Imagine my dismay when the health department closed my favorite Vietnamese restaurant. Seems they’d raised suspicions by adopting.. 60? Don’t remember for sure.. Dogs and cats from the local pound. Remains of same were found in the restaurant’s coolers.

But it was tasty, so my vote for “How to eat a pet” is unknowingly.

JHoward, you’re making me nostalgic for the Iron Curtain.

I ate guinea pigs in Egypt. We called them gebel arnarb, mountain rabitts. They were gutted and wrapped in clay, which would harden when you baked them in a fire. You scooped them out like a baked potato. Crack the clay and the skin would peel right off with it. A little tahini, some good fresh warm pita bread, a cold beer and you are cruising.

Egyptians ate them till they heard they were called guinea pigs in English. They could not get over that pig part.
