“Good little dhimmis”

Behold Meryl Yourish in a proud rage, regarding anti-war demos by Yemeni and Iranian Jews:

Before Israel was created, Jews made no waves, kept their heads down, and publicly went along with whatever the prevailing sentiment was in their country. The Jews were essentially a subject people in every nation (save America), putting up with pretty much everything the host nation dished out, quietly, and without fighting back.

Sadly, the Jews in Iran and Yemen are perfect examples of the Jews of the past. They’re the Jews that Hamas and Fatah want to see in the faux state of Palestine. They’re the Jews that the world sighs for in nostalgia—and in secret. Or maybe not so secret. Because one of the things that the world has been unable to accept these past sixty years is a strong defense of Jews, by Jews, for Jews.

That’s why you have so many people calling for Israel to stop their war against Hamas. Because we’re not the good little dhimmis we were in Europe and Arabia. We’re no longer standing quietly for pogroms and murders.

Glad to know that colonization and economic strangulation of an entire population is justified if it’s done by people who themselves have a long history of being persecuted. Zionism is basically the ultimate form of identity politics.

    AJB:

Zionism was the most realistic of the 20th century’s “isms”. The other major isms did want to kill Jews, and actively sought to do more of it.

Remember too, that Palestinians voted for Hamas, meaning that they voted for the violent extinction of Israel.

Yep AJB, we need to get rid of the one functioning democracy, the one friend of America, the one respecter of human rights in the Middle East and then all will be well.

Leftards say that they hate dictators, yet they always seem to side with them, don’t they? Hmmm.

Translation: If you Jews would quit rabble rousing and die quietly, I’d like you more.

Please. The entirety of Palestinian identity has become nothing more than a weapon fashioned with one purpose: to push the Jews into the sea. The “can’t we all get along” garbage coming from the left is worthy of nothing but ridicule - platitudes do not end blood feuds, and it is foolish to think otherwise.

The population of which you speak could be housed easily in any of the many, large Islamic nations surrounding the tiny nation of Israel. Those nations could render aid if they chose. But doing so would disarm or disable their weapon and the very existence of the Jewish state is such an affront to the Arabs in that region that it must be destroyed. It’s the very reason Hamas, the elected government of Palestine, exists.

Palestinians could have had peace. They could have had their two state solution in Arafat’s time. But instead they chose death. And will continue to do so until it hurts too much to continue.

  9. Comment by Carin on 12/31 @ 11:22 am #

Why would Arafat wanted a two-state solution, Unrepentantgeek. When he died, he had accumulated about a billion dollars for himself. Who know that freedom fighting gig was so lucrative?

But, enough about him - lets focus on the poor, starving “Palestinians” reduced to eating grass for survival.

  10. Comment by SDN on 12/31 @ 11:22 am #

    Colonization? WTF?

The Jews bought the original lands they settled on in Palestine. From the Turks who were the governing power. Then the UN, whose absolute moral authority must be respected in every other area, set up a Jewish state, Israel, and an Arab state, Jordan.

The Jewish state did not start any of the 5 wars. The lands they took by force of arms after defeating their enemies are likewise legally theirs. As for economic strangulation, when Israel withdrew from Gaza, they left behind large amounts of infrastructure, including greenhouses in which fruits, vegetables, and flowers could be grown and sold. What do the Muslim morons do? Burn them to the ground.

The Palestinians are nothing but a convenient bargaining chip for Islam. The entire population is the result of three generations of Muslim propaganda induced psychosis. They pretty much define the phrase “beyond salvage.” Let them surrender, or die.

  11. Comment by Ric Locke on 12/31 @ 11:28 am #

More to Ms. Yourish’s point — it has to be one of the scariest thoughts a European can possibly confront: Jews who shoot back. Horrifying. What if they should generalize?

Haven’t the Israelis won every war started by their Arab neighbors? Hasn’t all of the Israeli “colonization” been on land they acquired by winning these wars that they themselves did not start?

    These are honest questions.

  18. Comment by Bob Reed on 12/31 @ 11:42 am #

I think that Yourish goes a bit far when saying; “…one of the things that the world has been unable to accept these past sixty years is a strong defense of Jews, by Jews, for Jews.” I don’t think the entire world has been against them, only a selct league of nations…

But Other than that she’s right on…

But, the behavior of the Yemeni and Iranian Jews may be more about self-preservation amongst an intolerant Muslim majority more than anything else; about being a good little dhimmi…

Not so much out of knowing where there place is, but for literal survival!

Curiously, this is really analogous to what’s going on in Gaza, right now as well as in the short continuum of their political history. Hamas keeps getting voted in due to mis-placed ethnic pride and frankly because it is not healthy to oppose their ideology in public; lest one be branded a zionist sympathizer, which is a veritable death sentance.

But very much like Al Sadr’s crew in Iraq, if the people would rise up in oppostition and demand bringing their dissolution, things would be much better off for both sides. It’s no secret that Hamas is instigating the conflict, as is par for the course. And, if events play out as usual, the Israelis will go far enough to weaken Hamas, but in the face of global Outrage! will again fail to completely destroy them. Ironically, if the Palestinians in Gaza would reject Hamas once and for all, they would probably never have to fear Israeli military action ever again…

But that won’t work for thise who favor Israeli national dhimmitude…

They proclaim this goal loudly and openly. Yet many will not accept the truth of it. Why?

Why, oh why, do liberal democrats absolutely refuse to take Islamists at their word that their goal is the destruction of Isreal?

I used to think it was because they themselves never mean anything they say in public, so they assume Islamists are lying too.

Zionism is basically the ultimate form of identity politics

If an Italian is proud of Italy and self-identifies as an Italian rather than a Citizen of the World, do you have a problem with that?

If not, then to ascribe anything different to Zionism then examine your premise. Are you uninformed about Zionism or merely just another run-of-the-mill anti-Semite leftist?

  29. Comment by Darleen on 12/31 @ 1:34 pm #

I realize AJB is a one-shot drive-by commenter but if he is lurking maybe he should consider that “Palestinians” are an invention. Arafat was an Egyptian and what we refer to as “Palestinians” are Arabs, majority of those that have no historical ties to the land of Israel.

There is no “Palestinian” history … no coinage, no kings, no buildings, no ruins of ancient “Palestinian” kingdoms. The name “Palestine” comes from the Romans — a corrupted version of “Phillistine” which the Romans called the area of conquered Israel in 70 AD in order to wipe out the Jewish history of the area.

But just as Muhammed cribbed the Bible and Jewish tradition for his new religion, so have Arab-”Palestinians” tried to steal Jewish history and call it their own.

I got your pogrom right here:

Olmert ‘ashamed’ by ‘pogrom’ in Hebron
    December 7, 2008

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Prime Minister Ehud Olmert called the violence in Hebron following the evacuation of a disputed house a “pogrom.”

“Immediately after the evacuation, there were actions that cannot be described except as attempted pogroms by Jews from the Hebron area and other areas against Palestinian residents in Judea and Samaria,” Olmert said at the beginning of Sunday’s Cabinet meeting.

He went on to say, “We are the children of a people whose historic ethos is built on the memory of pogroms. The sight of Jews firing at innocent Palestinians has no other name than pogrom. Even when Jews do this, it is a pogrom. As a Jew, I am ashamed that Jews could do such a thing.”

Olmert told the Cabinet that he and Defense Minister Ehud Barak “are instructing the security forces to do their utmost to prevent illegal and violent actions by Jews toward Palestinians in all areas under the responsibility of the State of Israel.”

Some 20 families and about 250 protesters were evacuated from Hebron’s Peace House, also called the House of Contention, on the night of Dec. 4. The evacuation came after Israel’s High Court of Justice upheld a government order that the house be emptied until a district court can determine ownership of the four-story, strategically located building.

Following the evacuations, young Jewish settlers reportedly terrorized Hebron’s Palestinian community, setting fires and smashing windows. Two Kiryat Arba residents allegedly fired into a Palestinian crowd, injuring a Palestinian man and his son, according to Palestinian reports.

The two men turned themselves in to police on Saturday, saying they were in danger at the time of the shooting and fired in self-defense, Ynet reported.

The Jerusalem Magistrates’ Court on Sunday remanded one of the men, Ze’ev Brauda, after police told the court that his actions were a provocation.

  120. Comment by Darleen on 12/31 @ 7:48 pm #

non-Jewish Jews are Jews ethnically but are not religious Jews. They can range from being apathetic about Judaism to being openly hostile to it. Chomsky, Marx, Judt are the latter category of ethnic Jews deadly hostile to their religious brethren. Some, like George Soros, are embarrassed to be Jews … and tend to blame Jews for anti-Semitism. “If only Jews didn’t [...] then the world would love us and accept us.”

    On hating Jews

Shocked by the visceral anti-Semitism he witnessed at the Dreyfus trial in supposedly enlightened France, Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern Zionism, became convinced that the primary cause of anti-Semitism was the anomalous condition of the Jews: a people without a polity of its own. In his seminal work, “The Jewish State” (1896), published two years after the trial, Herzl envisioned the creation of such a Jewish polity and predicted that a mass emigration to it of European Jews would spell the end of anti-Semitism.

Although his seemingly utopian political treatise would turn out to be one of the 20th century’s most prescient books, on this point history has not been kind to Herzl; no one would seriously argue today that anti-Semitism came to a halt with the founding of the state of Israel. To the contrary, this particular illusion has come full circle: while Herzl and most Zionists after him believed that the emergence of a Jewish state would end anti-Semitism, an increasing number of people today, including some Jews, are convinced that anti-Semitism will end only with the disappearance of the Jewish state.

I first encountered this idea quite a long time ago, in the Soviet Union. In the period before, during, and after the Six Day War of June 1967–a time when I and many others were experiencing a heady reawakening of our Jewish identity–the Soviet press was filled with scathing attacks on Israel and Zionism, and a wave of official anti-Semitism was unleashed to accompany them. To quite a few Soviet Jews who had been trying their best to melt into Soviet life, Israel suddenly became a jarring reminder of their true status in the “workers’ paradise”: trapped in a world where they were free neither to live openly as Jews nor to escape the stigma of their Jewishness. To these Jews, Israel came to seem part of the problem, not (as it was for me and others) part of the solution. Expressing what was no doubt a shared sentiment, a distant relative of mine quipped: “If only Israel didn’t exist, everything would be all right.”

In the decades since, and especially over the past three years, the notion that Israel is one of the primary causes of anti-Semitism, if not the primary cause, has gained much wider currency. The world, we are told by friend and foe alike, increasingly hates Jews because it increasingly hates Israel. Surely this is what the Belgian ambassador had in mind when he informed me during his visit that anti-Semitism in his country would cease once Belgians no longer had to watch pictures on television of Israeli Jews oppressing Palestinian Arabs.

I note, root veggie, through all of this, not once have you held Hamas responsible for anything … Israel is to blame for “war crimes” or “disproportionate response” or “tantrums”. But a murderous ideology that clearly claims the goal of the erradication of Israel and the Jew? Pish and tosh, not a thing to worry about because it will only be those icky Jewish Jews that fall - and peace will ensue.

I worked with a man, he’s name is Mizo — an Egyptian. He loves the United States. He knew that when he left Egypt and came to the U.S. he would have an opportunity to have success such as he never had in his home country.

We often talked late at night at the job. He liked me because I was a writer and he loved composing poetry. He would ask me what I thought of his poetry. And, honestly, it was quite good. We became close over time. When he left the job, he told me I was his brother and he would never forget me. I know I haven’t forgot him and I consider him my brother.

But one thing he said, one night, three years ago, has remained with me. He said the only problem in the world is the Jews and if were rid of them, the U.S. and the Muslim world would no longer have problems. I wanted to argue, but I didn’t. He was a friend.

I had another friend — a young Jewish woman from a family that had been in the United States for as long as mine. We were working together on Sept. 11. While we watched the events of the day, she asked me why anyone would do such a thing. Later, she asked me why such people hated Jews so much. I didn’t answer then. I told her to talk to her family. But, I did have an idea several years later after talking with Mizo.

I love them both to this day, but I can’t bridge that gap. I don’t know how to heal those wounds or counter that hate. But I do know this: A nation has a right to defend itself against aggression.

You may take the side of the Palestinians and say that the rocket attacks are justified because of Israeli aggression, or you may take the side of Israel and say that they have the right to retaliate against rocket and suicide attacks.

But my questions, ones that I had wished I asked Mizo when I had not wanted to offend a friend: What will happen when Israel is wiped off the map? I mean that sincerely. That is the stated goal of Iran, Syria, Hezbollah and Hamas.

What happens when Iran launches its nuclear missiles? Israel will retaliate, then they’ll all be gone. Will everyone be happy? Will you, parsnip? And what do I tell my Jewish friends? How do I justify it?

No one will have a homeland. It will be nothing but a wasteland. Do the Iranians think that their weapons won’t affect Gaza or the Left Bank? What matters when they’re all gone?

  128. Comment by Ag80 on 12/31 @ 9:28 pm #

And, of course, I meant the West Bank.

  130. Comment by Carin on 1/1 @ 6:53 am #

Of course they won’t be happy. They’ve focused so much blame on the Jews for any and every failure … if the Jews disappeared tomorrow they’d simply have to find a new excuse for their shortcomings.

It’s an asymetrical war, in the sense that the opposing sides have different objectives … Islamists want Jews dead, Jews just want to live their own lives.

Islamism is a death cult. Death is the ultimate expression of Islamist piousness … in comparison to Judaism or Christianity where living a good and faithful life is the goal.

  134. Comment by Carin on 1/1 @ 10:37 am #

Now, now Darleen. Let’s not overstate the issue. The Palestinians wouldl be perfectly happy if Israel simply absorbed them, and allowed them to vote! Hama could then sink or swim through the democratic process.

They want no part of the “Palestenians”. See, I’m right up front about my thoughts and convictions, you fling shit about, just trying to agitate. Our trolls have been asked this question in many forms time after time, and won’t (or can’t) answer, because they know they lose the debate as soon as they do.
