It’s ironic that a peace prize highlights the hatred that is destroying the American Right.

  2. Comment by Darleen on 10/10 @ 10:47 am #

Hatred? Oh snotty, Barry’s acceptance of a prize he admits he doesn’t deserve is Comedy GOLD!! The photoshops are rolling in and this is may surpass Lewinsky/cigar jokes!

  4. Comment by cranky-d on 10/10 @ 10:51 am #

I tried to comment and it apparently did not show up. All it said was, “Perfect!”

BTW, I turned off the hammer to see which jackhole troll had showed up, and of course it was snotcone.

There is no hatred, fool. You hated Bush, of course, but I don’t hate Obama. I simply think that his vision for America is wrong, and will oppose it as much as I can. That is not hate.

What you see in that photoshop is called “making fun of people.” It makes fun of the Obama worshippers who have lead us to this point, and it makes fun of Obama himself for being such a narcissistic fool.

  5. Comment by Joe on 10/10 @ 10:52 am #

Snowcone (or thor, or whoever you are), my liberal friends who loves almost everything Obama are embarassed by this and think it was a mistake for him not to politely turn down the award.

“There is no hatred, fool. You hated Bush, of course, but I don’t hate Obama. I simply think that his vision for America is wrong, and will oppose it as much as I can. That is not hate.”

cranky-d, your truthful and fulsome explanation has been repeated here by many ad nauseam yet makes no dent on the assertion monkey whatsoever. Which is I guess, after all, the origin of SBP’s trollhammer in the first place.

  7. Comment by cranky-d on 10/10 @ 11:10 am #

Yeah, I know sdferr. That’s why I normally leave trollhammer on. However, it was thor who really inspired SBP to write it, I think. It makes life in a truly open comment section much easier.

  8. Comment by sdferr on 10/10 @ 11:13 am #

As to the history you are perfectly correct cranky-d though as to the idea underlying the need it looks like the same deal to me.

  9. Comment by McGehee on 10/10 @ 11:18 am #

Why do proggs hate freedom of thought?

    [...]

Don’t you just love rhetorical questions?

  10. Comment by cranky-d on 10/10 @ 11:20 am #

If one were to read your two sentences in #6 closely, as I did, one might see that you mention “the assertion monkey” in the first sentence, clearly a reference to a singular troll (and clearly a reference to snotcone, the troll in question) rather than the trolls in the aggregate. The second sentence would then seem to mean that TrollHammer was written to remove said singular troll’s droppings from further view.

However, I agree that while a singular troll did inspire the writing of said cleansing tool, the underlying need remains even after the departure of said singular troll.

  11. Comment by cranky-d on 10/10 @ 11:22 am #

Note that in paragraph two, I changed my referent as to which singular troll I was discussing. My apologies.

  12. Comment by Snowcone on 10/10 @ 11:25 am #

Barry’s acceptance of a prize he admits he doesn’t deserve is Comedy GOLD

Says the folks who think Sarah Palin is a viable presidential candidate.

About a year to the next election.

Y’all ever gonna do anything besides wee-wee yourselves every time Obama has a triumph?

  13. Comment by sdferr on 10/10 @ 11:28 am #

Though it’s a decidedly minor point cranky-d, over time I’ve referred to more than a few trolls as “assertion monkey” simply because they are. No restriction of identity is wanted where similitude goes.

  14. Comment by SBP on 10/10 @ 11:30 am #

    Y’all ever gonna do anything

Maybe you should try asking Plastic Jesus that question,NippleNut.

  15. Comment by Darleen on 10/10 @ 11:31 am #

    snotty

when Obama has a “triumph” let me know. And if it is actually in AMERICA’s interest, I’ll applaud it.

Just as I applaud that he hasn’t closed Gitmo nor dismantled the Patriot Act provisions that helped foil Islamist attacks on America. Whether it was his tendency to dither or actually recognizing the value of Bush Admin policies I still say “THANK YOU, MR. PRESIDENT” on those issues.

I recognize, too, your fear of Palin. So much so you channel Barry’s un-teleprompter baby talk.

  16. Comment by cranky-d on 10/10 @ 11:33 am #

I concede that indeed many trolls may have been referred to as “assertion monkey,” in this case it was “the assertion monkey” which apparently refers to a particular member of the set of assertion monkeys, in this case snowblow. The addition of an “s” to pluralize the referent might make the intended meaning clearer.

  17. Comment by cranky-d on 10/10 @ 11:34 am #

All in good fun, of course, sdferr.

  18. Comment by sdferr on 10/10 @ 11:37 am #

“All in good fun, of course…”

Absolutely and without question, cranky-d, though sticking up for the grammatical possibilities, I still think “the” can be used generically, even in the absence of a pluralizing “s”. Heh.

when Obama has a “triumph” let me know.

Winning a Nobel prize is a triumph, Darleen.

Having been raised right, Obama graciously said he didn’t deserve it.

And the folks who were also raised right politely congratulated him on his win, whether they thought he deserved it or not.

  22. Comment by Darleen on 10/10 @ 12:05 pm #

Having been raised right, Obama graciously said he didn’t deserve it

and then belies his “graciousness” by accepting it anyway…including a plan to make a star turn on the runway in Oslo.

Shorter Obama: It IS always about me!

  23. Comment by stuiec on 10/10 @ 12:07 pm #

One would have thought that President Obama might have said something non-self-referential, as in, “I must respectfully decline this award because it clearly should go to one of the many other nominees who have already accomplished so much toward the betterment of humankind.”

    But then one wakes up.

  24. Comment by geoffb on 10/10 @ 12:08 pm #

    Darleen,

  28. Comment by cranky-d on 10/10 @ 12:17 pm #

Winning a Nobel prize in physics is a triumph worthy of recognition. Winning a Nobel Peace Prize is more like the leavings of Triumph, the insult-comic dog. Arafat has one. Carter has one. Al Gore has one. Enough said, I think.

Some who have won the NPP were worthy of the original intent of the award. O! is not, because he has done nothing to deserve it.

And as an example of the single-ply Obama uses, actual human beings. For peace.

  34. Comment by Wm T Sherman on 10/10 @ 1:08 pm #

Say, in keeping with Pageant tradition, isn’t it about time for a portfolio of ill-advised nude photographs to surface?

  35. Comment by stuiec on 10/10 @ 1:09 pm #

Since the Nobel Committee doesn’t officially divulge nominations for fifty years after the award year, we don’t know the full list of nominees. But a few of the names have surfaced, including Afghan human rights activist Sima Samar, expatriate Uighur peace activist Rebiya Kadeer, Chinese dissident Hu Jia, and Prime Minister of Zimbabwe Morgan Tsvangirai.

A truly self-aware and gracious Barack Obama would have declined the Peace Prize and highlighted the actual accomplishments of these and other nominees who are far more deserving. But what can you expect from a guy who won’t even let the Dalai Lama come to the White House because he’s more interested in paying political favors to the Chinese?

  36. Comment by Salt Lick on 10/10 @ 1:12 pm #

And the folks who were also raised right politely congratulated him on his win, whether they thought he deserved it or not.

Folks who were raised right do not congratulate a man who’s been given a $1.4 million bribe to abandon their sons and daughters in Afghanistan — those people punch back twice as hard.

Let’s see, you’re supposed to get a Nobel Prize in recognition of a triumph.
The cone creature alleges that the triumph being recognized by the prize, is getting a Nobel Prize.

Conie? If Obama turns us into an economically moribund feudal backwater, will that count as a triumph? Lots of folks on your side would say yes.

  53. Comment by dicentra on 10/10 @ 2:19 pm #

Krauthammer pens another one of those seminal pieces that puts our options into terrible focus, “Decline Is a Choice“:

Social democracy and its attendant goods may be highly desirable, but they have their price–a price that will be exacted on the dollar, on our primacy in space, on missile defense, on energy security, and on our military capacities and future power projection.

But, of course, if one’s foreign policy is to reject the very notion of international primacy in the first place, a domestic agenda that takes away the resources to maintain such primacy is perfectly complementary.
    ….
So why not? Why not choose ease and bask in the adulation of the world as we serially renounce, withdraw, and concede?

Because, while globalization has produced in some the illusion that human nature has changed, it has not. The international arena remains a Hobbesian state of nature in which countries naturally strive for power. If we voluntarily renounce much of ours, others will not follow suit. They will fill the vacuum. Inevitably, an inversion of power relations will occur.
    ….
Heavy are the burdens of the hegemon. After the blood and treasure expended in the post-9/11 wars, America is quite ready to ease its burden with a gentle descent into abdication and decline.

Decline is a choice. More than a choice, a temptation. How to resist it?

First, accept our role as hegemon. And reject those who deny its essential benignity. There is a reason that we are the only hegemon in modern history to have not immediately catalyzed the creation of a massive counter-hegemonic alliance–as occurred, for example, against Napoleonic France and Nazi Germany. There is a reason so many countries of the Pacific Rim and the Middle East and Eastern Europe and Latin America welcome our presence as balancer of power and guarantor of their freedom.

And that reason is simple: We are as benign a hegemon as the world has ever seen.

There are, of course, major threats to the American economy. But there is nothing inevitable and inexorable about them.
    ….
There are things to be done. Resist retreat as a matter of strategy and principle. And provide the means to continue our dominant role in the world by keeping our economic house in order. And finally, we can follow the advice of Demosthenes when asked what was to be done about the decline of Athens. His reply? “I will give what I believe is the fairest and truest answer: Don’t do what you are doing now.”

    Emphases mine.

Please note Krauthammer’s judicious use of the term “hegemon,” which is the accurate term to describe our role on the world stage. (Conie, it means “dominant power or influence.”) “Empire” and “imperial” and all their derivatives are inaccurate descriptors, used to gin up outrage where none is warranted.

Oh Shut Up You Know Nothing Douchebag.

While I for one thought the above retort might be a little strong, it’s actually recommended & the title of Chapter 2 in Miss Manners: Answering the Progressive Left.

Chapter 3 is about how to openly fart in polite company.

You should re-read that chapter Snowcone.

    Because you suck at it.

  56. Comment by Matt on 10/10 @ 2:30 pm #

Saying Obama “won” anything is silly snowcone. Ignoring the fact the award has been won by a number of questionable candidates, Obama “won” after 11 days in office. If he had won it after 4 years, 8 years, whatever, I suspect we’d still mock the “win” but not for the same reason its being mocked today. Obama “won” this award for showing up and voting present.

Somebody (can’t remember who) put it best when they said Obama won for not being George Bush.

  57. Comment by Ric Locke on 10/10 @ 2:33 pm #

Jeff Dunham just got a series on Comedy Central. That will do far, far more to rehabilitate the Right with American voters than any candy-ass etiquette lessons taught by David Brooks or David Frum.

I predict that next season, Comedy Central will come out with series mocking Obama in the same vein as Love That Bush and Li’l Bush. Probably along the lines of Obama as a superhero who shows up as the monster rampages through the city, says he’s looking into the problem seriously, and then gets a victory parade and a key to the city — just before the monster stomps the Mayor.

i don’t know about darleen, or maybe little miss attila, if she is around… NEwayz, i actually did go to charm school, and thus actually do know a little something about manners and etiquette. and i shall never forget the most important thing we were taught about good manners, because it was like a sacred mantra to our instructors: good manners are always, fundamentally and ultimately, about making the others feel comfortable and at ease.

and most occasions in life do call for good manners. but there are also times when it is time to stop being polite. and the time for being polite about the Once! is over. and i never want this cheap chinese fucktoy to feel comfortable or at ease about selling off and selling out and destroying whatever he can of our little country. period.

i can be all polite. or i can be all mallory knox. how much of an asshat *you* are determines which one you get. and emperor teleprompter and his court of whores has forfeited their right to my politeness.

My stand on this “Peace Prize” business.

Whatever the award meant in the past it no longer means what it did. This is what the Left both has done and yet can’t understand. The real world defines what a word or phrase means, Nobel Peace Prize” or Harvard degree. Apply the word to a different or changed thing and the meaning or the word changes.

The thing defines the word. To the Snowcone’s, the word defines the thing. There will be peace because Obama won the “Peace Prize”. Cart before horse.

i never thought i could despise another president as much as i did carter. but now i comfort myself (cold comfort yes. but i’ll get what i get and like it =P) with the thought that it took a carter for people to flock to and elect a reagan.

Got curious about how the media in Norway is playing the Nobel Peace Prize decision (I read/write Norwegian fluently), so I check out the Aftenposten (largest daily) this morning. Found one of those opinion poll widgets on their site- vote on if you think the prize to Obama was correct. 62% of Aftenposten’s own Norwegian readers voted not vs 37% who voted yes. Just thought you’d be interested in how it plays out over there. Swedish dailies are pretty much skewing this as a stupid joke the Norwegians have created (to be expected…Swedes love to laugh at dumb stuff their next door neighbors do).

Intellectual midget, smug douchebag, and spoiled little pile he is. Probably never faced any adversity in his existence – just sits on the comp that his mommy bought him and snits away. A truly meager specimen of a man – if it is XY indeed.

And awesome verbal beat down you put upon that insignificant speck of DNA. I salute you.
