CNN’s Obama ankle-licking by Don Lemon stymied [Darleen Click]

From the Virginian via Glenn Reynolds

Lemon: I was watching you yesterday on The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer when President Obama was arriving and they were doing the dancing and all the people who were running up to him … for a Western leader … I know when Presidents come over there they are usually warmly received, but for a Western leader, have you ever seen anything like this? Is this unprecedented?

Mabuse: It’s not unprecedented. When President Bush was here you will remember in February there were people who were drumming, there were dancers and President Bush joined some of them.

Oopsy! That is not what Axelrod’s narrative demands, Mr. Lemon. And you don’t get a cookie for your efforts.

Why is it that they want to make everything Teh One does as being some super unprecedented event?

  2. Comment by SBP on 7/12 @ 10:16 pm #

Because if the hype ever slips, even for a moment, he turns into New Kids on the Block.

Wow…Ms. Mabuse definately wasn’t down with the messianic narrative…

I guess Axelrod never circulated the memo to the members of the press in Africa…

And not only is it the ol’ Obama is the sooper bestest! narrative, but there is also an implied racist element too. Somehow all of Africa is supposed to rejoice over the election of Obama! But ironically, among the many actual Africans that I’ve met, they don’t really fall for the whole identity politics meme as it is constructed and construed here in America…

And if you listen closely to Ms. Mubase’s comparison of the accounts of Boooosh! and Obama’s receptions, you can see her cognition of Obama’s aloof elitism, if even subconsciously.

You see, not only is the dancing, drumming, music, and singing typical of a greeting extended to a foreign head of state, but Booooosh! joined them in the dancing and reveling

I guess the “son of Africa” is too dignified for that; he’s above that…

Remember, how what passes for comedy on the snide left got so much mileage out of playing films of Boooosh! dancing with the folks in the various African countries he visited?

Yeah, well the dirty little secret is that for all of the palaver and posturing, Booooosh! did more for folks all over Africa than Obama, the “son of Africa”, will ever do. Hell, he won’t even send his relatives over there a few bucks, when a few Benjamins would enable them to live well and want for not; a few Benjamins, for his own family…

But he’ll sure spend trillions of ours real well!

And I’m tired of the most Brilliant! President in history referring to Africa like it’s one big country in his speeched…

This guys good for a gaffe a day, on history, geography, the number of states, you name it!

I’m starting to wonder what has happened to Harvard…

When President Clinton went to Ghana, so many folks wanted to see him that riots ensued. While The One inspired waves of fainting among his believers in America, and as much as Ghanians loved seeing him, he did not cause Clintonian-like riots in Ghana.

  10. Comment by Bob Reed on 7/12 @ 10:48 pm #

    Sure…

The won will dance with Ellen effin’ DeGeneres…He so smooove, like Billy D Williams!

But with Rank and file Africans? Can’t a man just eat his waffle…

Nope, it didn’t “buy” him anything to do so; so he didn’t…

But the eeeeeevolll Booooooooosh!, Chimpy BusHitlerHalliburton!1!1!!eleventy!1!!!1!

He didn’t seem to think that he was above gettin’ down…

Speaks volumes about character and true love of his fellow man…

You see, that’s what real godbothering does for you; as opposed to flavor being preached by that hate filled, self serving, self aggrandizing racist Rev Wright…

you don’t get a cookie for your efforts.

I don’t know, he managed to put Bush in his place at the end, with a smirk, “so they welcome everyone, it doesn’t matter, this is how the people do it, right?

    Pretty much a wash I guess…

  12. Comment by John Q on 7/13 @ 1:41 am #

Do you people ever talk about your own policies or do you just highlight the outrage du jour? We get it, global warming is a hoax, environmentalists are retarded, liberals are ruining America, Obama is a moron, socialized medicine is a horror, and Europe sucks. You have become the party of contrarians.

Begin name calling now. I’m out of here.

  14. Comment by Carin on 7/13 @ 4:26 am #

I was sorta amazed by the … hyperbole over how Africans should view teh One. Why should a country run by black folks be impressed by a black leader from another country? I imagine they prolly more readily look at him, and say “oh, that’s great and all, but… now let’s see what you do.” Unlike most of the black folk in the US, for whom he does no wrong. I mean, shit, even criticizing Michael Jackson (sorry for bringing the name up) is tantamount to a hate crime now a days.

Good think JOhn Q left, before he could be shown his ass.

I, for one, would like JOhn to mention a current “policy” of ours which we should discuss?

    Anyone have any ideas?

That’s it, John Q. Set up about 50 straw man, defeat them, then declare victory and run away.

It’s ever so much easier than actually engaging with the arguments.

What “party” are you jabbering about?

  22. Comment by Carin on 7/13 @ 6:14 am #

Morning danger. I suppose I just have done one of those ellipses dealos. Like this …

  23. Comment by Mr. Pink on 7/13 @ 6:15 am #

John Q thought left wing blogsites were advancing policy on stem sells when they were commenting on Tony Snow’s cancer diagnosis. Also when Dick Cheney was in Afghanistan and there was a bombing at the base he was visiting, left wing sites such as HuffPo and Kos were simply decrying the lack of supplies when they were wishing the terrorist had succeeded in killing him.

I, for one, would like JOhn to mention a current “policy” of ours which we should discuss?

How about “I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic”?

    That’s a good one.

Don’t you love the hit-and-run trolls like JohnQ..? Now there’s real intellectual heft, intellectual honesty, and courage of convictions there I tell ya!

And how is it that all who oppose Obama are automatically RethugliKKKanz, as JohnQ says,”You have become the party of contrarians”…

Is that the new Axelrod approved talking point, or does he really not remember the last 8 years? Hell, for that matter the last 3…

You know, where the Senate basically wouldn’t vote on any Booooooosh! judicial appointments, finally admitting in 2006 that they “felt” those should be the prerogative of the next President…

Or the giant paper-mache heads, burnings in effigy, Dissent! as the highest form of Patriotism, and holding war funding bills hostage to pork barrel and legislative blackmail…

Contrarian indeed; the last 8 years were contrarian! And all because the left could never get past the fact that Al Gore lost…

So now, of you oppose destroying the economy, health care, and essentially our traditional way of life, you’re a contrarian..?

    I prefer to think of it as Patriotism;

  35. Comment by JD on 7/13 @ 7:45 am #

Amen, Brother Bob. Preach it loudly!

  36. Comment by Mr. Pink on 7/13 @ 8:08 am #

President Bush is largely revered and beloved in most of Africa because of his (almost entirely unreported) efforts in the country, so some of that spills over to President Obama. That and Ghanans love a party, and Obama looks sort of like them.

  40. Comment by MNF-I REMF on 7/13 @ 10:05 am #

A classic of this genre occurred back in 2004 on NPR (National Pacifist/Palestinian Radio, depending on your taste). The anchor of the morning news (All Things Considered? Some Select Stuff Distorted? something like that, haven’t heard it in many years) was talking to a reporter in Baghdad, where the first horrendous war crime outrages of many to come had been perpetrated by “insurgents” – car-bomb attacks on police recruiting stations and the Red Cross HQ

The anchor said he assumed the attack on the police facility had dampened interest in joining the police. Dead air followed – awesome. After obviously taking the time to come up with words other than those in her head (“no, dumb-fuck, why would you assume that??”) The reporter began to reply … “uh …. well, no, actually ….. even more Iraqis have appeared at police recruiting stations today” or words to that effect. The anchor was clearly taken aback (you could hear it, just you can see it with the CNN guy). Hilarious.

Or maybe not so funny. In that one brief exchange could be seen the ignorant, arrogant, cloistered mindset of the sort that renders NPR and almost all of the MSM pernicious and disastrous.

  41. Comment by ThomasD on 7/13 @ 10:50 am #

Lemon tried to atone for the own goal right there at the end. Once Mabuse said that Bush received an equally enthusiastic reception he quickly pivoted to the ‘oh well, I guess they do that for everyone then meme.’ A quick pivot is very important when you want to maintain your position in the circle jerk that is the MSM.

When I was on a project in Ghana one of the locals we worked with commented about American Blacks who came to Ghana to visit slave trade museums (just like Obama). He said they should thank God their ancestors were sold as slaves and were taken to America. Now, he really didn’t endorse slavery, but he was being realistic that American blacks live in a land of opportunity and to dwell on injustices hundreds of years old is foolish. Every Ghanaian I met asked me for help with US visas. I think they know Obama is a fool.

  43. Comment by Christopher Taylor on 7/13 @ 4:15 pm #

And asking for further reparations on behalf of their ancestors is really a slap in their face, in my opinion.

Seriously though, the disconnection culturally between African -Americans and actual Africans seems greater, IME, than that between Israelis and American Jews.

  48. Comment by B Moe on 7/13 @ 7:37 pm #

I would say the disconnection culturally between African-Americans and actual Africans is far greater than between African-Americans and any other Americans. It is a false distinction used solely for exploitation.

  49. Comment by SBP on 7/13 @ 10:35 pm #

I’m put in mind of a Richard Pryor bit.

He was doing the “find my roots” thinger in Africa, and asked the chief of one of the tribes if it was true that different tribes had somewhat different appearances. The chief allowed that it was. Pryor then asked “Can you tell what tribe I might be from?”

    “To me, you look…Italian.”
