Comment by Jaime on 1/31 @ 3:34 am #
Poor little Wall Street bankers, just look at how contrite they are on their itty bitty piggy. Why shouldn’t Citigroup get to buy their $42 million corporate jet they had on order? Why shouldn’t the CEO of a failed bank spend $1 million to redecorate his office? Where are we? Is this Russia? Without those bonuses I’ll bet that many CEOs won’t be able to make their mortgage payment on their third home in Davos or Vail, or their fourth favorite mistress may have to wait for her boob job. I don’t know about you people but I can’t live with that on my conscience. We should give all of the bailout money to rich people and wait until it trickles down to us in the form of landscaping jobs and pool maintenance.
Comment by JHoward on 1/31 @ 6:40 am #
That’s cute, Jamie. Citing the Constitution’s Jealousy Clause again, are we? Not that you need it: As nouveau-majority, just take what you want. “Theft” is so passe.
If you’re a Democrat/O!Bama appointee, so is paying your taxes. Double win.
Comment by Carin on 1/31 @ 6:48 am #
Jamie, to make it Russia, we’d have to have the government decide what everyone makes. Bankers make too much money and they are bad.
Actors, Atheletes, and Bruce Stringsteen? No, what they make is just fine. Why do you think we never hear a peep about someone making 20 million to make a movie?
Humn … I’m gonna really have to think long and hard about this.
Comment by Jaime on 1/31 @ 7:09 am #
I’m not crazy about anyone making $20 million a year. The pie is only so big. When are people going to realize this? I love how middle class slobs defend the hyper-rich, as if you are all only a lottery ticket, a tax cut, or a promotion away from buying a yacht or a private jet.
Funny how none of you complained when we basically built a pipeline of tax dollars to Iraq and Afghanistan and lost two wars at the same time (and please don’t say we won in Iraq-what did we “win?”), yet an economic stimulus package is a waste of our taxes. And, of course, none of this crisis can be blamed on the former White House resident.
As far as cabinet members behaving badly, I won’t support any criminals. If the man is guilty then let’s throw him in jail. As far as I can tell, no party has a monopoly on sleaze. I think we should agree on this.
Comment by B Moe on 1/31 @ 7:21 am #
The pie is only so big. When are people going to realize this?
You are an idiot, Jaime. Leave before you get hurt, son.
Comment by Rusty on 1/31 @ 7:26 am #
Moe. You mean he’s serious? Oh, my. What a horrible waste of education dollars.
Comment by Carin on 1/31 @ 7:36 am #
Jamie, I think you need to stand up and DEMAND that Hollywood, athletes, and pop stars put a cap on their salaries.
Who know who else has unseemly sums of money? Nancy Pelosi. Get ON IT!
Comment by Jaime on 1/31 @ 7:37 am #
B Moe: Where wit and reason go to die. The original internet tough guy.
Comment by Carin on 1/31 @ 7:38 am #
Al Gore seems to have exceeded his “fair share” as well. Jamie, I just want you to know I am SO TOTALLY with you. I think it should be easier to start limiting the income of those on the left FIRST since they’re the ones advocating it. Once they lead the way, I feel confident the right will follow.
WE’RE RIGHT BEHIND YOU! POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
Comment by Jaime on 1/31 @ 7:45 am #
It’s not capping salaries, it’s a progressive income tax. We used to have it before Reagan and we were better off for it. How can it be healthy for any democracies to have .1% of the population control a vast amount of the nation’s wealth? Think long and hard about that one.
Comment by Carin on 1/31 @ 7:47 am #
No, you started out by saying some people made too much money … I’m confused. So, it’s ok for people to make a lot of money, but we need to be able to take away most of it?
Comment by Carin on 1/31 @ 7:49 am #
And, called me confused, but don’t we still have a progressive tax?
Let’s be honest. You want to redistribute income in a more fair way.
Comment by Rusty on 1/31 @ 7:56 am #
#10
You’re serious!!I just reads like a parody. My mistake.
Jamie. Can I ask you a question? Where does wealth come from?
Comment by B Moe on 1/31 @ 7:57 am #
Do you believe in a zero sum economy, Jaime? Is that what you mean by “The pie is only so big”?
Because if you do we need to go ahead and start by explaining the creation of wealth do you, so you will understand that most wealth isn’t “controlled” by the wealthy it is created by them.
Comment by B Moe on 1/31 @ 7:58 am #
I’ll let Rusty handle it, I got to go to work for awhile, steal some wealth from some unsuspecting bulldozer operator, hopefully.
Comment by B Moe on 1/31 @ 8:05 am #
One last thing, Jaime: How can it be healthy for the very best farmers to control the vast majority of the seed corn. Think long and hard on that one.
Comment by Carin on 1/31 @ 8:14 am #
Sigh. I think we scared him away. Pity.
Comment by Carin on 1/31 @ 8:15 am #
One last bit – we were better off before Reagan? Those Carter years were FABULOUS!
It’s a shame we didn’t have poor folk until Reagan …. golden age it was.
Comment by McGehee on 1/31 @ 8:25 am #
Jaime, I TrollHammered you, but it’s nothing personal. It’s just too early in the morning where I am, to watch the damnfool you were making of yourself.
But really, I welcome our new damnfool overlords such as yourself.
Comment by AKA Pablo on 1/31 @ 8:29 am #
An ally that’s doing this today. Smack in the middle of what’s long been the world’s political cesspool.

Bush granted the 350 Bazillion with no strings attached.
Any BK Trustee worth his salt would have gone in and invalidated
those mindless ‘Bonus’ contracts the Industry claims obliged them to pay.
Whatever happened to ‘Performance’ bonuses? Aren’t they designed as
a form of commission based on profitability?
Oh yeah. I forgot most of these Institutions were DERGULATION babies.

Obama’s pig in the right should be ten times larger.
Don’t damn them with faint praise: the Dems have a decided edge on sleaze.
Leo: I have yet to figure out what you use your brain for; you must have it confused with something else.

Jaime,
Didn’t you hear your dark lord Obama say that the economy is not a zero sum game..?
Sounds to me like he’s sayin’ there’s plenty of pie…

This Jaimie guy is a riot. I was not aware that we had eliminated the progressive income tax. A good example is probably my tax bracket and Jaimies.
In other news, I see that the republicans have just elected their FIRST EVER black RNC chairman. Yea.
The democrats had one once, but they killed him.

You know, if the MSM would do their job and actually report this stuff, the shadenfreude would taste as light, dry, and fruity an a Sardinian rosato…
I mean, here we have the guy who promised that there would be NO lobbyists in his government, and indeed that he would change Washington fundamentally by disempowering those eeeeeeeeevil lobbyists!…
And what about the whole, “‘We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times … and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK,’ Obama said“…
And then he turns up the whitehouse thermostat to greenhouse levels…
“He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there…”
JUST WORDS!
Man, sometimes I don’t know whether to laugh or cry over this stuff. MAObama is a riot with all of his self-serving, self-righteous, hypocrisy. Where that little shit Jon Stew3art? I mean, it doesn’t get any better than this, or him walking into a faux door, what great comedy material…
And where’s that bee-otch Chrytia Freeland who states that the axiomatic reason that RethugliKKKans get worse media treatment is due to “The Hypocrisy!”; well it looks loke Glibama is providing plenty of that in the forst two weeks alone…
Ethics!, Integrity!, Honesty!, Transparency!, Character!, Post-Partisan!, Unifying!, New Kind of Politics!…
O!
Comment by donald on 1/31 @ 9:18 am #
Uh, Cleo, the difference between Obama’s political pay off program, and Bush’s bailout program is that the plan for the Bush bail out program is that the taxpayer funds taken from actual tax payers at the point of a gun will be repaid at some point with interest. The point of Obama’s political pay off program is that that tax payer funds extracted from actual tax payers will be distributed to organizations that will increase democratic voters and destroy the country at the same time. A twofer as it were. Fuck you, and the rest of you communist ilk.
Well, gotta go, training new umpires today on field etiquette. I’m a people person and all.
Comment by donald on 1/31 @ 9:21 am #
Whoops! Of course the Obama plan will also take hard earned actual tax payers money at the point of a gun. That is a very important fact that we all need to be aware of. Actually the single most important fact to me.

Comment by B Moe on 1/31 @ 9:53 am #
Whatever happened to ‘Performance’ bonuses? Aren’t they designed as
a form of commission based on profitability?
Not always profitability, ‘cleo. Say you owned a chain of stores, say the market takes a big crap for a quarter, say all of your stores lost $100k that quarter. Except one, because the store manager was on the ball and only lost 20k. Would you think about maybe rewarding that manager for saving you $80k in potential loses?
Comment by happyfeet on 1/31 @ 10:06 am #
I’m not sure you need logic, B Moe. Baracky is just a class-warfare demagogue what wants people to hate on people so they in turn develop their own sense of entitlement more better so Baracky can use it to manipulate them. Jaime is exceptionally well-conditioned. Baracky’s just… he’s just a fuckhead like that. It pains me to say it, but there it is.
Comment by Semanticleo on 1/31 @ 10:07 am #
“Would you think about maybe rewarding that manager for saving you $80k in potential loses?”
Incentive Compensation is based upon meeting objectives during the fiscal year. They are weighted according to impact on budget and/or profitability. I am not aware of IC which rewards losses, even for those managers who presided over the lowest tier of losses in the category.

Shorter Obama: Do not be scared during this financial downturn. I will continue working on the real priority of promoting a permanent Democrat majority instead of helping you. Rest easy at night though children, knowing that at least I will be able to get free condoms from my huge “stimulus” bill so you will know that as I continue to fuck over the American Taxpayer that at least it will be safe sex. I promise to pull out though so you can enjoy the CHANGE!!!! all over your face

The problem we’re now seeing with this TARP is that now just about anything the banks do is ‘with taxpayer money.’ Banker takes a cab to a meeting? taxpayer money. Orders a spider roll over a california roll? Taxpayer money. Bank lobbies congress, taxpayer money, etc….
It’ll be interesting to see how long we play this silly control game, proposing little legislative mandates on the money these banks want (no more jets, etc…) instead of just plain old receivership and control.

I’m speechless. You think the democrats are the adults ? With 8 years of BUsh is Hitler, throwing pies at conservative commentators, serenading the outgoing president with scorn, etc. Come on. You can claim you have better ideas but adults pay their taxes. So that basically eliminates Tom Dascle.
Again, let me remind you – democrats in charge of Congress since 06. And while I’m at it, “Friends of Angelo”
MOST BESTEST ETHICALIST CONGRESS EVA !

I often wonder if some people are really that stupid and I suppose unable to read. Or just completely dishonest. I choose dishonest. I choose venal. One thing is for sure, they have never had an honest to goodness job in their life. Maybe a place to go and collect a check. But never an actual job. Communists. Neal Boortz always says not to say it because it makes you look funny. But that’s what ole Cleo is…and the rest of the filthy lot.
I taught people how to bait slimey coaches into ejections today.

Good gad, I thought Jaime (Gumb) was the stupidest person to ever comment on the internet, but then Semanticleo reminded me that s/he COMMENTS EVERY SINGLE DAY, thus concentrating the Stupid down like that alien did to the redshirts and Chekov on ToST. Of course, Kirk saved Chekov on account of the haircut. The easily-crumbled things, I mean.
Comment by donald on 2/1 @ 10:38 am #
So, I’m reading about Tom Daschle’s “issues”, and I think about Geithner’s issues, then I think about that Fifty four thousand six hundered and eighty four dollar check I wrote to the IRS last year. I am a complete sucker.
Comment by B Moe on 2/1 @ 10:41 am #
If we did away with empoyer withholding and every taxpayer in America had to sit down at the first of the year and write out a check for their entire tax burden we would have tax reform in a matter of weeks, Don.
Comment by donald on 2/1 @ 1:19 pm #
You’re right Bmoe, the entire PROGRSSIVE tax structure we (The ones who actually pay taxes) labor under, is completely dishonest. For that reason alone, I have nothing but contempt for any politician who does not support the complete elimination of the current tax code and an immediate implementation of a flat or sales tax. Because, despite what a mental giant like Cleo would say, I’m not for anarchy. I’m for freedom baby. Individual freedom…and responsibility.
Comment by Andrew the Noisy on 2/2 @ 12:20 pm #
I for one am convinced by the clarity and intellect of Cleo’s posts. Her detailed arguments on behalf of progressive economics have utterly won me over. I would like to subscribe to her newsletter.
