Obligatory wandering dick post [Darleen Click]

Well well, looks like the kerfuffle is now the Lurid Sex Scandal kerfuffle.

::::Sigh::::

Gary Hart, Bill Clinton, John Edwards, Elliott Spitzer, Rudy Giuliani, John Ensign, Antonio Villaraigosa, James McGreevey, Gavin Newsom … yadda, yadda, yadda. How many times do we have to sit through this play?

Act I
Politician runs for office, smiling wife and family in tow – wins and acquires power
Act II
Politician starts thinking he is different, feels like a rock star, begins/continues affair(s)
Tabloids discover affairs
Act III
Politician gives weepy and/or apologetic press conference.

What would be different? If the politician had realized his sin, stopped it and repaired his relationships before the paparazzi discovered anything.

I feel sorry for Jenny Sanford, but at least she had the spine (hello? Hillary? Elizabeth?) to kick Mark out of the house. That should have made his big head take back control. That may have given him a chance to repair his marriage and save his family.

Power corrupts because of the temptations it offers. Sanford’s allowing himself to cheat on his wife is just another example of allowing feelings to excuse bad behavior as was previously debated.

Sanford may indeed love his wife, but in marriage love isn’t the most important thing, it is trust. This is why all the handwringing when he first “disappeared” didn’t concern me at all. I gave the Sanfords the benefit of a doubt that if Jenny wasn’t concerned then no one should be concerned.

Love can ebb and flow in a marriage, but if trust is betrayed it is rarely recovered.

I am sorry for the Sanfords, especially for the boys who will grow up to always read about this incident any time they read a bio of their dad. However, I’m really pissed off at the politician Mark Sanford for giving the Obama-ankle-licking reporters a great excuse not to cover seriously damaging policies Obama is trying to ram through before the public gets to find out about them.

As long as we put our political faith in people instead of principles, we will be disappointed.

But just this morning, according to you, Darleen, Mark Sanford was merely being a manly man and husband to an awesome media disrespecting wife.

    Hahaha.

You’re always so big fat wrong.

Darleen, I agree to a certain extent that the Sanford story is distracting from the discussion of Obama’s policies, but then again the Ensign story faded quickly and this one might too. Oh, we’ll hear about it on Bill Maher’s show for a week or two but the interesting part of this was, where’s the gov? Now he’s back, we know why, so so what? And a real massacre in Iran is real competition for the front page — if it bleeds, it leads, right?

I just hope all those Republican office holders who can’t keep it zipped are all outed or caught or whatever in this calendar year, so the elections of 2010 don’t swing on their dicks but on trying to keep the USA from getting screwed.

  19. Comment by Bob Reed on 6/24 @ 7:58 pm #

I won’t try to defend Sanford; what he did is indefensible. Especially since he used his staff, even of unwittingly, as cover for his dalliances…

What’s fascinating is how his wife, Jenny, who asked him to leave two weeks earlier upon finding out about the affair, didn’t air their dirty laundry in public like a lesser person would have. She’s a classy lady, far more than it seems Sanford deserves, as this piece linked to by Mary Katherine Hamm…

    http://bit.ly/40ihw

I don’t understand why he did this, but will pray nonetheless that he put it all behind him and do the right thing and try to bring his family back together…

While Sanford is responsible for this mess there is another yet unseen villain in this drama. One of his political rivals made a conscious decision to betray him, and indeed has already begun leaking his e-mail correspondance with this Argentine lady to the press. This same person is probably the genesis of the breathless press inquisition as to Sanfords whereabouts over the fathers day weekend. And, they are also responsible for consciously ensuring the public embarrasment of not only Sanford, but his wife and family…

I’t the ungentlemanly nature of this employment of the politics of personal distruction that has me taken aback; especially so in the Palmetto state. If it had been one of his own, so to speak, it would be reasonable to assume that they might have told him in private how indiscreet this whole business was and counseled him as to the potential for a disastrous outcome…

But, in the way this has all been done in a way to not only permanently damage him, publicly, both in SC and nationally, betrays the hand of his political rivals…

Recall that Sanford was quite vocal in his opposition to Obama, the spendulus, and his policies in general. And Sanford was supposed to be a front running favorite for the RethugliKKKan nomination in 2012. Add into that Clyburns SC rivalry and dislike for Sanford. Also, recall how Clyburn threw his longtime allies, Billy Jeff and Hillz, under the bus at crucial time and played the race card in support of Obama in the 2008 campaign. Finally, remember how O!’s has ruined past opponents by airing their marital dirty laundry in public…

Again, while I’m no conspiratorially minded guy, there could be a “there” there. It’s not beyond imagination that, upon learning of the Governors pecadillos, Clyburn used his contacts in SC government to gain access to private e-mails[not his Government account, by the way] as well as gin up the media furor over “where in the world is Mark Sanford]. It’s not to great a reach to recognize tha politics of personal destruction as practiced by the party that invented it as “Borking” in the 80’s and raised it to a high art in the 90’s; the party that believes in the motto, “by any means necessary”…

And, in doing so eliminated a regional and national rival…

Now, none of this relieves Sanford of guilt; if he hadn’t been foolin’ around, there would have been nothing to catch him doing-he brought this on himself…

But who’s to say that it wasn’t in the interest of the SC Democrats, and indeed Obama himself, to help this scandal along…

I’d love to have the source of the e-mail leaks investigated. It probably won’t happen, but, who knows!, stranger things have happened…

I feel sorry for Jenny Sanford, but at least she had the spine … to kick Mark out of the house.

I think it’s heroic. And also she is being a good mom to those boys with this example and I hope Jenny demonstrates the good sense and follow-through to quietly take this Sanford person for all he’s worth.

    also, welcome back, Darleen.

Also, I just met J.D. and you can’t meet a nicer person and even at their most heroic these trashy Sanfords really don’t belong in the same comment as the one about how you can’t meet a nicer person than J.D.

It’s a fallen world, I’m noticing. And not just from being in Chicago… it’s a widespread and serious problem.

oh. I hear you Bob but this is one of those agree to disagree things and I will tell you why. “Last December, The State newspaper obtained emails between Gov. Mark Sanford and Maria, a woman in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Here’s some of them.”

Timing, timing, timing. Wasn’t it just a week ago that there was that poll showing him to be the up and coming guy for 2012? This is the same as the 2008 season, except earlier and faster, as Obama is wont to be. Start taking out Republicans, till there is only a McCain left.

    I hear you happyfeet…

But it does seem a lot like the Chicago way written all over this thing; and like geoffb noted, I question the timing

Sanford made himself vulnerable, but it does seem like someone wanted him out of the picture, not only as a serious 2012 player, but as one of Obama’s most outspoken and high-visibility critics…

Obama’s played dirty pool his whole short career in elected politics, it’s not only what Alinsky taught him, but it’s the Chicago way…

  28. Comment by bh on 6/24 @ 8:33 pm #

Hey, mentioned it geoffb earlier, but I’ll be in NY for the possible July meet-up in Chicago. Too bad, it’d be fun to meet some of you maniacs. On the plus side… I can be propositioned by another old hooker in yet another bad hotel bar? Doesn’t seem that plus side.

louchette, save me from old hookers in bad hotel bars. Please.

  29. Comment by happyfeet on 6/24 @ 8:39 pm #

oh. I agree there’s more to this story but I think also that even were it revealed that Mark Sanford had been honeypotted while George Soros waited outside in a car recording the whole thing, Mark Sanford would be no less a trashy trashy joke.

but my 2 cents say the timing is more related to that PMA thinger

There is no reason for the media to reprint the emails, Sanford has done the public confession thing. Whoever prints them is as indecent as Sanford because they are only humiliating Jenny and the boys in public.

  37. Comment by serr8d on 6/24 @ 9:15 pm #

Sanford’s quick resignation is the only way.

Mark Sanford is not just toast. He’s charcoal.

Oh, and Michelle (the good one) Malkin calls him a bastard.

I don’t see any hint of support for the bastard, anywhere atall.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the House vote on Cap and Trade (H.R. 2454) quietly moves forward. Tonight’s ABC-Obama love fest re: ‘Health Care’, served up as a distraction from C & T, was wasted, wasted. Obama is likely furious. You always take advantage of a crisis; and you never waste a perfectly good distraction.

Don’t forget to call your reps tomorrow.

  38. Comment by Bob Reed on 6/24 @ 9:17 pm #

That’s part of what’s got me scratching my head Darleen…

While we may never know for sure, my intuition says that the source of the e-mails[inside SC government] and whomever drove the breathless media storm over his wherabouts, over a holiday weekend, are most certainly his rivals or operatives in their stead.

No excuse for Sanford, but had this been one of his “allies”, it might have been done more discreetly…

I’m starting to think that this was a convenient opportunity for another one of O!’s competitors and critics to be removed from the equation…

One of them was convicted, the other disgraced forever.

But, of course, this all gets back to which party has the most to lose by having one their “fiscon” heroes getting caught fucking his chippy while selfishly hanging his staff, family and the state of SC out to dry.

Because those moments of passion may be nice, but, alas moments are fleeting, and, well, cherche la femme may mean you’re high and dry anway eventually…

Better to stick with the one whose stuck with you, the mother of your children, the one you took the vows with before God and your family…

It’s an old story, like Icarus flying too close to the sun…

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed the company of many beautiful, and otherwise fine ladies. But once I took my vows? Fuhgeddabowdit

As long as you get the wink-wink nod-nod from your lady and as long as it’s 1000-miles away from home, fresh snapper keeps a man feeling young. Certain of the European women stock not only expect a man’s foibles, they see you as a fool if you don’t knock it out when you have the rare chance.

You are correct about that European cultural affectation. I know it used to drive some American women nuts to hear some of the French and Italian ladies characterize their husbands pecadillos with such a blase tone.

I won’t go as far as to say they all wanted, and expected it to happen, but they certainly didn’t seem to upset if it did. Indeed, in moments of pique I’ve heard Italian women tell their husbands to have their girlfriends fix their supper, and so on; I have to admit to being amused…

But, it’s not for me; I gave up the free love, multiple concurrent partners thing years ago…

I guess when I found one real good one, that was enough for me…

But, you know, I still look; just no touchee!

I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of the night’s light — but hey, that would be going into sexual details …

I don’t understand why he did this,

Well crap, I do. I’m a middle-aged man who at times in his 32 year marriage has felt I needed a soul mate like the one I had when my wife and I were in our twenties. I wanted to feel young and in love, and thank God the right set of circumstances didn’t arise to make that disaster happen. I’ve seen the consequences too often to think it would have been a good thing.

This kind of thing is as old as Baghdad. It’s only when it turns into serial sexual abuse — see Bill Clinton — that I perk up and go into full-bore condemnation.

I hope Sanford does not resign. That would be the easy way out.

  88. Comment by B Moe on 6/25 @ 5:28 am #

Here’s how it is, Bob, just because people view the world differently doesn’t mean they’re bad peeps.

How about being morally retarded fascists? Does that make them bad peeps?

And please notice the unity of message on the Kos thread, and the way the trolls see Sanford’s indiscretion as a failing of the Republican Party, not an individual. That is why they eschew principles or standards of decency, it is easier to protect and promote the hive mind that way.

I disagree with the notion that there is a special sort of temptation that goes along with being a politician.

Most men want to screw every woman on earth…twice. Its simply a byproduct of having balls. There is nothing immoral about that. The immorality comes in to play when you betray your family for the sake of getting laid.

I’m starting to think that this was a convenient opportunity for another one of O!’s competitors and critics to be removed from the equation…

This was a convenient opportunity to promote something other than Democrat fail to the front page. Consider: There isn’t a single major Democrat initiative succeeding right now (even with with the usual hordes of media lackeys and all powah in Dem hands). The polls are punishing the Dems in Congress and they’re punishing Obie. The entire Democrat ethic, such as it is, is in shambles. Let that sink in.

Folks, we’re living in interesting times. We’ve found our voices and we’re stopping socialism, at least to a degree and at least for the moment. That’s something quite unexpected.

They needs them some diversion and this stupid bastard just gave it them. Don’t help them. When you see serious, breathless Analysis™ on the failures of Republican core integrity because of Sanford and Ensign (the latter who is handily leading Dingy Harry in local polls) you know they’re playing desperation ball. That’s not news, that’s fluffy, unmitigated, diversionary bullshit churned out again and again by the alphabets even as their readership and viewership tanks. What’s left for them is sensationalizing what they’ve got left. This “issue” is enabled by our tabloid mentality.

So don’t do that. Sanford should resign. Clinton should have resigned. Half of Capitol Hill should resign. This isn’t about party, it’s about integrity. Sanford shouldn’t even be newsworthy outside his state but yet here we are, aren’t we? Why? Because we’re idiots lapping up partisan politics, consuming and feeding the American media’s lowest ebb yet, the one they found during the cheapest version of America we’ve ever seen.

You know, men like BarneyNancyHarryObie.

How long? How the heck long, thor. Because what I see is a trillion in new interest-bearing debt and pork stretching from, literally, Cambodia to Bermuda, and a dollar-fail column a mile wide and ten deep. Oh, and an American public favoring ending Obieconomics 47% to 33% wasn’t it? Six months in. That’s a half-year to you. Jeenus.

How long? Twelve months? How about ninety-six? Maybe after a hundred and twenty, when we’re by then a hundred into a new monetary system, maybe then we can look back and say that Obie-Keynesian economics was the miserable failure mid 2009 it was in 2012 when he was thrown out.

Sorta off topic- I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m dying to know what the mistress looks like. Argentian woman are some of the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met or seen. She would have to be something to throw away a career and a possible presidential future.

I wasn’t really keeping score, so is Sanford the second big time politico to go AWOL this week, or was there another in between?

“…….. By openly admitting to being philanderers, draft dodgers, liars, weasels and cowards, liberals avoid ever being hypocrites.”

But not tax cheats, because the left side doesn’t disclaim any moral ascendancy regarding tax patriotism. Hence that silence. Plus personal CO2 footprints.

Teen therapy programs are alternatives to help teenagers with behavioral or emotional problems, drug use and abuse, depression and withdrawal, hostility, and many more. The goal of therapy with adolescents is to help both the child and the parents understand why they act out with defiant, stubborn behavior and how they will recover from them.
