camp counselors, the driver of the car missed an exit on the interchange, and took the next exit to try and get back to where we were going … and we realized with horror that we (all four of us fairly devout Lutherans of decided pallor) were in Watts! OMG – the freakout was massive! We were in the ghetto! The major bad ‘hood! Violence and gangs and lawlessness, oh my! Which was actually very tidy, scrubbed, and well-kept, with lawns and palm trees and bungalows. I had personally seen slums on the outskirts of Barcelona, and really awful, grungy row-house enclaves in Belfast, by then … so having the fabled Watts ghetto look so very … well, normal was a bit of a surprise.

Awesome! Life is not fair, deal with it. You have one right that no one can take from you, and that is the right to try. Don’t let it go to waste and dont’ waste it being a victicrat.

California doesn’t even know how to do ghettos correctly. Come to Detroit. I’ll give everyone a tour.
BYOG.

Used to vist family about twice a month in Watts. I’ve walked through Lynwood at 2:00 AM with a bike that had a flat tire to get home to my place in Southgate. rode my bike through Compton dozens of times, once to return someones wallet I found in the street. The usual interaction with the locals is a “hi” or a “have a nice day” or “God bless”. Southern California definitely doesn’t know how to do scary neighborhoods.

I grew up in South Central LA and live there now. The scene looks almost as though it was filmed on my block.

My mom grew up in Leimert Park, right on 4th Avenue, went to Dorsey High. My grandparents eventually moved to Glendale but I went with them often during the 60’s to visit their best friends who still lived there. The area has never lost its charm.
