I may comment on this from time to time. Drinking game parameters… make suggestions in the comments but I figure a good one to start is “you will get to keep your insurance” is a good bet.
What number will The One peg for the “uninsured”… 47 million? 56 million?
Anyone buy that Obama is sincere about tort reform?
5:11 Introduced (has The One ever been on time for a speech?)
(Hillary and Nancy in the same shade of red… heh)
5:17 “I will not let up until those Americans who seek jobs can find them.” Government jobs? From those 52 new agencies you propose?
5:19 Obama points to Dingell in approving tones, but Dingell has introduced a bill to impose single-payer each year for years
5:22 — Obama is recycling his stump speech points….yawn … with the same unsourced stats
5:23 — “we spend more than any other country” … cuz they cut costs by letting people die, doah.
5:24 — “single payer” got applause…who was that? And Obama just mischaracterized “the rights” position
5:26 — “build on what works”… but what does that mean in ObamaSpeak???
5:27 — “Now is the time to deliver on healthcare”… yeah right
5:28 — Obama promises two unicorns in every pot
5:29 — Oooooo, details!
5:29 — GET READY TO DRINK!!! “nothing in this plan will REQUIRE you to change”… what a fucking bit of duplicity!
5:30 — “preexisting is illegal” “cancellation is illegal” “caps are illegal” “limit out-of-pocket”
5:31 — insurance will have to cover routine check ups (next he’ll require auto insurance to cover oil changes and tire rotations)
5:32 — “Insurance exchange” but what is the requirements for entrance?
5:33 — McCain gets his 5 seconds of face time…. argh
5:34 — You young people YOU ARE IRRESPONSIBLE!!!
5:35 — Guess what people…. INSURANCE WILL BE MANDATORY!!
5:36 — “We still have to work out the details” ….. gag
5:37 — “misinformation”…. yeah? “Death panels” “it is a lie plain and simple” Obama’s straight out lie.
5:38 — Woah! Someone just shouted lie about the illegal aliens!!
5:39 — Obama is lying about abortion, too. Money is fungible.
5:40 — Obama is talking about states with only a few insurance companies but that is because states restrict insurance to within the borders.
5:41 — “I don’t want to put insurance companies out of business” Good lord, how does Obama continue to dissemble like this?
5:42 — The public option is still THERE “the public option will have to be self-sufficient”… like what, the Post Office???
5:43 — Someone want to dissect the comparison Obama just made between public and private universities??
5:44 — shorter Obama: you all shut up about my plan
5:45 — “How do we pay for this plan — I will not sign a plan that adds to the deficit”… anyone believe him?
5:47 — Oh…finally the IT’S BOOOOOOOOSH’S FAULT comes in
5:48 — “we will find savings via waste” trillions of dollars worth?
5:49 — “not a dime of the medicare trust fund will pay for this plan” where IS that trust fund? Obama is signalling end of Medicare Advantage and is talking about those “panels” again.
5:50 — “I will protect Medicare” no you won’t
5:51 — surcharge on insurance policies…. whaa…?
5:52 — Tort reform is not going over well with the John Edwards’ proteges in the audience
5:53 — $900 billion cost “less than Iraq, less than those evil tax cuts to the RICH!!”
5:54 — “I will seek common ground, my door is always open.” When exactly is Obama IN the Oval office and not infront of a camera somewhere?
5:56 — Oh gawd… Dead Kennedy moment. Pimp that corpse, Barry!
5:57 — “Social justice” DRINK!!
5:58 — How can Obama say “self-reliance” in the same breath as proposing statism?
5:59 — Hey Barry — that helping hand is voluntary! the Government hand is NOT voluntary!
6:00 — Barry knows his history of Social Security as well as 57 states
6:01 — “without the leavening hand of Government” WTF?
6:02 — Barry is winding up with usual Messiah rhetoric unmatched by reality
…. good lord that was tedious…..

Sarah Palin, whose writings have gotten the Left and Obama all wee wee’d up has a pointed response (h/t royf)

The congressman who got fed up the Obama’s blatant lie — “illegal aliens won’t get benefits under this reform” — was one Joe Wilson
The culprit was South Carolina rep Joe Wilson, who felt moved to act when The One told what was, in fact, a lie. Although certainly not his biggest of the night: Where this jackass gets off lecturing Americans on civility after his cretinous cronies spent a month demagoging the hell out of every protester in sight is beyond me. You’re Mr. Clean, aren’t you, champ? And bottom-feeders like Harry Reid are your hatchet men. Nice work if you can get it.
I’m told that his magic number of “47 million” uninsured Americans magically dropped to 30 million uninsured in this speech, presumably to omit the illegal immigrants who were inflating the tally
BTW…. I did a search on “Joe Wilson” on Twitter and there are threats against him being “tweeted”
eraka08: Lololol RT @saigrundy: FUCK his office number, where do joe wilson’s kids go to school? we finna ride on this bitch.

eshenayo: RT @saigrundy: RT @stanbray Obama Speech heckler was Rep. Joe Wilson (SC) tell him what u think: 202-225-2452 or http://joewilson.house.gov

Lets all count how many times he uses the personal pronoun and how many times he uses ‘healthcare’. Find what this speech is really about. For every time he says ‘I’ or a contraction of same, you have to do a shooter of JD. For every time he says ‘healthcare’ you have to chug a beer. Bonus chug if he uses ‘urgent’ somewhere preceeding ‘healthcare’.

Oh my heavens, he went on about 20 minutes too long( 60 minutes too long really)…
And he basically said, while deficit neutral, the public option will be a part of any plan that is passed…
And while pledging no cuts to medicare, he clims that 500 billion can be saved through streamlining…
Says it’s not a government takleover, but a strong guiding hand…
Mostly bullshit; nothing new save for a bone thrown to the malpractice reform crowd…

Barry:
What hardened their disdain Barry? Could it be that we have seen administration spokesmen denigrating ordinary Americans who rose to speak up in townhalls across the nation, Barry, claiming those people were the minions of insurance companies, claiming citizens stirred to act were not doing so on their own account but at the behest of nefarious shadow organizations? Could it be that we have seen the Speaker of the House claiming that opponents of your plans were showing up at townhalls wearing swastikas? Swastikas for crying out loud! Could it be that we have seen a Senator from Ca. claim that these same people were too well dressed, that the suits they wore indicated they were paid hirelings sent out to torpedo your noble efforts. Could the dismissal of these voices from the podium of the White House press Secretary have had something to do with that disdain Barry?

From gregorbo’s PL link (thanks by the way gregorbo), a very important point about Obama’s “plan”:
Comment by gregorbo on 9/9 @ 11:40 pm #
One of my favorite lines from Obama:
“I have insisted that like any private insurance company, the public insurance option would have to be self-sufficient and rely on the premiums it collects. But by avoiding some of the overhead that gets eaten up at private companies by profits, excessive administrative costs and executive salaries, it could provide a good deal for consumers.”
As Hinderaker asks–”Is it churlish to point out that profits are not overhead?”
Is it churlish if Obama has ever taken an economics class? Is it churlish to ask, if he did, if he understood anything about economics?
And, let’s see, “executive salaries.” hmmm. So the ‘public option’ is going to be run by insurance executives who can’t command the big salaries (you know the ones–those Harvard MBA’s that graduated with Bush with C averages) in the private sector and this is going to make the public option run . . . more efficiently?
Oh–and the new “30 million uninsured” as opposed to the 47 million uninsured of, what, yesterday? That’s because Axelrod whispered into the Teloprompter’s ear–”Psst. The 47 million includes 17 million illegal aliens (that we know about) that are already being treated for free in the system, so, whyn’t you cut them out for the moment?”
“

I liked his tribute to Teddy the K: “That large-heartedness – that concern and regard for the plight of others – is not a partisan feeling.”
No, you’re right Pres Obama, it isn’t partisan, it is the feeling of a thief who will accomplish his good deeds with money taken from someone else, the forgotten man.

He lost me at the deficit neutral pitch. That’s code for “I’m going to pay for it by ass-raping you with taxes.” Still, I don’t care how high taxes go, it will double the deficit. I base that on Medicare’s costs outstripping its initial ten-year projection by a factor of twelve.
If you want to know how a future socialized medicine program is going to perform, all you have to do is look at the one(s) we already have.

Mike Tanner at the CATO live-blog noted that: “Chip in” sounds much better than “tax.”

From the Powerline link above, quoting Obama:
[N]ot a dollar of the Medicare trust fund will be used to pay for this plan.
[..]
I
T Reducing the waste and inefficiency in Medicare and Medicaid will pay for most of this plan.
Bu
MoAnd, apparently for added effect, Obama had suggested earlier that the “plan” would instead be solidly grounded on premiums paid by the enrollees….who Obama also claims will be paying less in premiums – because of teh Gov’t
price fixing“competition” on cost – than the beleaguered and much Capitalist-abused private ins. payees, who would soon have to join the non-gov’t subsidized plan – which will in fact be mostly subsidized by Medicare but not a dime of taxpayer money – because, Yea, it shall be “illegal’ for private ins. companies to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions [fake applause], thus driving up private premiums to maintain quality care for all those treated by any particular Provider, but certainly not in the case of Obama’s plan….because, Yea, there will be no ugly “overhead” profit or waste and fraud in His plan, which will therefore be “deficit neutral”, especially because any deficit will be automatically lock-box covered by gov’t spending cuts in other areas, since we Americans need to be forced to enact teh Moral Imparative/Social Justice, because we are Americans who do the right thing, just like Teddy did – and not to mention, Yea, Because He Has Spoken!-Just sayin’ also that the outright implausibility and near gibbering nature of Obama’s sad effort toward even a passable histrionic address might rival his multiple lies when it comes to the Nazi, Terrorist, Racist, Redneck, Southerner, Partisan Rethuglican, Theocon, Capitalist Oppressor, Angry White Male, Uncle Tom, etc., = Public’s response to Obama’s wild flailings about, which seemed to be either quite delusional, or else very poorly executed propaganda.

It’s just as well I weren’t paying tribute to the late Sen. Anvilhead. I would have stumbled on “large-heartedness” and said something instead about his liver.

Below is regarding Joe Wilson, a moronic slimebag
In fact, over his entire congressional career, health professionals represent Wilson’s top industry contributors, donating a total of $244,196 to his campaign, according to the Center for Responsive Politics OpenSecrets.org database. He received another $86,150 from pharmaceutical companies, $73,050 from insurance companies and $68,000 from hospitals and nursing homes.

john williams – None of that excuses Barcky lying to Congress. Repeatedly. Brazenly.
Comment by sdferr on 9/10 @ 10:40 am #
So on your sliding scale of Congressional slimebags where does Charles Rangel stand, pray tell?
Comment by Pablo on 9/10 @ 10:41 am #
What does that have to do with Obama being a liar, john? An why does
Comment by JD on 9/10 @ 10:41 am #
The AMA and Pharma have donated hundreds of millions towards Barcky’s plan, john williams. How does that square with your paranoid fantasies?

F* stupid wingers, what John Wee Wee Williamses is trying to say is … they are the good guys, so anything to them is a good thing.
Its like when Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum learned to fly the alien aircraft in Independence Day. It was a good thing. Now when wingers fly alien aircraft … baaad, baad juju.
Whatever means to the holy end.

To John Williams @ 10:35am:
Joe Wilson joined the congress in 1984. So, over his “entire congressional career,” he’s received an average of $18,885.84 per year from these sources. Or, twice that if you count only years in which he actually ran for office.
Is that excessive?

Yeah? Tony Reznick got Barrak Obama a million dollar piece of property for a hundred grand. In Chicago that’s called doing a friend a favor. Tony Reznick got indicted for doing friends a favor.

It’s too bad we didn’t have a heated debate like this before the two failed Bush wars.

STFU, you pig-ignert troll. But thanks for being honest enough to admit, on 9/11 of all days, that you are such a cowardly and craven partisan that you did not even support the war in Afghanistan.

I mean, even Teleprompter Jesus supports the war in Offgoneestawwwwwwwwwwwn, right?
