On a more sobering note.
WASHINGTON — Supporters of Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor are quietly targeting the Connecticut firefighter who’s at the center of Sotomayor’s most controversial ruling. On the eve of Sotomayor’s Senate confirmation hearing, her advocates have been urging journalists to scrutinize what one called the “troubled and litigious work history” of firefighter Frank Ricci. [...]
On Friday, citing in an e-mail “Frank Ricci’s troubled and litigious work history,” the liberal advocacy group People for the American Way [a George Soros funded leftist group ... ed.] drew reporters’ attention to Ricci’s past. Other advocates for Sotomayor have discreetly urged journalists to pursue similar story lines. [...]
No People for the American Way officials could be reached Friday to speak on the record about the press campaign. [...]
“Sotomayor and her panel colleagues were bound by long-standing precedent and federal law,” People for the American Way executive vice president Marge Baker said in a June statement. “They applied the law without regard to their personal views.”
Last month, however, the Supreme Court overturned the 2nd Circuit by 5-4.
“Once . . . employers have made clear their selection criteria, they may not then invalidate the test results, thus upsetting an employee’s legitimate expectation not to be judged on the basis of race,” Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote for the majority.
With his awards for bravery, some 17 years of fire department service and history of overcoming dyslexia, Ricci has become a compelling human character in the Sotomayor confirmation drama. Senate Republicans have summoned him, along with Lt. Ben Vargas of the New Haven Fire Department, as two of their 14 witnesses next week.

Love that photoshop job Darleen; and Che would be proud of Sonya too, I think…
It truly makes me want to go “postal” hearing that Soros through all of his various “activist” groups are overtly courting the media to go after Ricci, and try and paint him as litigious…
This from the same crowd that files harrassing ethics complaints against the likes of Palin, and proudly mau-maus into submission any that will not comply with their totalitarian, statist, groupthink, C ideology, and vision for an America of equal outcome…
Sotomayor has the “misfortune” of actually leaving a paper trail; too bad she wasn’t from Chicago, where such things disappear “conveniently”. But that same trail points to some inconvient truths about her personal beliefs, her past associations, and some stubborn facts regarding her history. And it doesn’t help her that in the law business, you write opinions, so those words don’t float away in the breeze, nor are they as easily walked back, as quotations of spoken statements…
No, as we used to say, “Her Battleship mouth has gotten her into a jam that her rowboat ass can’t back up”. And it doesn’t look like the MSM was going to come riding to the rescue like they did when Obama did the same vis-a-vis “Joe the Plumber”, an embarrasing moment for the press corps, the corrupt Ohio government officials who participated in Joe’s destruction, and our nation as a whole…
And now it look like the Soros machine would like to see the same thing Happen to Frank Ricci. They better tread lightly if they take the bait, because the public won’t as easily buy that same act twice…
Best Wishes

Clinton raised the politics of personal destruction to a high art! And the nutroots essentially did post-graduate work on it during the Booooosh! years; further refining the technique of making the political, personal…
But they will be the first to cry foul. Just like the racialist hypocrisy of identity politics and multi-culturalism is simply a cover under which the greatest race-baiters and racists operate…

Comment by Joe on 7/11 @ 1:57 pm #
This is a terrible strategy for supporters of Sonya Sotomayor because it will back fire on them. Firefighters are not easy to paint as bad guys.
Personally, I hope Sotomayor gets confirmed. Not because I like her, far from it, her decisions are a mess and disaster–but she is better than the alternatives in the wings (the most likely being Diane Woods). Obama has a lock on the process and barring a complete meltdown he is going to get his nominee confirmed.
The GOP needs to be careful not to make Sotomayor a Hispanic nominee getting grilled–the fact she is Puerto Rican is not an issue and in fact Sotomayor is far more self made than Obama is. While Sotomayor is not a cutting edge legal intellect, she grew up in project in the Bronx to parents who came from Puerto Rico, did get good grades in Catholic parochial schools, was encouraged by the nuns to go to Princeton where she did well, etc. Her legal opinions are flawed and wrong, but she is not a fool. The GOP needs to use these hearings to show what Sotomayor is all about (and show what Obama is all about and why he picked her).

Comment by SDN on 7/11 @ 2:26 pm #
Actually, the MSM didn’t come riding to the rescue; Joe the Plumber was smart enough to make himself so visible they couldn’t ignore him even though they wanted to. And that only worked because it was an election year.
Comment by Bob Reed on 7/11 @ 2:28 pm #
Joe,
The Supreme Court of the US just determined that she violated precedent, most likely Bakke-though I haven’t read the decision, both by assenting to race being the only factor in personell decisions as well as the fear that the municipality would be mau-maued by community groups.
She does have a good story, though I would hazard so do many of us here amongst the PW commentariat. Does a “good story” make each of us qualified as SCOTUS justices? Does a belief in minority exceptionalism, one that would disqualify her immediately if she were white, automatically qualify her for SCOTUS? The Democrats didn’t seem to fear any Hispanic backlash when they pulled their usual tactics on Gonzales and Estrada; did they suffer as a result if this? If Roberts belonged to any organization analogous to “La Raza” would he be sitting on the court right now? Boooooosh! had control of the process for 3/4 of his term, yet many of his appointments never even recieved a vote!
Many of the preceeding questions were rhetorical, and I’m not getting down on you personally Joe. I just feel that the RethugliKKKanz shouldn’t fear any hispanic backlash, as they can’t expect to get that vote in the first place; a much greater test is to come anyway when Obama brings up an amnesty provision. The hearings should be be excruciatingly thorough, and no questionable element of her past left un-examined publicly, so that not only does the public realize what they’re getting in Sotomayor, but so that Obama’s ideological beliefs, and political calculus of race, be better exposed to public scrutiny, since he has proffered her as mainstream and middle of the road…
I realize much more overtly partisan nominees are in the wings. But if Sotomayor essentially gets a free pass, how much easier will it be to portray them as “just a bit left” of her, when the next retirement comes…
Comment by meya on 7/11 @ 2:54 pm #
“Interesting time to question the time-honored tradition of pointless witnesses in Washington. ”
Oh you think this is “pointless”?
Comment by Joe on 7/11 @ 2:54 pm #
I agree with what you say Bob, and I am not suggesting she get a free pass. She should be grilled in a manner that is professional but very tough.
But Senate votes are votes, and the Dems have plenty. The reality is the GOP will ultimately lose this fight (even if the GOP managed to derail Sotomayor, it would likely alienate Hispanics and Obama would nominate Diane Wood who is smarter, and even worse on policy). If I thought the back up alternatives were better than Sotomayor, then I would say go for it, but they are not, they are worse.
Comment by Joe on 7/11 @ 2:55 pm #
I 100% agree with you on this: The hearings should be be excruciatingly thorough, and no questionable element of her past left un-examined publicly, so that not only does the public realize what they’re getting in Sotomayor, but so that Obama’s ideological beliefs, and political calculus of race, be better exposed to public scrutiny, since he has proffered her as mainstream and middle of the road…

24Ahead,
There is essentially no pushback available at PFAW, Mr. Soros and zealous progressives write the checks to fund them, and they are completely on board with getting Sotomayor confirmed, “by any means necessary”…
I assume you were alluding to your strategy of a letter writing campaign. I suugest that will come to pass if and when they attempt to slime Ricci with the “litigious” label…
As for Obama’s underlying communism? The more the public becomes dissatisfied with him, his policies, and administration the whole communist thing will be able to be recycled; and this time it will have more traction, since he will have demonstrated what could only be alluded to and speculated in advance…

I think your manner of trolling is pointless. Long before you got your University of Phoenix law degree congressional committees were soliciting testimony for all manner of reasons ranging from a direct bearing on a nominee to tangential theater. So yes, it is “pointless” if I take the cue of a disingenuous twit who asks what “we’re” going to learn about Sotomayor by having him testify again. But that is a separate matter from whether or not it is pointless with regard to the actual “purpose” of having him testify. Do you understand now? Considering her confirmation is a fait accompli it is good to put a face (Ricci) on Sotomayor’s race-based convictions. Own it, lefties. These are your values. Never mind that whenever it is put to the people they tell you to stick it. It isn’t healthy to be stealthy (channeling my inner Jesse there).
I mean, so what if liberal California votes against gay marriage. So what if the Democrat president campaigns in opposition to it. Let’s go after a young girl in a beauty pageant who when asked expresses the same opinion and have a Hitler-mustached pudgy beta male Obamoid like David Axelrod call her, of all things, a dog. Because implicit in this, like in the case of affirmative action, is that the left doesn’t really have the courage of their convictions when it isn’t politically useful because it is easier to tell the people to go fuck themselves under the protective cover of the judiciary.
Own your beliefs. And I don’t mean on Kos or in the dark recesses of the Pandagon cesspool.

Comment by Have Blue on 7/12 @ 12:05 am #
Is cynn really “She who must not be Named” (SWMNBN). Pointless accusations of comments being “actionable” (what ever that means in their tiny little intellects) is a standard recognition sign. Overall she is slightly less incoherent.
I think she misread Big D. Cynn what Big D was saying is that Sotomayer has NOT rounded up political opponents and had them shot and that that is a good thing. Possibly the only good thing you can point to in this nominee but still a good thing.
Of course that will anger all of the Che fans in the Obama ranks, (those that had his poster and Cuban flags with his portrait on them in his campaign offices).
Comment by Big D on 7/12 @ 12:12 am #
Cynn,
The comment Joe made earlier was that Sotamayor was not Che. I was simply stating that Che had rounded up people and had them executed, the judge had not. If that was the point he was making I yield the point.
Cynn, what the hell is wrong with you? You are not normally this whacked.
Comment by Challeron on 7/12 @ 12:27 am #
Big D, cynn is just frustrated, because it’s no longer possible even for the Kool-Aid Drinkers to deny that The O! isn’t what they’d convinced themselves that they were voting for.
Thus, more wild-ass accusations to try to cover their own shame (what little of it they have), such as suggesting that a misunderstood comment (recall: They’re all about Redefining Meaning) can be legally “actionable” (a word they recently heard from Palin’s attorney) in slandering an anonymous entity (I don’t think the O!bots understand either word). But you’ve got to cut her a little slack: Cynn thinks that tort reform means Not Burning Your Toaster Pastry….
Just my opinion, of course; and, legally, Everyone’s Entitled To Their Opinion….
Comment by Big D on 7/12 @ 12:34 am #
I don’t know why I went to the trouble to explain myself to cynn. The entire point of this site is language and the meaning thereof. Apparently cynn missed the class.
Cynn, you bloody well know what I meant and you purposely misconstrued my comments to further your own personal agenda. Not only that, but you have insinuated that there is legal action forthcoming. I call, cynn.
To quote another commenter here, “That is a lie and you are a liar.”

That is what the Ricci case is really about as far as the hearings and the Supreme Court ruling is concerned.

Serr8d, heads exploding? Let’s just say yes, but not the head you are thinking of. I never thought this would happen to me, but I got a recent personal visit from Pam Geller.
Ms. Geller knocked at my door unexpectedly. She invited herself in, shut the door behind her, then locked it and pulled down the shade. She then came to stand in front of me as I sat in my chair. “Now, Charles,” she said, “the first thing we have to do is to clear the air between us. All year I have watched you trying to call me a Nazi and worse when you are really wanting to stare at my bountiful breasts, or trying to see my panties. I have let you get a glimpse of them every so often, just to keep you happy, and I will admit it made me feel good to see how I could turn on the big biking pony tailed blog stud. Yes, I saw you trying to cover up the hard-ons I gave you.” I was too embarrassed to say anything, but I was also getting turned on, wondering where this was going. “But, Charles,” she went on, “this game-playing has caused both of us to forget what we are all about. You have stopped concentrating on fighting Islamofacist terror, and I partially blame myself for letting this game go on so long. But for the next four weeks we will stop playing games. I know you are capable of doing better work. I also know that sometimes it is much easier to accomplish something if you have a goal to shoot for–just like in competative biking. Your goal should be protecting western civilization, but now I’m going to give you an additional one. Charles, if you change the direction of your blog, which I know you can do, this will be your trophy from me.”
And with that she pulled up her shirt and I looked at two…
But I have to stop there. Gentlemen do not talk out of class.

FTA: On the eve of Sotomayor’s Senate confirmation hearing, her advocates have been urging journalists to scrutinize what one called the “troubled and litigious work history” of firefighter Frank Ricci. [...]
It seems clear to me the the person being threatened here is Mr Ricci YMMV
and would you mind not tracking the evidence of a poor upbinging on our carpet, Thanks
Comment by Pablo on 7/12 @ 3:41 pm #
Who do you feel threatened by, somenobody? A woman who has actually worked for a living and achieved success?
Comment by Pablo on 7/12 @ 3:42 pm #
Danger, they letting you guys have enough hair to flip these days?
Comment by Danger on 7/12 @ 3:46 pm #

Nope,
Uncle Sam issues just enough to facillitate the early enemy warning radar (mostly neck hair;)

Oh I use anonymity software for all the standard reasons.
Translation: you’re a cowardly little troll. And a dumb one, if you think your “anonymity” software provides you with any real protection. It’s like the goofballs who think that using PGP was some kind of protection against TEH EVUL BUSH REGIME. Never occurs to ‘em that a real EVUL REGIME would simply break fingers until they coughed up the key.
Now did we ever figure out how old you were?
Did we ever figure out if you’d ever made an honest post?
Oh, right: we did. And the answer is negative.
Comment by SBP on 7/12 @ 4:11 pm #
woman who has actually works for a living
Evidence for this? Because going by her appellate record, she simply makes up a bunch of bullshit and then takes the rest of the day off.
Comment by Danger on 7/12 @ 4:13 pm #
Hey SBP,
Watch out for the “I know you are but what am I” counterpunch
It is a common tactic of these southpaws
Comment by SBP on 7/12 @ 4:16 pm #
Oh, I noticed that SFAG didn’t actually answer the question, Danger.
I just like watching her flail.
Comment by Danger on 7/12 @ 4:22 pm #
Thats good because forced flailing is one of the approved methods listed in the Army Field Manual;)
Comment by Abe Froman on 7/12 @ 4:33 pm #

Yeah. You’re a regular puzzle wrapped in a riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a used condom.
Comment by SBP on 7/12 @ 4:39 pm #
Actually just about anyone into security would indeed know that attack on encryption.
Actually, anyone with enough sense to pour piss out of a boot would know about that “attack on encryption”.
Still not answering my question, SFAG.
Why are you scared shitless of the people on here?
Comment by SBP on 7/12 @ 4:40 pm #
Actually, anyone with enough sense to pour piss out of a boot
Which, not to put too fine a point on it, excludes about 99.5% of the “Internet security experts” out there.
Including Bruce Schneier.

Comment by Big D on 7/12 @ 8:41 pm #
“Somenobody” sums it up nicely. You are nobody. In fact, you would not make a pimple on a good private’s ass.
Danger is over there doing a job that would make you cower under your bunk. Come back here when you have something to say. Otherwise, STFU.
Comment by meya on 7/12 @ 8:50 pm #
“Including Bruce Schneier.”
You know, if your view of anonymity is limited to crap like this:
“Why are you scared shitless of the people on here?”
its not going to be fun talking security with you.
Comment by somenobody on 7/12 @ 9:16 pm #
Some asshole whackjob in the military doesn’t really impress me. Sorry, bucko.
Maybe you’d be better off if you didn’t bow before some jerkoff saying “splash one” in political talk on the internet. Cause it looks stupid as shit.
Comment by B Moe on 7/12 @ 9:28 pm #
Is 243 and 244 supposed to be coherent English communication?
Comment by Bob Reed on 7/12 @ 9:31 pm #
You’re really an ungrateful piece of…work, somenobody…
Why don’t you take your bad attitude and go on back to /b/chan…
Don’t go away mad, just, well, you know…
Comment by Bob Reed on 7/12 @ 9:34 pm #
Oh, and for your info somenobody, Danger is a former Naval Aviator, among whom “splash one” has a definitive meaning that is exactly analogous to the context it was used in…
Look it up somewhere, ruminate over it, you get it…eventually…
Comment by somenobody on 7/12 @ 9:35 pm #
Should I pepper my posts with military jargon? Would that give you a woody?

same for you as other trolls, stay on topic and refrain from ad hominems - especially against the military commenters or anyone’s family or I will delete your comment on my threads.
I’m tired of the threadjacking. I understand you and the other Obama-and-or-Leftist-Statist cult members want to distract from the Transforming of America(tm) but either argue facts (ha!) or get lost.
Only warning.

At least somenobody practices truth in advertising.

You don’t know jack shit about “security”, SFAG.
Or any other subject, as far as I can tell.
You’re still under the impression that I’m interested in having a “discussion”, “debate”, or “conversation” with you.
I’m not.
All I want to do is point out your lies for the benefit of others.
And yes, you’re fucking scared shitless.
Comment by SBP on 7/12 @ 10:40 pm #
For the benefit of non-SFAG readers, Mr. Schneier is a crypto guy who’s under the impression that that gives him expertise in other areas of security (e.g., physical airport security).
Classic arrogant wackademic.
Here’s a choice quote:
“There are two kinds of cryptography in this world: cryptography that will stop your kid sister from reading your files, and cryptography that will stop major governments from reading your files.”
Left unstated: “As long as said ‘major government’ is a free country that isn’t willing to apply a cattle prod to your testicles to get you to fork over the key”.
Comment by SBP on 7/12 @ 10:41 pm #
Oh, and SFAG: I wouldn’t count on that ‘anonymity’ thing.
Just because you read about it in WIRED doesn’t make it true.
Sorry to break the news to you.

Trump what? It’s very simple. You picked on the dude and then you find out he gets it. Get over yourself. Even that boingboing guy — cory doctorow — had someone in his teen novel being waterboarded for a password. This isn’t some exclusive club you’re in where you pantsed bruce schneier.

Your mendacity, SFAG.

“STFU, amateur.”
That’s the point. Even amateurs know of this attack. Some travelers too: you follow the laptop border search issue? There was talk in there of how this could defeat your encryption.
