Happy Father’s Day [Darleen Click]

To dads and stepdads and to grandpas and uncles stepping into the dad role, your dedication, commitment and sense of duty towards the great responsibility of fathering a child in the face of a contemporary culture that disdains your role is worthy of more than just one day of honor.

The irony of Celeb-in-Charge Obama being touted by CBS as the quintessential father while he is desperately trying to turn America into a land of perpetual children with a small allowance dependent on Daddy Government is not lost on those of us who take our parenting roles and the importance of families seriously.

So enjoy this day in any manner you wish. Enjoy the construction paper cards from your kids, the breakfast in bed they will try to make, the phone calls from the older ones that have left the nest and have discovered you have gotten smarter as they grew older. Laze around in your pjs all morning or did you get that early tee time? Maybe slab o’beef is on the evening menu, along with your adult beverage of choice and a dessert that will make you sigh in pleasure. What ever your plans, or no plan at all, enjoy in large gulps and know you are valued.

Happy Father’s Day!

Making beer is an excellent way to spend Father’s Day weekend.

Hey, I made my dad a construction paper card this year! What are the odds. I haven’t given him the painted rock and macaroni necklace, yet. I’m saving those for a surprise after lunch.

    Good times.

CBS is that network with the raping children jokes that Olive Garden likes to support so that is not where I think a father should go for the father’s day lunch because child rape isn’t funny you stupid filthy Olive Garden.

Special prayers this year for all fathers on what for me is a melancholy Fathers Day.

A Father’s Day post that brings to mind one of the special things my father taught me. The love and appreciation of manual labor. A good thing in and of itself.

This one sure is a lot better than last year. No insult to my friends around Basra intended, of course.

Jonah Goldberg’s eulogy at his father’s 2005 funeral is a nice tribute to fatherhood.

I’d also like to give a big shout-out to Our Host Jeff for his stay-at-home fatherhood, which is more than any little boy could want or need. The Kid is bound to grow up happy and secure, Jeff. Kudos and more kudos.

I never got around to being a dad, I think I stood in the wrong line or something. Over the years, however, my respect for all of you has grown as I have appreciated how much it takes. Somebody had to fill in for slackers like me. Good job! Props to all of you!

Haha. My fathers day gift was a new microwave for my wife and a new showerhead. I got a call from my oldest and the youngest baked me a cake. Any day I get an “I love you, dad.” is fathers day.

[...] Happy Father’s Day to my Dad, and in remembrance of George and Willie, my Grandfathers, and to all those who have in ways big and small, fathered me into manhood, which I now strive to pass on to my own two boys, the Lord willing, and my dear wife helping.  As Protein Wisdom puts it, [...]
