Breaking: Senate votes to de-fund criminal enterprise ACORN [Darleen Click] UPDATED

3:42 pm PDT: I’ve been hearing it on the radio, haven’t found reports of it on the ‘net yet. SBP has been following it.

HR3288

via Michelle Malkin

The Johanns Amendment is #2355 to H.R. 3288.

Johanns cited the BigGovernment.com sting videos as evidence that ACORN cannot be trusted with government money:

“Until a full investigation is launched into ACORN, no taxpayer money should be used to fund its activities. A vote in favor of my amendment is a vote in favor of the taxpayer and a vote against the status quo.”

4:00 pm PDT: Ah, here we go… ABC**

The 83-7 vote would deny housing and community grant funding to ACORN, which stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

The action came as the group is suffering from bad publicity after a duo of conservative activists posing as a prostitute and her pimp released hidden-camera videos in which ACORN employees in Baltimore gave advice on house-buying and how to account on tax forms for the woman’s income. Two other videos, aired frequently on media outlets such as the Fox News Channel, depict similar situations in ACORN offices in Brooklyn and Washington, D.C.

Good lord, the All Barack Channel has to soft peddle this as much as possible. **ABC is just carrying the Associated Press story. Like they don’t have an agenda, eh?

UPDATED Roll Call is up –

Seven in favor of prostitution/child sex slaves and voter fraud:
Nay:
Burris (D-IL)
Casey (D-PA)
Durbin (D-IL)
Gillibrand (D-NY)
Leahy (D-VT)
Sanders (I-VT)
Whitehouse (D-RI)
***************************
via Hot Air (h/t Pablo) — calls for congressional hearings and IRS audits

“If you see that it’s endemic, that it’s at least three cities will help support and organize and provide for lending to homes of prostitution for underage girls that come from foreign countries that are likely illegal, how many drugs are being dealt out of houses facilitated by ACORN?” [Rep. Steve King, R-IA] told FOX News on Monday.

“What would they not do?” he asked of the ACORN workers. “Where would they reach a moral revulsion?”

King called on Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, to hold investigations into ACORN, the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now, which also has been accused of widespread voter fraud during the 2008 presidential election. King also asked for a full “financial forensic analysis” into the group on behalf of the Internal Revenue Service.

happyfeet points to an jaw-dropping bit from NPR

It’s also important to keep in mind that ACORN’s workers are coming from the same low-income neighborhoods the organization serves, with all that entails — poor schools, high crime and the sorts of social problems that have been documented for decades.

So the flaws conservatives are pointing out about ACORN are not so much problems associated with that organization per se but more about the problems of being poor and minority in urban America.

What has being “low-come” have to do with knowing right from wrong? Is NPR saying that low-income black people are incapable of not participating in prostitution/child sex slaves and voter fraud?

Wow. Who are the real racists here?

The result is up on the Senate page. The roll call isn’t there yet, but should be there shortly.

Burris, Casey, Durbin, Gillibrand, Leahy, Sanders, and Whitehouse were the ones who voted to continue funding child sex slavery.

They’re more scared than I realized, these dirty socialist ones. It’s weird cause there’s no difference between ACORN values and the values of that dipshit dirty socialist president person. Barack Obama is ACORN is Barack Obama is ACORN. Pimps and hookers, hookers and pimps and our little country increasingly defiled.

Given that the MSM justly ignored The Lie of Racial Rethunglican Racists That is Anti-ACORN Racism (TLRRRTAAR) just how could such a bill be proposed?

The tough nut to crack will be the House. I expect Nancy Pelosi will dig in her designer highheels and use every dirty trick at her disposal to make sure it never comes to a vote.

The hope I have is that O’Keefe is playing this perfectly…releasing these tape one at a time to keep building the shock and belieing the claim it’s just one or two “isolated” incidences.

More shoes to drop, I expect.

Imagine the SD being defunded – and it stuck – in 1930.

It’s awfully hard to corrupt a census when you can’t control the data collection. This vote marks the moment when the Democrats realize what they are really dealing with.

    Just freaking wow.

The non voters were 9 total (7 Reps, 2 Dems), included eight probable Yeas, Byrd being the one Nay Dem I counted as such. Mikulski is the only other Dem in the non-voting category and dollars to doughnuts she’d vote Yea too. So that would make 83 + 9 = 92 Yeas to 7 Nays.

Wingnut whining about ACORN, distilled: Conservatism has always been an unqualified success, therefore any failure to prevail at the election booths must always be due to Dark and Mysterious Forces.

It couldn’t possibly have anything to do with some abject ideological failure, such as Bush handing off a plummeting economy after 8 years.

  42. Comment by Pablo on 9/14 @ 5:40 pm #

Fortunately, ACORN derives most of its income from its members and other supporters, so the decision will have little impact on overall operations.

Sweet! We’d better make sure the House knows that when it gets over there.

Tonight’s vote will burden the families who benefited from ACORN’s important work to improve housing conditions in the United States.

Wait, what’s that? Wouldn’t those people already have their house? And you’re gonna be business as usual, you said, right?

It’s hard out here on a pimp.

  44. Comment by JHo on 9/14 @ 5:44 pm #

ACORN being exposed as a criminal organization – on tape, in courts.

Conversely, the tolls are more than tacitly promoting the notion of the voter-taxpayer funding criminal acts via federal policy. There’s so many layers of wrong there it’s hard to separate them.

Meanwhile the MSM just proved itself, in one fell swoop, fraudulent. Immaterial. Outdated, dishonest, and obsolete.

So where, in all of this, can ACORN be defended on point and principle? Trolls? Were this BushCo, the mighty hew and cry of Truff Ta Powah would be going on…a decade after the fact fiction.

Wouldn’t it, trolls? So go on. Defend ACORN. Defend illegality. Defend the Administration paying for same under the auspices of justly representing your aims. They are your aims, right?

RD, I just deleted six paragraphs of reasoned refutation of your post.

Then I thought better of it. We criticize The Won – so we are by default racist. After that – why do you even take the time to pitter patter the keys? What do you seek to accomplish?

If we are indeed the gap toothed inbred racist sons/daughters of the brainless God bothering Ma and Pa Kettles we are painted in the press…

… then what the fuck is the profit to you in engaging us?

I give the Loony Left two props, and a defense: A true believer, like Obama, Ayers, Wright, Dorn, Davis… they believe in what they have studied, and they have studied all their lives. They embrace the evil because they are convinced that evil is a valid path to greater good.

The useful fools can be defended by pointing at the last fifty years of public education combined with the resultant degradation of our society. They were raised to be critical without being informed. They were raised were consequence was as far removed from action as possible.

I will not go quietly into one more run at “sharing the wealth” aimed squarely at “… and to each, according to his needs”.

Where’s the racism? I just don’t like commies. Watching Obama being led around by his handlers, floating amongst this sad and gormless political class we have shat out after so many years amongst the lotuses, are an insult to the office he occupies. People – they can stand or fall on the content of their character. I heard that somewhere before.

Ideologues get called on their crap. It’s called freedom. And it is what is at stake.

    From Discover the Networks.

“Since ACORN is a private corporation, it does not divulge its finances. Complicating any effort to calculate ACORN’s income is the fact that the organization operates an enormous number of front groups, many of which conceal their relationship to ACORN. As of October 2008, there were at least 294 front groups, nonprofits, and businesses related to ACORN, the vast majority of which listed their headquarters as: 1024 Elysian Fields Avenue in New Orleans, Louisiana — the site of a now-defunct funeral home.

That should make the “financial forensic analysis” and any discovery very interesting. Just pull one thread, the right one.

RD and stinkfinger can’t hope to defend ACORN’s actions, both histoical and of late. So instead we get, “Booooooosh!” and “Eeeeeeeevollll RethugliKKKan Raaaaacists!”…

The US government shouldn’t be funding croups that defraud elections and game the system in general…

Remember, by mau-mauing the banks, using provisdions in CRA as backup, ACORN is in part responsible for the incredible amount of sub-prime paper that was written for people who couldn’t afford it, and as such are also culpable in the current economic downturn…

Thanks for that ACORN, I never thought my tax dollars would be used to directly ruin the economy…

Lately, I’ve witnessed first hand a personally wrenching story as the Internet, along with a weak economy, hastened the decline of the newspaper business, with many fine journalists, including friends, being forced into other lines of work, or unemployment.

But the Internet which taketh away also giveth. Three years ago while still at the Tribune, I created The Swamp, a successful politics and policy blog. It was an exciting time, building a brand new Web community while at the same time having a small part in the newspaper industry’s transition to the digital era.

Yes. Howie Kurtz can tell you. They don’t like Glenn Beck.

In the Jones case, there is little question that the traditional media botched the story of an Obama administration official who, wittingly or otherwise, lent his name to those who believe that George W. Bush and Dick Cheney deliberately allowed thousands of Americans to be slaughtered. Some conservatives accused journalists of liberal bias; it is just as likely that their radar malfunctioned, or that they collectively dismissed Beck as a rabble-rouser.

Thing is, when the Senate drops a hammer like that and they haven’t said a sing;e word about it coming, they look pretty fucking silly.

I’m trying to figure out why open-minded william yelverton is arguing in favor of giving the public less information with which to form opinions.

I’ll add that the “uneducated black community organizers taken by white college kids” meme is rather disgusting and condescending. Those women in the Baltimore video may not have been to Ivy League State, and may have engaged in morally repugnant behavior, but they were plenty clever and knew more rudimentary tax law than 95% of college graduates. They could also probably hustle william yelverton out of his acoustic guitars in short order.

    Weak even for you, Snotcone.

    Why do you say that?

If we’re now going to cut off government funds to organizations on the basis of morals, the Catholic Church seems like the next obvious choice, right?

Or is boinking little boys not as bad as providing tax advice to hookers?

  189. Comment by SBP on 9/14 @ 10:23 pm #

    Why do you say that?

I’m not going to “debate” you, you fucking retard.

Now, why don’t you answer the question? What’s your take on importing underage girls to be sex slaves?

You won’t answer. Either because you can’t, or because you actually approve of that sort of thing.

  212. Comment by Bob Reed on 9/14 @ 11:05 pm #

Ok Snowcone, I’d like you to provide any links you have for recent episodes of the behavior you are alleging that the Catholic church condones…

Because I admit that was a problem 5 to 10 years ago. But that was addressed internally and in the courts where appliable…

Prove it, you smarmy dirtbag, you pusillanimous palavering popinjay!

Acorn is currently involved in connivance and criminal behavior on an institutional level. In contrast, molesting altar servers were individual offenses that were admittedly smoothed over on an institutional level-where possible.

So your Tu Quoque argument falls on it’s absurd face unless you have recent examples of what you allege…

um, Snowcone, did you notice how the article kept saying “Catholic Church in Ireland”? this in particular right before the quote: “The priest addressed the downfall of the Catholic church in Ireland.”

  219. Comment by Bob Reed on 9/14 @ 11:32 pm #

    Snocone, from your link:

A prominent Irish priest has called on the Catholic Church to halt recruitment of new priests until they properly address Ireland’s clerical child abuse controversy.

In May, Ireland’s Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse published its shocking Ryan report, which revealed that thousands of Irish children had suffered extreme physical and sexual abuse over decades in institutions run by the religious orders.

You are truly a moron, aren’t you. In your zeal to google up some reply to my intellectual challenge, you have linked to an article about the Catholic chirch in Ireland

We’re talking about money from the US budget being given out in America, to American organizations…

I knew that you had nothing anyway, and were just avoiding the topic of this thread, which is the utter corruption of Acorn; and Obama tangentially, since he has long associated, worked for, and employed on his campaign, that same corrupt organization…

Perhaps the implication that our well educated troll is making is that, to him, and others on that port side, ACORN is a religious organization. One that they support with tithes and pray daily for the salvation it holds for them.

These offices that have been attacked in the videos are full of missionaries, preaching a new gospel of the salvation to be found in the Messiah of Chicago. Do not blaspheme.

  225. Comment by Abe Froman on 9/14 @ 11:36 pm #

Are you saying Congress would never cut off a white organization that routinely rapes little boys..

White Organization? Are you at all familiar with the demographics of the Catholic Church? The incidents in the Catholic Church are much more analogous to all the incidents of pedophilia in public schools, but then even a moron like yourself wouldn’t throw the publics schools out there to make a cheap rhetorical argument. Instead you’re trying to compare an organization which teaches 2.7 million kids in its schools, runs 225 colleges and universities and operates 625 hospitals – mostly in blue states btw – with a nakedly partisan organization of street activists whose transgressions were directly in the process of carrying out their most basic functions.

  226. Comment by Bob Reed on 9/14 @ 11:38 pm #

    Jim,
Just like the little boy in the fable, “The Boy who cried wolf”, you and your ideological fellow travelers are diminishing the stigma of racism every day; owing to the cavalier and gratuitous way you accuse anyone who disagrees with Obama’s policy prescriptions of it…

Here’s a clue, son. Obama is simply the black version of John Edwards. Not too many of us like Edwards either; but you clods didn’t bother to brsnd us racists for opposing him…

Crawl back under your rock Jim William Yelverton…

  228. Comment by Abe Froman on 9/14 @ 11:39 pm #

Conservatives just hate any black that is not a token uncle Tom. They hold up a few just to ‘prove’ their not racist, but that is transparent.

Every example of an ACORN worker fired was black, and to your typical racist conservative, that puts Obama in the same boat. Worse, most think he’s a Kenyon illegal and a Muslim. They are a truly racist bunch. They hate Obama because he is black. No doubt about it.

I suppose talk like that is a whole lot easier than thinking.

  232. Comment by Bob Reed on 9/14 @ 11:44 pm #

    Jim William Yelverton,
Why do you keep up with that racist drivel? You know it’s not true…

The left are the ones that have reduced black folks, en masse, to useful idiots with which you can bludgeon any opponent. Using people as tools constitutes a kind of ideological slavery…

So you all are the real racists…

    And see my #235…

  233. Comment by Abe Froman on 9/14 @ 11:46 pm #

If they can find one black guy amoung 10,000 whites at a teaparty, they’ll hold ‘em to the world so as to say, “We’re not racist” hahahaha!!

Are you suggesting that blacks weren’t welcome to join in? Because otherwise you’re employing the reasoning skills of a toddler.

What I thought was interesting about the few signs that Chuckie jazzboy put up is that one of them had Bush on it too, one referenced China and made no sense to me and a bunch had a hammer and sickle as well. Why no outrage over the commie symbolism? After all, it isn’t quite like when leftists carried innumerable Bushhitler signs where they were saying he was the really bad part of National SOCIALISM, the evil genocidal murderer part. These all seemed like dopey, overwrought expressions of concern/protest over the authoritarian, cult of personality and statist aspects which trouble many about Obama. They are examples of idiocy in a massive crowd seem less pointed than what I saw so much of from the left.

You should have seen the Democrat party before the reactionary leftists took over.

    It was actually patriotic.

“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.” John Kennedy, January 20, 1961

so, with that done, how’s about you make with the issue at hand: ACORN and its problems.
    No?
    okay then.
Just as well. I think your analogy was super-sharp and the sign of a keen mind: an organization with a culture of closeted homosexual activity versus an organization that appears more than willing to tolerate breaking the law everywhere and anywhere it can as a matter of principle.

I think your analogy was super-sharp and the sign of a keen mind: an organization with a culture of closeted homosexual activity

The funny thing about that is, they allowed the homos into the seminaries at the urging of people like william yelverton, Ph.D., who at that time accused the Church of not being inclusive and being too judgmental and such. They crossed their fingers and promised to be good, while people like william yelverton, Ph.D. chided the Church for suggesting that the homos ought not be trusted with the keys to the altar boy locker room.

Now, people like william yelverton, Ph.D. get to run through the j’accuse routine for trusting in their advice. Funny thing is, there are remarkable similarities between the william yelverton, Ph.D.s of the world and the original Aramaic meaning of Ha-Satan as “the accuser,” one who tempts to sin, and then stands as the accuser of the sinner.

Having said this, and seen what william yelverton, Ph.D. has posted in this thread, you might be surprised to learn that he is not at all averse to receiving rousing standing ovations after performing in Roman Catholic Churches:

Standing ovation in St. Patrick’s Church, Binghamton, NY – The Millenium Concert 12/31/99. St. Patrick’s church, built in 1823 is one of the oldest large churches in upstate NY.

He’s run for POTUS 7 times as a Dem.

How many of those times has the DNC permitted him to seat delegates? Has he ever cornered more than a fraction of a percent of votes? Is he any more of a Democrat than David Duke is a Republican? Or Pat Buchanan?

Larouche’s last four runs at the Presidency could not have seated him any delegates because he was ineligible to vote, being a convicted felon and all. The DNC refused to seat any delegates for him on those four occasions.

So: you still think he’s a Democrat?

Pat Buchanan used to run for office as a Republican, including for president in 1996 — he even got some delegates as I recall.

Later, he quit the GOP and managed a one-time takeover of Perot’s Reform Party. IIRC his running mate that year was avowed Communist Lenora Fulani. The Reform Party nominated Ralph Nader for president in a subsequent year.

I think we can safely say that Buchanan was never sincerely a Republican even though he did seat delegates in an attempt to win the presidency. If he claims now to have returned to the fold I don’t buy it. His only consistent principle all along, especially in his electoral forays has been to promote Patrick J. Buchanan.

Now, Lyndon LaRouche undoubtedly also seeks only to promote Lyndon LaRouche. And as Slart points out he has never managed to seat a single delegate in all his presidential attempts.

But he has also never switched parties in any of his campaigns. He has run as a Democrat every time.

    He’s a Democrat.

Nice find, from a comment at B-Cast: Undercover investigations are awesome!

See Page 16, of this lovely document.

    In March 2004, Christina
    introduced millions of primetime
    television viewers to RAL scams
    when she played an undercover
role in a segment of Dateline, NBC’s Emmy-winning investiga-
tive news program. Pretending to be a naive tax
    preparation customer, Christina
    walked into a Jackson Hewitt
    office with a Dateline producer
who had a camera hidden in his
    sunglasses. The tax prepara-
    tion employees were caught on
camera as they tried to convince
Christina to take out a high-inter-
    est RAL. “The Jackson Hewitt
employee said it takes the IRS
too long to process a refund, and
made RALs seem so much faster,” Christina explains. “It was surreal
to see myself on TV. I had family
    members calling from Minnesota
and New Mexico to tell me they’d
    seen it.”

I’m not saying the DNC won’t back nutballs, mind you. I can see them backing Dennis Kucinich, on the off-chance that he’d be able to garner enough delegates, and he’s nuttier than squirrel shit. But there is a certain ideological overlap between Kucinich and the DNC.

I don’t see the problem, here. You can’t be a member of a club that won’t have you, unless you’re a gender or racial exclusion and sue. Even then: see what that’ll get you.

Has something changed in his eligibility between now and his 2004 run? Let’s not get all tense here.

Dunno. It looks as if he wasn’t eligible in 2004; he certainly wasn’t in 1992, 1996 and 2000.

    Is the FEC authoritative?

In what respect? All the FEC link you gave shows is that he’s taking donations. Larouche is/was ineligible under DNC rules, not FEC rules. DNC rules require that a candidate must be a registered voter, and Larouche had lost his franchise.

He can’t be the DNC’s nominee without being a registered voter.
