ABC’s Charles Gibson on questions about World News Tonight broadcasting from the White House Blue Room … [Darleen Click]

… You are all just being “silly.”

That was Gibson’s assessment of charges of ABC being “in the tank” for Obama while he was being interviewed this morning on KABC radio, Los Angeles, by Doug McIntyre. Gibson maintains that his news program is only broadcasting from the Blue Room because of convenience, making the subsequent “healthcare forum” he and Diane Sawyers will be “moderating” in the East Room easily accessible for him.

Oh yes, convenience.

Gibson further asserted that there would be 149 participants in the forum, from people in the pharmaceutical industry to “a couple of young doctors just starting out and possibly worried about rationing.” He stated he was sure they would have tough questions for Obama.

Yes, I’m sure, too, because like these 149 people were randomly chosen and never vetted for their views.

Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Related. Link to my blog (sorry) where I quote and link to a great article. Snippet:

It is hard to think of an example in US history in which the media organs of the world’s most important democracy so openly sacrificed the most basic responsibilities of news gatherers to act as shills for the chief executive. Franklin Delano Roosevelt enjoyed adoring media attention, but he also faced media pressures that compelled him to take actions he did not favor. The same was the case with John F. Kennedy.

You know what is the ONLY question I wanna hear asked. Which absolutely won’t.

Why are Federal employees going to be exempt from the whole health care dealo you guys are cooking up?

Of course, someone can dress it up so it sounds a tad more serious.

  3. Comment by JD on 6/23 @ 8:06 am #

I would find asshats like Gibson far more tolerable if they would not overtly lie to our faces.

  4. Comment by JD on 6/23 @ 8:11 am #

I would like someone to ask, given the White House saying that not all of the promises Teh One made in his speech to the AMA can be kept, which ones was he lying about?

Or, how the fuck do you plan on apying for this without taxing the holy hell out of everyone?

Or, can you please provide an example of the federal government providing a service more efficiently than the private sector, or an example where the federal government has had any modicum of success in delivering healthcare, or an example of the federal government controlling costs?

  5. Comment by Joe on 6/23 @ 8:12 am #

Carin, Federal Employees are exempt because their sweetheart deal is better. The animals are all equal, but some are more equal than others.

  6. Comment by Joe on 6/23 @ 8:13 am #

ABC management is more concerned about ratings than ideology, and Obama delivers ratings, but Gibson is definitely in the bag for Obama. It is propaganda, plain and simple.

    Puh-leeez,

They aren’t going to even allow groups that politically disagree with Obamacare to run advertisments during the Gibson, Sawyers, and Obama show. They aren’t going to allow rebuttal by those opposed to Obamacare following that variety show. And we’re supposed to believe that Obama will be asked “hard questions” by an audience that has been picked “at random”…

    Right…

And Obama’s Cairo speech has directly resulted in the uprising in Iran too!
    http://hotair.com/archives/2009/06/23/white-house-cairo-speech-inspired-the-iran-uprising/

They’re gonna stack the audience with shills; the Democrats have refined that practice into a fine art, just as they have the politics of personal destruction. Just as Billy Jeff,on CNN, managed to arrange it so George Stephanopolous was the first caller to ask big Bush an embarrasing question in the ‘92 camoaign, so too will the audince be filled with sops that arlready on the bandwagon…

Hell the only thing I wonder is if all of their “socratic” questions have been scripted so carefully as to allow O! to assume the proper llos of thoughtfullness and benevolence upon his countenance as he listens, and then bestows his words of wisdom on the proletariat…

Puh-leeeez, they admitted up front that they would brook no Dissent! at this performance, I mean, the issue is far to important to muddy the waters with inconvenient truths and stubborn facts…

  9. Comment by JD on 6/23 @ 8:29 am #

Bob – They are claiming credit for the uprising based on the Cairo speech, yet they refuse to take a strong stand and condemnation of the regime’s actions, for fear of being seen as meddling. The cognitive dissonance must be overwhelming.

We can’t be seen as interfering. Oh, and they’re having this uprising because of me. Check.

  13. Comment by Joe on 6/23 @ 9:14 am #

As Bob Reed notes above, the White House now claims that Obama’s Cairo speech prompted the protests in Iran!

Now how will Sullivan, self appointed White House apologist in chief, justify Obama’s silence on Iran when the White House is claiming they inspired the whole dissent process in Iran?

Somehow love will find a way.

Andrew Sullivan is to Barack Obama as Kathryn Jean Lopez is to Mitt Romney. The only difference is K-Lo is less fauning and less of a 12 year old girl with a crush.

    Sample hard questions.

“President Obama Your Majesty, just how great will the blessed ObamaCare be? Will it be truly magnificently great, absolutely wonderfully great or “Oh God I’ve just come in my panties” great?”

“Your Majesty, is it true that touching the hem of your robe will cure my scrofula? And can I? Please? Pretty Please?”

  18. Comment by Carin on 6/23 @ 9:34 am #

More “hard” questions (this could be fun)

  23. Comment by geoffb on 6/23 @ 9:56 am #

“Federal Employees are exempt because their sweetheart deal is better. The animals are all equal, but some are more equal than others.”

Having a better deal is not why they are exempt, that would make the case that “The Plan” should be to extend the Federal Employees deal to everyone.

They are exempt because to force them to take the “Obama Plan” would cost “The Party” their monetary support, their “get out the vote” efforts, and their votes. The lower levels of the new nomenklatura must be carefully watered at this critical time. Their total support is still necessary. Later they can be purged as needed to make way for the even more loyal up-and-comers.

Hot Air reports Mousavi was behind the Beruit Marine Baracks bombing. Mousavi is part of the Iranian Mullah regime. I assume he was in on Iranian crimes and terrorist acts just like most of the senior members of the Iranian government were in on such crimes and terrorist acts. So there was some element of truth that there is not that much difference between Mousavi and Ahmadinejad on underlying philosophy. Whether Mousavi refutes that radical past remains to be seen. I am not sure that is the case or not. My guess he is less radical than Ahmadinejad and what is interesting is the Mullahs, by doing this, have pushed Mousavi to be even less extremist. That might prove to be a good thing in the long run.

The better analogy (granted it is a very rough one) might be Mousavi is the Gorbachev of this change, and the Mullahs fear the Yeltsin that may follow. Both China and Iran saw what happened in Soviet Union when change was allowed to ferment.

Still, the Iranian democracy and reform movement is far broader than Mousavi.

  29. Comment by geoffb on 6/23 @ 11:44 am #

Because, like in the European political scene, there is no actual choice allowed that aligns with the aspirations of many, a handy hook must be found on which to hang the hat of revolt.

Mousavi is the hook but he is not the hat. The hat is to be worn the whole of those wishing to change the way of governance. The hook will not be needed once they put the hat on. And no this is not a reference to PJM in any manner.

I’m not sure how gravity works over in your reality. For y’all, things tend to fall up. Just the few I’ve witnessed:

    Dealergate is real.

A KKK member (today) is just as likely to vote for a Democrat as a Republican.

If Rush basically says, “If a Supreme court justice overturns Roe v. Wade because of religious beliefs, that’s just fine.” no one here sees anything wrong with that statement.

A religious lunatic shooting a Dr. and a religious lunatic shooting up a recruiting station are fundamentally different.

Consider this already done frequently, halfwit, just not in the current context: Consider thou Nationalized Progressive Radio. Wait, wait; don’t tell me — to know it is to be simultaneously chagrined and entertained.

Likewise, to know Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer is to be forewarned. That they have rigged the game concerns you not at all. This we know too.

  39. Comment by JD on 6/23 @ 12:30 pm #

alpuccino – On that one, sammah was quite right. One murder is worthy of wall-to-wall coverage for weeks on end, denouncing half the population of the US as terrorists. The other was not worth reporting on. One caused Teh One to be deeply troubled and required his immediate response. One made him sad, and he only responded after he began his trip to the Middle East, so no to offend some delicate sensibilities.
