Gun Control Is a Reproductive Justice Issue [...]In casting the gun issue as a matter of individual rights and responsibilities, the gun lobby only fuels the criminalization and scapegoating of impoverished people of color, especially young men. Framing the issue this way has an unmistakable implication: better-off white people must know how to handle their guns responsibly, and low-income people of color must not–why else would there be so many more gun crimes and deaths in *those* neighborhoods? *Those* people got what was coming to them, didn’t they?
This framing of the gun issue prevents Americans from taking up the collective responsibilities we have too long failed: our collective responsibilities to structurally alleviate poverty, classism, and racism.
All that stands in the way of unicorns, rainbows, fluffy kitties and refrigerators magically filled with yummy, nutritious and never fattening foods is the dreadful Second Amendment! A cancer on the Living Constitution (oh, and the religion clause in the First Amendment, but we’re already working on that).

They don’t exactly. They operate in a different reality. It’s advantage is the ability to never have any responsibility for anything “bad” that happens.
So, cause a problem to happen, a crisis even. Since they are never to blame for anything it must be that “bad” conservative/republican/soc-con/theo-con, or whatever over there. They are to blame.
The wonderful solution is always more government power and control. Which ends in another problem, not their fault again, they are such cute little nubbins, wouldn’t hurt a fly. Repeat until the last spark of liberty and freedom has been extinguished.

That was one of the best Constitutional arguments against the income tax (that assessment requires a prohibited search). Didn’t work. Constitutional arguments don’t — against the government.

How embarrassing. Guns don’t kill people, drugs and drug gangs kill people.
My husband and I used to wait for it every time – you’d hear some horrible story … house shot-up, little kids killed. Everyone would be mortified. Then it would come out that the family/parents were drug dealers or something.
Bad things happen to stupid people. If you’re going to be a drug dealer, or date a drug dealer or whatever, DON’T HAVE CHILDREN. Keep YOUR CHILDREN AWAY.
That’s should be a mother’s message.

has spoken up about the gun industry’s conscious strategies for moving into the inner-city once it had saturated and achieved the maximum profit it could from the “sportsmen’s” market.
And, FTR, I don’t know of a single “gun store” in the city of Detroit. There may be some, but I’m sure they would be a huge target for crime, thus people wouldn’t really want to go into that business.

Last night I watched a bit of some Marxist agitprop called “Independent Lens” which concerned black gangs in Los Angeles. (As an aside, I have never understood how people from Los Angeles had so much to complain about. They all appear to live in what could be tidy little single houses. I grew up in a rowhome in Philadelphia, where surly and agitated is a function of living on top of one another and being all in each other’s business.) Of course, we needed historical perspective, so we flashed back to the 1940s, when there were manufacturing jobs in Los Angeles, which now there are not, I am told. Then, we had some unkempt, bearded Perfesser tell us that because one in four black men enter the penal system at one time – presumably for no good reason – we’re not allowing blacks to have families.
Then, and this is the kicker, we hear from “State Senator” Tom Hayden, who points the finger at “us” (by which he means, everybody but him and his buddies) for creating these gangs, and I say out loud, to my television, that this cocksucker is one of the leading agitators for turning society on its ear and encouraging drug use. I think he’s to blame for the conditions that led to this shit.

And Carin, I think there’s precisely one (1) gun shop left in the city of St. Louis, though there are likely individual FFL holders within the City. The rest are out in St. Louis, Jefferson and St. Charles Counties where the crime rate is a tiny fraction of the City’s. Maybe it makes more of a difference in whose hand the firearm rests.

What is so dishonest and sinister about this, is that if the “gun industry” perpetrated a conscious campaign not to sell their products in “those neighborhoods,” that would be evidence that the “gun industry” feeds the crypto-nazi white survivalist types preparing for some race war or something.
Also, my gunshop was founded in 1956, and the neighborhood changed around it. It was always inside Philadelphia, but I suppose now it is in the “inner-city” since the neighborhood isn’t exclusively white anymore.

I’ve bought two myself since January 20th.
The hard part these days is finding ammo. I haven’t seen a box of .357 for months, and except .22 and shotgun shells, I think I’ve bought out every other caliber I own in the three adjacent counties.

If guns are totally and 100% outlawed across the world, then only the Taliban and Al Queda and ttheir ilk will have guns. Then, what will we do? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
