“Bite me Jew Boy!” [Darleen Click]

So goes an email message sent from NBC Dateline producer, Jane Stone, in response to …

… an email urging Congress to defund ACORN from Alex Rosenwald, director of media outreach for Americans for Limited Government

Allegedly, Dateline is NBC’s “signature primetime broadcast for NBC News.

One may well speculate on why Legacy poodle media has to be dragged, kicking and screaming, to cover news that doesn’t fit their political agenda.

One may.

NBC’s response? They are outraged at Jane Stone ALG, claiming it’s a hoax.

“I’m still in shock, and outraged that this reckless organization would go out with such a defamatory, irresponsible statement,” Capus told POLITICO. “We have done a complete email analysis, all of our IT, all of our records.”

Curious. One would think NBC would be eager to help get to the bottom of this rather than going all Howard Dean on ALG.

Very curious.

We have done a complete email analysis, all of our IT, all of our records.

It’s easy to spoof someone else’s e-mail address, at least on the surface. If you get all of the deeper data, you can find out exactly which machine sent it.

Also, how hard it is to swipe a Blackberry and send something from it without the owner’s notice?

My disdain for the MSM is boundless, but I doubt someone at NBC would be reckless enough to send a message like that from their own Blackberry.

Information on the message’s true source would be in the e-mail server at ALG (which makes me wonder whose application-layer gateway is malfunctioning).

ALG should have dug deeper before releasing this particular press release.

  2. Comment by dicentra on 9/25 @ 6:26 pm #

This email has left a digital footprint that is undeniable. We did our due diligence. We have confirmed that it indeed came from NBC’s server and Jane Stone’s email address.

OOOPS! ALG did look into the deeper data. Either a clever hacker spoofed the IP or someone swiped the Blackberry or Jane is lying.

Or ALG is lying. You can’t rule that out, can you?

  5. Comment by Jeff on 9/25 @ 6:46 pm #

No you can’t rule out that ALG is lying but what would they accomplish by faking this whole thing ? One NBC hack gets fired ??? Hardly worth the effort …

NBC on the other hand has alot of reasons to lie about this …

My bet is someone else grabbed her Blackberry and sent the response … either a co-worker or someone at home …

  6. Comment by JD on 9/25 @ 6:48 pm #

Yes, Tom. ALG manufactured this elaborate hoax to take down some no-name clown @ NBC. Sure.

  7. Comment by Shakes on 9/25 @ 6:54 pm #

    Somebody probably is lying.

You pays your money and takes your chances.

If I was a betting man, who knows? Never really heard of ALG, so I don’t give them any credibility. I have heard of NBC, and I give them no credibility. So on the chance that ALG has some credibility, I will side with them on my bet.

I am no IT guru. I thought these things can be traced and it could be proven.

I’m an American and I’m for limited government.

I have to walk by NBC Universal every day.

I’m terrified. I’ve never been so terrified. My friend J says my new Armani rectangle glasses make me look a tad Jewish. This is not good. This is not good at all.

Didn’t NBC by way of Dateline fake cars exploding? And, don’t they employ Olbergasm and MadCow?

  12. Comment by Jim on 9/25 @ 7:07 pm #

I do not trust NBC news. Jane sent the email “bite me Jew boy”
I dare NBC to sue American for limited government over this.
They will not, because she sent it.

If I’m not mistaken, the cellular provider owns the Blackberry server, not NBC. The records would be sitting on that box, too, out of reach to NBC’s IT department for any, erm, accidental log deletions.

The Blackberry Server installs on the email server (at NBC), but the cell carrier would have a record of the email too. The Blackberry server logs and email server logs should have a record. Not that anybody is going to look.

Better bring the poncho, JD, supposed to be rainy. I’m 45 minutes east of Columbus, actually.

Have fun at the game, and I hope you took out a small loan for the concessions. It’s gotten ridiculous at the ‘Shoe.

  33. Comment by serr8d on 9/25 @ 7:54 pm #

I’ve read ALG for quite some time, and get his newsletter e-mails. At the very bottom is this:

Click here to unsubscribe from the Daily Grind.

    Americans for Limited Government
    9900 Main Street, Suite 303
    Fairfax, VA 22031

Sure, Bill Wilson tilts at windmills (he was after ACORN long before it became cool) but doesn’t need to invent a controversy to get attention. If he did lie about this (and I doubt that he did) then he deserves to crash and burn.

But why would Jane Hamsher Stone write a reply “take me off your list” when there’s a linky to do that for her?

  34. Comment by DarthRove on 9/25 @ 7:55 pm #

JohnAA, I haven’t been to the stadium yet this year, but it was $3.50 IIRC. I’ll be there for Wisconsin and whatever game Mrs. Darth got tickets for.

JD, hope you have a great time. Those pesky Illini really have the Buckeyes’ number lately, so I’m pretty nervous about this game. I have to say Illinois fans are a lot of fun to be around, especially during the Big Ten basketball tournaments.

If you want/need any restaurant recommendations for after, let me know what you’re looking for.

  37. Comment by badanov on 9/25 @ 7:56 pm #

My best guess is Jane is lying.

It is easy to spoof an email address, but email headers don’t lie which do contain IP addresses of the sending server, nor do http logs and mail server logs.

I would love to have a gander at the email header of this particular email and the receiving mail server log entry for this email, as well as the sending server and any relaying servers the email went through.

The matter can be quickly laid to rest. Relying on NBC’s own IT department is not a reliable standard, however:

Not, uhmm, (gulp) it ain’t ours…

Release the email headers, the http logs and mail server logs to independent experts, or better yet, post them online for everyone to see.

NBC’s response? They are outraged at Jane Stone ALG, claiming it’s a hoax.

The school’s response? They are outraged at the teacher who got the kids to chant “mm, mm, mm, Barack Hussein Obama” whoever recorded it and uploaded it to YouTube, claiming it’s an invasion of privacy or something.

ACORN’s response? They are outraged at their employees Giles, O’Keefe, and Breitbart, claiming it’s an invasion of privacy or something.

The Left’s response? They are outraged at Obama Joe the Plumber, claiming he isn’t named Joe, isn’t a licensed plumber, and “thee” is one of those old Christer expressions anyway.

These are the reactions of an (honor-)shame culture, where the whistle-blower is wrong for causing a loss of face, not a guilt culture where the original wrongdoing is the issue.

A guilt culture is built on an objective worldview: reality is what it is, and other people’s opinion one way or the other doesn’t change the facts of reality. An act is therefore objectively right or wrong when evaluated against a code of behavior.

A shame culture is built on the subjective worldview: reality is determined by who has the most powerful gang/tribe, and who has the most honored places within that tribe. An act is subjectively judged based on how it affects the balance of honor and shame. The same act committed by different people therefore either enhance or detract from the reputation of the tribe and the tribal leaders.

Hence, the acts that a guilt culture finds objectively bad are irrelevant to the shame culture, which finds the revelation of those acts, which bring shame upon the tribe, to be the evil.

Most of the world has operated on the honor-shame basis. Western Civilization, drawing upon the Judeo-Christian notion that God knows what you did, even if no one else finds out, has been exceptional in being at least partially based on guilt instead of shame.

Within Western countries, there are subcultures that operate on shame. Consider the ghettos in large cities, in which “snitching” to the Po-Po is a greater affront than the robbery, rape, or murder the “snitch” is reporting.

In the French banilieux or similar enclaves, we are surprised when a Muslim will kill his own sister because she was seen in the company of a man to whom she was neither married nor related. We should not be.

After 2001 and 9-11 the Libertarian Party left me and went somewhere right off that chart.

The point of the Chart is to show that the left-right linear “spectrum” is crap. At least two other issues are orthogonal to the personal and economic liberty axes: Foreign policy and abortion. The LP has taken an isolationist approach, but there are many small-l libertarians who consider the isolationists of all domestic-policy stripes “idiotarians”, and therefore call themselves “anti-idiotarian“. I believe isolationism is the international equivalent to anarchism (and it is not coincidental that many anarchists are isolationists). Although, superficially, Jefferson’s libertarian maxim “That government governs best which governs least” would seem to logically lead to anarchism domestically, and isolationism internationally, I think both errors are in a naive reading of what TJ was on about.

The unstated part of that maxim is “…while still governing well enough to maintain peace.”

Alternatively, one could read “govern” to mean not only the formal variety, but the informal sort, such as the “government” provided by organized crime, Hisb’Allah, and even your friendly neighborhood pimp. When the formal government withdraws from a sphere of society (such as it does by declaring the trade in certain drugs extra-legal), it creates a vacuum, which Nature finds sufficiently abhorrent that it will fill with informal structures that use force to compel compliance with their dicta (“Youse got a nice little ‘performance art’ business here; it would be a shame if anyting happened to it, capice?”).

Precisely because the parties to these extra-legal transactions cannot appeal to the formal government to arbitrate disputes, they must handle them in other ways. As Glenn Frey put it so well: “You always carry weapons, ’cause you always carry cash.” By this reading, Jefferson is saying that the formal government should be sufficient to offer dispute-resolution services to all who will avail themselves of them, to punish and deter those who unilaterally impose themselves upon others against their will, so as to minimize the total element of force in relationships. There is a point of diminishing returns below which a reduction of the formal government will result in an even greater increase by informal governments, and a point (perhaps the same one) above which increases in formal government are themselves more harmful than any reduction in informal government that may result.

So when it comes to foreign policy, I am neither interventionist nor isolationist. I think we have to identify those regimes that refuse to respect the lives, liberties, and property of other nations, and act against them using whatever tools are best suited to the specific situation. In many cases, diplomatic pressure to have the vaunted “international community” stop doing business with such a rogue regime may be sufficient to persuade it to change its ways. In others, we may have to take military action, even when no open hostilities have been declared by the other side.

It has to be common knowledge among the tyrants of the world that making the US think they are an enemy is not a good idea.

Monster – that was a very good – both of them.

The isolationist issue is one problem I have with libertarianism. We are not ents, we are a part of this world, and that world is interested in us, whether we want it to be or not. And if there has to be showdown with another nation, I prefer that showdown to occur elsewhere than here. I am selfish like that.

This world has cats, and the cats need to be belled, even if some mice would prefer to work with the cats. We bell cats, it is better to do so. If cats do not get belled, then the danger grows.

Good-night Abyssinia, whomever you are today.

Monster: I particularly like the last bit. The part where you unilaterally threaten anyone who doesn’t play.

I particularly like the last bit. The part where you unilaterally threaten anyone who doesn’t play.

    Nice strawman.

Those who don’t play aren’t the problem. They aren’t bothering anyone.

The problems are the ones who do things like try to build nuclear weapons while running big rallies where people chant “Marg bar America!” (Death to America). You know, the same regime that violated our territory during the first Obama Administration (1977-1981), taking hostages that they held long enough that the ABC special news updates each night became the series “Nightline”.

Or the ones who allow al-Qaeda to run the training camps for the terrorists who executed 9/11, and continued to harbor them rather than turn them over to us afterward.

Or the ones who paid a bonus to the families of dead terrorists, attacked and tried to annex one of its neighbors, agreed to a cease fire when they got their asses kicked for doing it, then proceeded to violate the terms of the cease fire, including more than a baker’s dozen UN Resolutions, used WMDs on disenfranchised ethnic groups, tried to assassinate the former POTUS, and tried to build nukes he could use against his neighbors.

Or another country where we have a cease fire after the regime tried to annex a neighboring country (deja-vu) and the UN sent in troops to defend the neighbor, and is trying to build nuclear weapons to use against them, despite the fact that its people are starving.

But riddle me this, cynn: What is it about “unilaterally” that gets your panties in a wad?

OK, I’m about a week behind, but this is really easy to prove. Show us the headers. If they are still going back and forth about the email being fake, it’s probably fake. This’ll be a black eye for Breitbart if it is, but like I said, it’s easy to prove it’s not. I mean really easy. Someone send me the original as an attachment. LostMyCookies at gmail dot com.

#107: To be fair, Jimmy Carter’s initials actually are “JC”. Obama just thinks his are.
