A Senior Fellow at the George Soros’ Center for American Progress, Mark Lloyd’s antipathy towards non-leftist participation in the public square is well known. He has written two anti-free speech hit pieces on “conservative talk radio” … a CAP “analysis” “The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio” which never examines talk radio in the larger sphere as being the only alternative to Leftist dominated broadcast television (news and entertainment), newspapers, university and college campuses … and “Forget the Fairness Doctrine”, a whiney little piece where Lloyd tries to bare his teeth against people who oppose his conclusions in the first piece and defends his Trojan Horse plan to achieve his own STFU policy towards conservative talk radio with so-called “local diversity” objectives.
No, nothing to worry about here with Lloyd at the FCC.

Washington, D.C. — Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski recently appointed Mark Lloyd, a former senior fellow at the George Soros-funded Center for American Progress (CAP), to be the FCC’s “Chief Diversity Officer.” Lloyd is a proponent of the Fairness Doctrine and recently wrote that the Doctrine, and other regulatory tools such as localism and diversity mandates, should be employed by the FCC to limit the number of conservative voices on the air and supplant them with liberal voices. He also suggests fining conservative radio stations up to $250 million and giving the proceeds to national public radio. According to polling conducted by Zogby International and The O’Leary Report, most American voters disagree with
what Lloyd prescribes.

Look, they’re just not much interested in free speech. Remember back in ‘06 when ABC ran a program on how we got to 9-11? Not too complementary to either party. But one party (guess) went so far as to threaten ABC’s broadcast license over it. I wrote about it at the time. Note the first two comments, which have a “never mind freedom, it’s the winning that’s important” attitude.
As I predicted, I got a generic form letter back, several months later.

So just as with CRA and the banks, “community leaders and activists” will be able to mau-mau the flak catchers at radio stations and hold their licensces hostage to cutting back on conservative talk radio programs. And it looks like affirmative action will be the law of the land; only this time it won’t be limited to hiring but will extend somehow to ownership of radio stations. I mean what is the government going to do, subsidize people of the “preferred” minority/gender groups to start up and run a station broadcasting the “correct” programming? And don’t folks realize what both of these policies have done to our nation? Do they even care?
I say they can bring it! If this fairness doctrine by fiat passes the court test that some aggrieved broadcaster will inevitably choose to bring, then the matter can be taken to the court of public opinion. The American people have demonstrated many times that they are against this kind of censorship of free speech. And in the wake of the Obamacare protests, will surely be only too happy to publicly voice their dipleasure with yet another of Obama’s tyrannical statist dreams…

Cynn, your mumbling about Ex Post Facto just shows you aren’t a lawyer. They won’t pull licenses retroactively; they won’t pass a law. They will just appoint this guy to the FCC, and he’ll write a new regulation that says licenses will get reviewed every year and these are the criteria. You know, kind of like how EPA didn’t have anything in the LAW establishing it to regulate CO2, but did have a mandate to regulate “threats to public health.” Hire the right scientists, and presto! global warming is a threat, caused by human’s CO2, and we got to regulate human caused CO2. The only reason for Crap and Flayed is that O! wants some political cover from Congress. He was already on record as saying if he didn’t get that cover he would do it through regulations.

That’s… almost cute man, but look, and I’m just curious now… I’ve heard from many places that the overwhelming majority of the scientific community says that global warming exists (and when I say “exists” I mean, worse than it has ever been before), and the evidence points to this degree of global warming existing. Am I supposed to just distrust every chart I see that shows the huge spike in temperatures recently, and all of what I hear about the polar ice caps melting, and everything else (I know I’m being vague, but I don’t think I need to grab a bunch of sources for you to know exactly what I’m talking about)… and believe all of you for some illusive reason? Is the other side all some enormous fucking conspiracy? Would you have me believe that the scientific consensus is not overwhelmingly to the side of global warming existing (and to the degree we’re talking)? And if you’ll admit that you are in the minority, what grounds do you have to disbelieve these scientists?
I realize I’m off topic but I’m really just wondering, because I’ve always found it stunning that so many people still deny this, but please, enlighten me SBP, or anyone else, on this issue if you have contentions with what I just said.
p.s. Mark: yeah it’s most likely man-made, but I thought the issue at hand was whether or not it exists and worse than ever before etc. etc.

I won’t go into any great detail in response to your last at 105, though I will glance (with you) back to your first at 90, and my initial reply at 91. What did you write?

Why respond in this way, you may ask?
“Every scientist”, a categorical statement, universal in its sweep and majesty, is false (hence, bullshit), that is why. For in its universal form, the statement is simply untrue if I may find only one scientist who disagrees (and there are in fact many such). And so, in the face of your uncalled for “…you circle jerking, bullshit swallowing conservative fucks” you seemed to me to deserve just that response. My “you sad person” was added, a gratuity, you might say, as an expression of minor contempt toward your unnecessary insult.
If you had only said “Most scientists” or “Many scientists” you may well have had the truth of the current state of affairs but no, in your haste to be insulting you just had to write “every scientist”. Pity.
As to the substance of the current scientific discourse on whether the globe is warming, may I recommend to you this site as a source of lively and informed debate with more than a few healthy skeptical views, both pro and con?
And as to your belief that the presumed current warming trends are “worse than ever before” you fall perilously close to another categorical stance that won’t, in the end, do you any good at all.
