[Friday, Sept 18]STEPHANOPOULOS: But if you’re – have some of your allies made it easier for — handed your opponents some ammunition, like ACORN, for example…
OBAMA: Well, look, the — you know, I think that — are there folks in the Democratic camp or on the left who haven’t — haven’t always operated ways that I’d appreciate?
Absolutely.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Congress has just cut off…
OBAMA: Is — is…
STEPHANOPOULOS: …all funding for ACORN.
OBAMA: It’s…
STEPHANOPOULOS: Are you for that?
OBAMA: Is that true on the other side, as well?
Of course that’s true.
STEPHANOPOULOS: How about the funding for ACORN?
OBAMA: You know, if — frankly, it’s not really something I’ve followed closely. I didn’t even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money.

You see, that whole Soviet occupation for nearly 50 years left a bad taste in their mouth…Nevertheless, their government was on board with it; as a deterrant to the Russians arbitrarily deciding to walk back in again, like they did in Georgia…
But this thread is about ACORN, that great bastion of troooooof!, honesty, and speaking trooooof! to pow-ah on behalf of the subsidized everywhere…and masters of IRS avoidance, big pimpin’, and child sex slavery-all on our collective nickel…

Slart, so you’re arguing that Obama is incompetent rather than lying?

Not making excusese for ACORN, but that’s a tiny percentage of annual federal government WFAA.
Sure, ACORN needs to be cut off. But not because they’re sucking vast quantities out of the federal coffers in a criminal enterprise.
I’d bet there are dozens of things with the name “Robert Byrd” on them that wasted much, much more money than this.
Comment by Snowcone on 9/20 @ 1:06 pm #

Comment by Slartibartfast on 9/20 @ 1:13 pm #
No, I’m arguing another, mostly unrelated point. But I can well believe he’s not following it closely; plausible deniability and all that. And I certainly believe that ACORN is not, at present, getting a whole lot of federal money, in the eyes of a Washington politician.
A billion here, a billion there, adjusted for four decades of inflation, pretty much make $31 million look fairly insignificant.
Which is not to say that there aren’t really good reasons for doing away with ACORN funding, but the size of government largesse in that direction isn’t one of the strong ones.
Comment by SBP on 9/20 @ 1:16 pm #
But I can well believe he’s not following it closely
I don’t. I think that was another lie. I think the Obama team is burning the midnight oil over this.

You just can’t stand the fact that Obama hasn’t even given a moment’s thought to the latest “triumph” of the phony-crisis-a-week Right?
Comment by Bob Reed on 9/20 @ 1:17 pm #
Snowcone,
I guess you’re too young, or willfully ignorant, to recall how the presence of US troops in Europe seved as a deterrent during that little thing we called the cold war? That’s how the US troops in the Czech Republic would have protected the soveriegnty and security of those people…
And you don’t know too much about missile technology either, do you..? You see, the missiles the Russians were moving to the front were the short and intermediate range type; as such they could be dealt with by the Patriot batteries that would have accompanied the US troop presence, or the NATO counterpart. The batteries in Poland would have only been fored at ICBM missile types, ones that fly too fast for Patriot, SM-3, or any other of the like to intercept, outside of literally the first 30 seconds after launch…
Now defend ACORN, and quit trying to misdirect the thread; even if it does involve another of “Dear Leader’s” lies…
Comment by SBP on 9/20 @ 1:18 pm #
BTW, I’m not sure that “percentage of the federal budget” is the correct way to analyze this.

The Washington Examiner puts the number at $53 million. Bertha herself says 2 million dollars a year, when she’s not busy saying that federal money really doesn’t matter. With the myriad front orgs, it would probably take a small army of auditors to find every ACORN tentacle into government funding, and we should probably hire that army and put it to work.
Whatever the number to date is is, it doesn’t much matter, as that money is gone. What they’re currently eligible for going forward is frightening.

Here’s a question for leftists: what if a newly elected Republican president was facing inquiries over an organization he’d once worked for and maintained ties with over the years and which he’d diverted $800k of campaign funds, a conservative voter outreach program with a history of questionable and shady tactics under investigation in several states, and which was receiving $8 billion on government subsidies as part of a economic stimulus bill that this Republican president had insisted be rushed through congress. Now what if an undercover sting video conducted by guerrila-reporter left-wing college students had revealed that the organization seemed to offer support and technical help to the importation of underage third-world prostitutes, and the Republican president had not commented or faced questions on his reaction until he chose an interview on Fox News, in which after one question, the president indicated it was not a subject he knew anything about or thought was important and the Fox interviewed acquiesced and dropped the questions.
Perfectly okay, right?

But looking back in history ethnic pride has ALWAYS been a factor in politics, look at the Irish ande Italian political machines over the course of out history.
So, is it wrong to vote that way, or is it a natural function of human nature?

*Is he a a “viable” white candidate?*
First and obviously, it doesn’t matter he’s white. It mattered that Obama, with no executive experience, very little legislative experience (“present!”) and an extreme left wing record WAS black.
As for Huckabee, I think he’s a terrible candidate. With the state of the economy, I don’t want a “values” candidate, as much as I want someone who understands economics and will be able to help dig this country out from under the pile of shit Obama will have covered us with by the time 2012 rolls around. However, if it came down to Huckabee and Obama, the choice would not be much of a choice at all.

And, of course, the President had no idea that Acorn was receiving tax dollars. He can’t be held responsible for the stimulus bill that he whored for and signed which directly funds said organization. No one read that piece of shit bill. People, we’ve got to be fair.

Stephanopoulos et al. have yet to wake up to the fact that they’re no longer the gatekeepers on what gets into the news. The ACORN story became news despite being ignored by such as Charles Gibson.
As to missile defense, I say again that it was hysterically funny to watch the NPR types spin this as the cancellation of a “Bush-era” project. That “Bush” handle sure is handy.
Canceling this project does nothing but encourage those who’d do us harm. Even if the missile defense system didn’t work that will at first, it was bound to get better over time, so failure to follow through sends the message that we’re timid, and this has been noted, believe me.
Every administration since Carter’s has had to deal with some fallout from his monumental stupidity and cowardice. I think future administrations will be dealing with fallout from Carter and Obama.

What will O!bama do after he’s run out of office? He’s not going to get any free TV time once he leaves the White House. Jimmy Carter has to work at getting noticed (which may partially explain his racist behavior). Al Gore has to lie his face off, peddling his environmental fear mongering.

Comment by Spam Heap on 9/21 @ 7:17 am #
Whoops. Sorry. Not yet had enough coffee.
The poll Snowcone quotes asks for most popular *living* ex-Presidents. That’s a pretty small field: Carter, GHWB, Clinton, and GWB. GHWB, a typical Eastern blueblood was not a very impressive figure and, since leaving office, has retreated into obscurity, much as his much-vilified son, GWB, probably will. Clinton, a huge character, has similarly retreated into the background, IMHO mostly so he can enjoy as much trim as he can lay his hands on. That leaves Jimmah who, since his despicable Presidency, has devoted himself to getting as much positive press as he can.
He can always be depended on to slam any Republican, or Israel. when he’s not being asked for slanderous sound bites, he can be filmed hammering a nail into a Habitat for Humanity house. So, ok, devoting himself to getting positive news reports has worked. That doesn’t mean his Presidency wasn’t a series of calamities provoked by mind-boggling incompetence and cowardice.
Comment by Slartibartfast on 9/21 @ 8:05 am #
HFH was probably a good move, as is the extensive flesh-pressing the guy does every time the Secret Service holds up a flight so he can enter last.
Nice old bastard, I’ll give him that. But he was a complete foreign policy fail. Hence: “Jimmy Carter is the living ex-president who has done the best job since leaving the White House“.
