Stealing African-American culture and no Blacks present. Racists.

A bunch of humorless sorts over at Ace’s place were running them down for doing this.

I think it’s great. Mine wasn’t as non-traditional as this, but still pretty damned non-traditional. It seems to have worked out for us.

It’s touching and authentic and grandma up in the front row likes it too. Good on them. More memorable than people what spent 20 times what I bet these people spent. Good on them again.

  7. Comment by SBP on 7/24 @ 10:35 pm #

Yeah, Darleen. To read some of that, you’d think the bridesmaids were wearing thongs and the groomsmen Chippendale (?) outfits or something.

As far as I can tell, all the naughty bits were fully covered, and everybody seemed to be having a great time — even the older people, as hf noted.

    Twilight zone.

    Heard the reception was all-nude.

Grandma got a boob stuck under the drum kit while break-dancing.

Some of that was not true.

  24. Comment by Sgt. Mom on 7/25 @ 7:49 am #

That was terribly sweet, and very joyous – a wedding is supposed to be a celebration, isn’t it? And as an aside, the whole set-up seemed to be very modest and simple. About the complete opposite from those awful, over-engineered wedding extravaganzas featured on “Bridzillas.”

  25. Comment by Joe on 7/25 @ 8:07 am #

That wedding looked like fun. This is pretty impressive too.

  26. Comment by Log Cabin on 7/25 @ 8:29 am #

That looked like fun. My Grandmother would’ve had a cow about the dancing in church, though.

Are any of the groomsmen under 250 lbs? How does one handwalk at that size?

Is that song by Chris Brown? That can’t be very lucky for the bride!

  27. Comment by Darleen on 7/25 @ 8:41 am #

    Sgt Mom

I’ve never been able to watch more than a couple of minutes of that show. IMHO weddings, large or small, should be fun, happy affairs. What great sports and friends that couple has in their wedding party to don the shades and boogie down the aisle TWICE.

When my cousin got married, it was a large affair in a ritzy hotel (both moms kinda took over), but the couple has a great sense of fun … they took dance lessons and their first dance was a fun choreographed number to Dean Martin’s “That’s Amore”. Who isn’t smiling and singing along with “when the moon’s in your eye like a big pizza pie …”?

One of my best friends got married on Halloween, everybody attending was in costume. Great time, they are still happily married and have a wonderful ten year old daughter.

I can’t see the picture here at work so I hope you don’t mind the off topic link although it seems to be more topical/relevant than the Gates (non) story.

    Hi Danger

The pic is really just a link to YouTube. Can you run YouTube vids at work?

  32. Comment by Cowboy on 7/25 @ 9:51 am #

They were having altogether too much fun.

We Catholics believe that weddings are another opportunity for the redemption that comes through suffering.

We do, however, reserve the right to sin substantially at the reception, thereby ensuring long lines at Confession during the coming week!!

  33. Comment by Bob Reed on 7/25 @ 10:10 am #

Wow, that was something; I wonder if they’re coreographers?

And what church was that, “The Church of What’s Happening Now”?

Seriously, it looked like thay had fun, and that’s what part of what a wedding is supposed to be; a joyous, fun , uplifting celebration…

I’m not critical at all, but I agree with Cowboy; that would have been hard to pull off in a Catholic church. Not so much because of any rules against dancing your way into the ceremony, It just might have been hard to find a Priest who could boogie!

Best Wishes to the happy couple, and to all the PW commentariat on this lovely Saturday

    I wonder if they’re coreographers?

I think it’s safe to say “no”. NTTAWWT.

  37. Comment by sdferr on 7/25 @ 10:53 am #

Though this might prove a transient market that unemployed choreographers may want to exploit for the next few months, eh?

  38. Comment by maggie katzen on 7/25 @ 11:01 am #

most definitely. but I think that might take the fun out of it for the wedding party. it depends on the choreographer, I guess.

Sdfrr, naw, I don’t think so! That is joy! And I dig it!

  41. Comment by sdferr on 7/25 @ 4:04 pm #

Oh, it certainly looks and felt like joy to me donald, no argument there. I’m glad they thought to share it with us, actually. We don’t get to see such things often enough I think.

(my comment about choreographers was only meant to point at the possible “reach to copy” that I expect will follow the success of this video. That’s all.)

    Great stuff Darleen,

    Thanks for posting it :)

    Bob:

In my parish, you aren’t married if it didn’t hurt…not from the reception, but from kneeling for 45 minutes!

Our pastor has been known to cancel a wedding when he smelled alcohol on a groomsman’s breath.

    Wow Cowboy…
Must not be too many Irishmen at your parish!

This is great. I love the officiant, dancing too, in the front. We got married in a Catholic church, so I’m not so sure how great this would have been received by our officiant, but damn, I wish I would have thought of this. It just looks fun.

  46. Comment by chasingwaterfalls on 7/26 @ 9:38 am #

Sometimes I realize that too much exposure to the political culture – or maybe just sour leftist frauds – is turning me into a misanthrope. This kind of thing makes me like people again. Don’t take themselves too seriously, lots of fun, probably real love – a crowd I’d like to be around. Good medicine on a Sunday morning.

(one of my all-time favorite t.v. seens is from Everyone Loves Raymond – brother Robert and wife’s first dance to Elvis’ “Satisfy Me.” Terrible episode – great scene though).

  47. Comment by Spam Heap on 7/26 @ 11:13 pm #

    That. Was. Brilliant.

    Good luck to them.

  48. Comment by MarkD on 7/27 @ 8:01 am #

I loved it. I’ve seen wedding receptions that were less joyous.
