Last Wednesday, Patterico pointed out more Obama hypocrisy

On the Barack Obama web site, in a section titled “Ethics” (stop snickering!), Obama made the following pledge during his campaign:

Sunlight Before Signing: Too often bills are rushed through Congress and to the president before the public has the opportunity to review them. As president, Obama will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.

Patterico then highlights two bills Obama signed that didn’t meet his own “promise” — the SCHIP expansion [aka the nose of the nationalized medicine camel] was signed within hours of coming out of the House of Representatives, and the Ledbetter [gift to trial lawyers] Act, signed by Obama within two days of passing Congress and not posted to the Whitehouse.gov site until after it was signed.

The Obama admin responds

This policy will be implemented in full soon; currently we are working through implementation procedures and some initial issues with the congressional calendar.

Soon. From the Most Tech-savvy Admin EVAH!!!. “Soon”, as in not one minute before Obama signs the latest incarnation of the Pork-o-rama being rammed through the Senate that the public has yet to even see.

The Sun Will Come Out … Tomorrow

Indeed.

Oh. I see where you and Mr. Patterico are coming from and it’s understandable but a bit dated. This is part of the Change. That’s all it is. I know in the past, presidents were held accountable for this sort of thing by the media, and a lot of people got kind of used to that. We don’t do that anymore. Get with the program you two.

    Just Words?

  3. Comment by Carin on 2/7 @ 1:16 pm #

They’re going to get to it SOON, you guys. What part of “soon” don’t you folks understand?

Cripes. He made a lot of promises. As if he could be expected to even remember them all…

  4. Comment by Sdferr on 2/7 @ 1:20 pm #

It’s weird, Bob, that of the cascade of Obama speeches over the last two years, that “Words? Just words?” bit sticks out so very well in memory. One of a tiny handful that are instantly recollectable in tone and delivery. Ack.

Don’t blame Obama, he tried the bi-partisan route.

To see full implementation of 0bama’s 2008 campaign promises, we just need to wait for his fourth term. Maybe his fifth.

    Yeah, right. Bi-partisan.

The size and waste of the stimulus means we won’t have much ammunition left. The spending will take the U.S. budget deficit up to some 12% of GDP, about double the peak of the 1980s and into uncharted territory. The tragedy of the Obama stimulus is that we are getting so little for all that money.*

The tragedy is that it’s on purpose I think.

  11. Comment by parsnip on 2/7 @ 1:35 pm #

    Happy,

Obama’s not trying to win the approval of you right wing extremists.

The rest of America is quite pleased with his performance so far…the Dow is even up 300 points since he took office.

  12. Comment by happyfeet on 2/7 @ 1:36 pm #

What kind of whore spends a trillion dollars for a 2% bump anyway? Egads. Wanton dirty socialist slut, your Baracky.

  13. Comment by parsnip on 2/7 @ 1:41 pm #

He’s a popular president trying to do what’s best for America.

Look on the bright side, the stimulus bill costs less than your guys’ Iraq disaster.

Don’t remember your kind squealing about cost when the money was being spent on Iraqis.

Why the sudden conversion to fiscal conservatism?

Oh, that’s right, Bush isn’t the one handing out the government money any more.

Could you guys be any more predictable?

    Nope.

the stimulus bill costs less than your guys’ Iraq disaster.

Hmmm… veggie of pallor not only misses Saddam and wishes he were still dictator, but lies about $800 billion Porkorama in one fell swoops vs $600 billion over fives years in an Iraq that just had a very successful exercise in democracy.

Veggie is anti-US-military anyway … he’d rather the US “endure” a few more 9/11’s than fund any kind of protection.

Why do you hate America, SBP?

Why do you and your leader Rush want America to fail?

  19. Comment by happyfeet on 2/7 @ 1:51 pm #

And that’s just Baracky getting started, Darleen. The 12% number for debt as a percent of GDP is figured as if Baracky and his dirty socialist cult say okay we’re done til next budget year. Nope. Baracky has only begun to spend.

  20. Comment by Spies, Brigands, and Pirates on 2/7 @ 1:51 pm #

Why do you and your leader Rush want America to fail?

    1) As far as I know, I’ve never listened to an entire Rush Limbaugh program.

    2) I don’t want America to fail. That would be your side, nipply.

Back in the bin you go, liebot.

  21. Comment by Bob Reed on 2/7 @ 2:04 pm #

    Sdferr,
That’s because of the inherent hypocrisy it drips with…

As being confirmed every day since January 20…

  22. Comment by cynn on 2/7 @ 2:06 pm #

It’s not Obama that is pissing away these billions. It’s the morons in Congress who are larding it up. I think a temporary extension of social benefits is a good provision, and immediate investment on infrastructure is essential, but more substantial tax cuts would have much greater impact than three-quarters of the worthless crap both sides are proposing. And I’m no fan of tax cuts.

I also reluctantly agree with those critics who argue that too much of this stimulus addresses a long-term social agenda. All that should be completely stripped out and taken up in more stable times.

  23. Comment by Carin on 2/7 @ 2:08 pm #

Don’t blame Obama, he tried the bi-partisan route.

He did? I must have missed it.

  24. Comment by Sdferr on 2/7 @ 2:10 pm #

But cynn, wouldn’t Pres. Obama have to insist by way of a veto threat that he won’t accept what you would otherwise blame on the Congress in order to justify your claim that it’s not him that’s doing this, or not his responsibility? Not to mention the now forgone possibility that his White House could have written and submitted his own version of a bill?

  25. Comment by Carin on 2/7 @ 2:12 pm #

Why do you and your leader Rush want America to fail

You know, Snippy does one thing well. He sure knows how to memorize and repeat the talking points he learns. Stay FOCUSED on Rush, Snippy. W/o him, the entire conservative movement will be rudderless.

  26. Comment by Spies, Brigands, and Pirates on 2/7 @ 2:13 pm #

That would require him to have a spine, which he doesn’t.

I don’t want America to fail.

    Of course you do, SBP.

    Just admit it.

How else will your discredited beliefs make a comeback?

You don’t really want Obama to fix what the Republicans broke, do you?

  28. Comment by Spies, Brigands, and Pirates on 2/7 @ 2:19 pm #

I once had someone accuse me of “worshiping” Sean Hannity, and I had to look up who the hell he was.

I don’t listen to talk radio, and very rarely watch the talking-head shows on TV.

Nipply, if you’re still out there: some of us take our philosophy from people like Milton Friedman and John Locke, not from some idiot on the babblebox.

But hey, enjoy Plastic Jesus while he lasts. Pretty soon, you’re going to be feeling like a 10 year old girl who just found out that her teen idol crush is gay.

Husband owns a small business (you know, those types of joints that make up 70% of American jobs) … his clients (more small businessmen) are having trouble paying us. Exactly what aspect of Pelosi’s plan is going to help us from losing the business, then losing our home?

Because, most business people are scared shitless of what he’s doing.

The Green shit isn’t gonna help. Neither are those funds targetted at refitting the federal auto fleet with hybrids. Or, that frisbee park in California.

Obama hasn’t indicated he wants anything less that the pork-laden Democrat wishlist. If it helps him move the Federal government as the primary “partner” in every citizen’s life and HE gets to run it all, then Bamie’s pen is itching to sign this bill into law before the hoi poloi get a good look at it.

And he’s getting downright hysterical that “I won” hasn’t cowed fiscal conservatives into dropping to their knees and servicing him as the MSM is still struggling to do.

Of course, nipply was lying through his teeth about Barky taking a jump in popularity.

oday’s numbers reflect a decline for the President since inauguration day. In the first set of interviews conducted after Obama became the nation’s President, 45% Strongly Approved of his performance while 16% Strongly Disapproved for a Presidential Approval Index rating of +29.

Following a week in which the partisan divide in Washington heated up, the number of Republicans who Strongly Approve of the President slipped to single digits—9% now, down from12% a week ago. Slippage among Democrats was even more dramatic, from 76% a week ago to 64% today.

As for those not affiliated with either major political party, 29% now Strongly Approve of the President and 24% Strongly Disapprove. A week ago, those figures were 41% Strongly Approve and 27% Strongly Disapprove.

    He’s cratering. Big time.

    Missed the paste. Today’s numbers:

37% of the nation’s voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing as President.

Down from 45% right after the inauguration.

Republicans: 9%, down from 12% a week ago.

Independents: 29%, down from 41% a week ago.

Democrats: 64%, down from 76% a week ago.

Ummm, no. Obama’s idea of “bi-partisan” is “left…and lefter.” And Obama didn’t “try” anything–Pelosi, Frank, Reid, et. al. have been running the show on the “porkulus package.” His Majesty’s “leadership,” to date, looks more like Jimmy Carter’s “Rose Garden Strategy” than anything else. And that was a real winner, wasn’t it?

“Why do you and your leader Rush want America to fail?”

You’ve just proven that you don’t listen to Rush (except through the buffer of the HuffPo, etc.). Rush has repeatedly stated, “I want America to SUCCEED. However, I want Obama to FAIL.” Failure for Obama’s brand of Ivy League ignorance will definitely be a good thing for this country.

I see big gains for the GOP in the House and possibly the Senate in 2010 if Obama continues on this path — seems to be making the same types of mistakes that Bill Clinton did at the beginning of his first term when the Dems controlled congress…pander to the left, have some token GOP input, then watch the voter backlash and act surprised.

  64. Comment by Mark Turner on 2/7 @ 5:41 pm #

…and the current economic mess is not solely the fault of the Bush administration/GOP…subprime lending – a major root cause of the current financial crisis – was championed by Democrats. The “too big to fail or let fail” attitude on Wall Street and big business has been a problem for decades.

Obama needs to take a two-by-four to the rethuglidums. He can’t break you down to nothing (as in you’re not much now). Reaganomics was built on lies. The KKult has to be destroyed.

You’ve read what I’ve written. Re-build our manufacturing base, re-write corporate law so that management is actually responsible to the shareholders they serve, regulate Wall Street until its focus is on capital formation and restrict prison-labor wage imports.

And what the fuck does any of that have to do with family owned business like Carin is talking about? Yeah, I’ve read the same generic fucking little boilerplate you spout when you get serious, the same fucking shit no matter what is being discussed. What I want to know is how you call letting a self-employed contractor keep enough of his profits to keep a business afloat and growing a fucking bail-out. That is so goddamn retarded it completely disqualifies anything else you will ever post on here. Why does the government deserve more of Carin’s husbands profits than he does? It is a simple question you have been asked repeatedly and everytime you either start with the insults or duck behind your superior understanding of the rules and regulations.

Fuck the rules and regulations. A man deserves the fruits of his own labor. You and your little butt boy Obama are fucking thieves. Own it.

A managed economy worked so well for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. So well that it collapsed economically. Nevermind – it will work this time because President Obama said so.

Perhaps this time around we just need to have a better population. New Soviet Man, anyone?
