It is amusing to see the hypocrisy from the Left concerning Gov. Ed Rendell’s remarks about Janet “no life” Napolitano … the same crowd that slammed Gov. Palin for not staying home and taking care of her kids. Arrianna Huffington, that bastion of Womanspeak purrs
“I think that is really…an illusion about a woman’s life. Like Janet Napolitano has a very rich life. I mean, she plays tennis twice a week and nobody in her staff can interfere with that sacred time. She actually climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. She goes river rafting. She loves movies and the opera.”
Ah! Mountain climber! River rafter! Laudable life embellishments for single, childless females of the left. But Ms. Huffington will have none of that for Gov. Sarah Palin
Well, I thought that Sarah Palin, in a way, summed up what happens when you’re not curious. When you’re not interested in what is going on in the world.
More than just a double standard, Ms. Huffington ought to be careful about criticizing someone she perceives as “incurious about the world around her” considering her own record of “incuriousity” about her own husband.
Stones, glass houses, you know, the usual schtick.

Comment by Techie on 12/5 @ 9:05 am #
Remember, snowmobiling and moose-hunting are not Left-approved activities, and are thus, by definition, “incurious”.
Comment by Rob Crawford on 12/5 @ 9:07 am #
Hasn’t Palin worked on a commercial deep-sea fishing boat? Sounds a hell of a lot more adventurous than a guided tour up Kilamanjaro.

Does it surprise anyone that this woman judges the political as the personal? You have to be left-wing to be “good” in her world, it is just that simple.

This isn’t going to turn into another “conservatives hate on childless women ’cause they’re all deluded losers” bit, is it? It’s tiresome. Especially from people who believe in personal responsibility–the world has enough fatherless brats without me adding to the problem, OK?–and individual liberty.

I absolutely loathe childless women. I mean, what good is a woman, if she’s not popping out brats like a Pez dispenser?
Comment by Carin on 12/5 @ 9:40 am #
Conservatives don’t hate childless women. I even know a few myself. It’s just kinda ironical and shit that Huffington criticizes Palin for being a mom and lauds Napalitano for doing the childless-carefree-do-what-I-want thing.
Those without kids can do things like climb dangerous mountains and follow their whims to their hearts content. Moms can’t (or shouldn’t) because they are responsible for undeveloped people.
Moms are also notorious for having little time to read. Unless, we’re talking children’s books to the kids.
That doesn’t make someone incurious.

Maybe “Laudable life embellishments for single, childless females” wasn’t meant as a slam on the childless, but it sure looks like one.

I think the “hatin’” is on Arianna Huffenpuff and her (political) ilk for being moronic nimrods. Not sure I’ve detected any “hatin’” on Gov. Napolitano here.
Rendell’s comment about her “not having a life” sounds kind of “hatin’” to me though. Does he claim to be a conservative? You know, the way Andrew Sullivan and Grenn Gleenwald do?

Carin – I think the funniest part is that Palin actually did the things like moose hunting, commercial fishing, etc … because that is who they are, where they were mocked for that. On the other hand, when Napolitano does it, it is romanticized and speaks positively to her nature, even though it was a visit, a vacation, packaged and guided.
Yes, Spies. Arriana switch teams after she caused her husband to switch teams.

Heather,
Don’t you think you’re painting with a bit of a wide brush? Just because many conservatives are pro-life doesn’t mean we’re anti-feminism. We’re just anti-establishment feminism; which is really just another flavor in the identity politics rainbow…
No one I have read is openly criticizing women who choose the single life of business, clergy, or academia; simply the ones that try to diminish the other women who have made more traditional social choices…
So relax, no one on our side is down on issues of women’s equality of opportunity as well as their rights under the law. You are not under assault for the life choices you’ve made…
Besides, I and many other men love, and admire, strong, independant minded, single women…
At least I used to, now my wife says I’m not allowed to,*ahem*, admire them any more…

I don’t think anybody here cares whether or not Gov. Janet is childless and free. The only ones who seem to care are Huffington and Rendell. It seems to me that Rendell making an off the cuff remark that “she has no life” is far more illustrative of his particular bent than any conservative’s, regardless of past posts on other sites.
Sarah Palin has lived the sort of curious, adventurous life that Janet Napolitano can only dream about. I think one of the thinks that continuously pisses off women like Huffinpuff is how much Palin has in her life and how happy she seems with it all. Jealousy, maybe?
Comment by Slartibartfast on 12/5 @ 10:19 am #
One could choose to believe either a) Palin hasn’t any notion at all that Afghanistan is far, far away, or b) that she misspoke.

Palin is Reagan. A natural politician representing the far Right, a killer smile as she twists the knife in an opponent, and a genius at dividing America into real Americans and fake Americans.
After 4 years of getting schooled on issues up North (and making fat cash on the lecture circuit), she will give Obama a run for his money in 2012 in quire possibly the last campaign Lee Atwater could have ever run. Knocking her credibility as a homepsun, regular gal now (with her own actions no less) is just good politics. I have a feeling, she’ll lose the 2012 election, but Carter and the Dems sure thought they’d crush Reagan too.
Also, besides attacks on other commenters and updates on his health and travel status, has this “JD” ever added anything to a conversation?

I wonder what you have to read to spout this shit:
“…the Warren court, it wasn’t that radical; it didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers and the Constitution…. One of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was because the civil rights movement became so court focused, I think, there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributive change, and in some ways, we still suffer from that. You can craft theoretical justification for it legally, and any three of us sitting here could come up with a rationale for bringing about economic change through the courts.”

Anything in law school about how the Court system is not a solution to economic inequalities resulting from slavery, segregation, and Jim Crow.
All Obama is saying is attempting to sue for equal property tax funding of public schools was not only a loser argument in 1971, it forfeited a better route of developing a coalition of people who could bring about the goals politically, rather than from litigation.
But, rather than focus on the areas where scholarship says he’s correct (the Warren Court was radical in a few places, but nearly as much as people at the time thought or the Civil Rights movement faltered when it attempted to use the Courts to address the vast wealth inequity in America, because the Courts aren’t the correct way to do that). you focus on two scary words?
Governor Palin would be proud of you.

Wow, though, can you imagine a world where you decry the lost causes of ideology before you insult! My God, then we might have been having a discussion, which is more than I can say about that lackwit friend of yours (although in #134 he made a half-hearted straw man attempt an argument…baby steps, “JD,” baby steps).

I’m not sure what you get out of what Obama’s saying, but it sounds a lot like redistributive is being used with respect to economics. And, he said as much several times during the election. Although calling O! a commie! may be a bit extreme, he is at the very least an activist kind of socialist who believes that the overall societal wealth should be distributed evenly; regardless of the energies expended or risks taken. The bottom line is that he’s talking about taking from the rich and giving it to the less well off. But, not so much out of necessity, but more for the fairness…
He specifically talks about using this redistributive approach to spur the economy. The cover is provided by this notion that giving the less fortunate more money to buy consumer goods will somehow invigorate the economy. This fallacy is exposed by looking at the failure of the former Soviet Union, Maoist China, and the stagnation of the Euro-zone. And ultimately it will quash the individual drive, ingenuity, and productivity of our society if implemented…

The economic crisis Obama is inheriting from Bush is as big a crisis as 9/11 was.”
First, the economic crisis was caused in large part by the CRA and the mortgage GSEs. Second, is it really much different than the Enron/Dot-com-bubble economic mess that Clinton passed off to Bush? Perhaps the rate of change was faster this time, but if you add in the post 9/11 events the overall magnitude is about the same. Third, 9/11 was an attack by outside agents against our nation. And, although I can’t prove that Soros and his off-shore hedge fund boys didn’t short the market to a tipping point, in order to influence the elections, I can say that this time the system attack was from internal forces-Like Messers. Dodd, Frank, Schumer, Raines, and Johnson to name a few. It’s easy to simply repeat the greedy bankers and CEOs mantra, but if the derivative products were not available in the first place, or didn’t carry an implicit government guarantee (Fannie/Freddie), then they would not have been nearly as widespread and intrinsic as they became…
So while you, the MSM, and the 52/48 crowd can all call on us to support O!, a misleading euphamism you all use for do whatever he wants regardless of the Constitution or American tradition-just like bi-partisan means do whatever the Democrats want, we can choose to support him where he’s right and oppose him otherwise…

Assclown,
A constitutional law professor that views the Constitution as a charter of negative liberties, one that simply limits what the state and federal governments can do to you, instead of a charter affirming the liberties of the individuals in that society is not exactly that knowledgable…
This nations core principles revolve around individual liberty, individual responsibility, core inaliable rights, and equality-both of opportunity and under the law. Obama believes in equality of outcome and views the limitation of government authority, which is necessary to maximize individual liberty, as negatives. So if he believes the constitution to be fundamentally fallacious, how could he, intellectually honestly, teach constitutional law?
Kinda like a physics professor thinking the theory of relativity is fundamentallt flawed…He will always impart a negative bias to his students regardless of how benignly he discusses it in class…

Assclown@226
Well then, perhaps you can enlighten me as to what he meant in this quote…
“You know, if you look at the victories and failures of the civil-rights movement, and its litigation strategy in the court, I think where it succeeded was to vest formal rights in previously dispossessed peoples. So that I would now have the right to vote, I would now be able to sit at a lunch counter and order and as long as I could pay for it, I’d be okay, but the Supreme Court never entered into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and sort of more basic issues of political and economic justice in this society.
And uh, to that extent, as radical as I think people tried to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution  at least as it’s been interpreted, and Warren Court interpreted it in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties: [It] says what the states can’t do to you, says what the federal government can’t do to you, but it doesn’t say what the federal government or the state government must do on your behalf.
And that hasn’t shifted, and one of the, I think, the tragedies of the civil-rights movement was because the civil-rights movement became so court-focused, uh, I think that there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributive change. And in some ways we still suffer from that.”
Barack Obama in 2001
And there are many instances of Obama discussing the relative fairness in raising the capital gains and dividend tax rates-in addition to letting the eeeeevil Booooosh! tax cuts expire. Those same tax cuts, by the way, benefitted the lower brackets by a much greater percentage than they did the highest brackets-a point of fact that his supporters will never admit. So Obama’s belief in equality of outcome and activist wealth redistribution is no strawman, but well documented in both this passage as well as a variety of other statements he made throughout the campaign…
And one other thing. I’ve been civil to you, and would appreciate the same courtesy in return. And, while you choose to criticize me for lack of evidence, I don’t see too many quotes/links in your comments…
Best Wishes

I, for one, never even requested assclown’s rancid presence, much less his ill-informed opinions. Likewise for spooge, thor, parsnip, et al.
I find it fascinating that, according to our resident leftards, one cannot EVER use a direct Barry quote, because it WILL be “out of context,” even when reproduced in it’s entirety. Talk about the ultimate political tool (in every sense of the word)!
Comment by N. O'Brain on 12/5 @ 5:59 pm #
For example:
‘Muted by Reality’
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122841335568079935.html
“It is awfully generous of the Times to forgive Obama’s supporters for believing what they read in the Times.
It must be said that not everyone is surprised to find Obama’s campaign promises “muted by reality.” Those of us who were paying attention to reality before Nov. 4 never took Obama’s pledge to flee Iraq seriously. Although it is especially repugnant to seek political gain by promising to lose a war, it is also common for presidential candidates to make unrealistic promises, especially on foreign policy, and disregard them once elected.”
Ooooo, that’s gonna leave a mark.

And by Change I meant change back to the bi-polar post WWII settlement that has been as dead as Metternich since the Hammer-and-Sickle was hauled down over the Kremlin; change that does not acknowledge a Kipling’s World of multiple great powers and ungoverned areas outside the influence of those powers, change that tries to resurrect the old international order.

“President-elect Barack Obama has appointed an extraordinary team for national security policy. …
No one can question the [Secretary of State-designate's] leadership potential for breaking through encrusted patterns or her formidable presence in a negotiation. …
No one has ever been appointed national security adviser who had the command experience of retired Gen. James L. Jones, the former head of the Marine Corps and NATO commander. Inevitably, the facilitating function of the security adviser will be accompanied by a role in policymaking based on a vast, almost unique, experience. …
The continuation in office of Robert Gates as secretary of defense is an important balancing element in that process. … The incoming administration must have appointed him with the awareness that he would not reverse his previous convictions. He must make the difficult adjustment from one administration to another — a tribute to the nonpartisan nature of the conduct of his office in the Bush administration.”

This is two nights in a row that assclown and his ‘tard posse have scattered for the baseboards when I mentioned the Big Os campaign finances.
We may have discovered a new troll repellent, here.
Comment by Mikey NTH on 12/5 @ 6:46 pm #
It seems to me that Mr. Obama has made a personal policy of being agreeable to those who can help him advance, and as soon as they begin to hinder him he cuts his ties to them. M. Tallyrand would surely approve. For example, if I were Mr. Ayers I would make plans to leave soon, else a re-investigation find charges that were not filed based upon evidence that has newly come to light. Cold cases and all of that.
If I have said ‘empty suit’ in the past, I take that back. I now am thinking ‘very calculating’.
Eh, we will see.
Comment by JD on 12/5 @ 6:50 pm #
BMoe – Excellent point. They never want to dicusss why Baracky’s campaign chose to actively disable the AVS system, allowing free and unfettered access to donations from around the globe. Additionally, despite their claim to desire transparency, they continue to refuse to disclose the donors at less than $200, even though it has been shown that donors at slightly higher figures gave repeatedly, and routinely exceeded the statutory caps. It is prolly racist to point that out. Also, like I predicted, the numbers from Octber have been studiously ignored by the media.

Bob Reed – The FEC is going to audit McCain’s campaign. They will be ice skating in hell when Baracky’s books are opened up for inspection, much less audited by the FEC.

Mr. Burgundy, you are laboring under a fundamental misconception: that your opinion matters, to me or anyone else.
Pretty much anytime I engage you and your fellow trolls, it’s for the sheer entertainment value of watching you froth incoherently.
You are not my countrymen. You are not my fellow citizens. You are loathsome and if I stepped on you something sticky and yellow would run. If I became aware of a plot to do you harm, my sole motivator in stopping it would be because your neighbors don’t deserve any additional harm beyond what your proximity inflicts on them daily.
The word is not hate. The word is despise. If your collective brains were turned to antimatter, the explosion wouldn’t blow a gnat’s nose.

The anger of the white man never gets tired does it. The kind of man who apparently is willing to murder political opponents (and in a follow-up post, doubles down) receives no special mention here at Protein Wisdom (stay classy, sore losers), whereas the quoting Sarah Palin’s clothing and make-up bill results in a tantrum of silliness so harsh that even one’s hatred of Teri Gross can be overcome to denounce the insults to Lady Palin.
In fact, after a post wherein the little pipsqueak threatens to shoot people who disagree with him, he then claims ohters “froth incoherently.” May I assume the distinction you make, oh lost soul, is that you think your frothing is “coherent”?
I’ll just address this to you, SDN, to say you have no understanding of politics, no conception of what makes marketplace of ideas, no comprehension of what an actual American is, is to give you too much credit. You, sir, are no different from the Muslim suicide bomber, who sees everyone as infidels in his world. No different from the Jewish settler laying wreaths on the grave of Baruch Goldstein. No different from the Palestinian martyr who blows up pizza joints. Your thinking is the same; all you need is a belt and an overcoat.
For one to denounce the “trolls” on this page and never once address the insular stupidity and violence of SDN’s posts, tells me all I need to know about the right wing lawyers and kooks infesting this site.
But, let’s not part as enemies, let us enjoy a good laugh at this:
Leaving aside the factual inanity with what “JD” writes, the absurdity of a man with over 30 posts on this thread alone claiming he is a hard-worker is awesome. Jacksass was in the hospital for a week, returns to work, and his “work” piled up on him so much, he can spend hours making witty references to “sppoj” and calling people liars. You must work very hard, “JD”!
As for the answer to the question, we will never know how much the foreign-war-tax-cut enthusiasts hate taxes, but we can sure that harnessing their blind, flailing rage at taxes should be enough to power the country after the oil is gone. Forget T. Boone Pickens and ethanol, harnessing the Baby Boomer Right’s obsession with tax cuts should keep their SUV’s and trailers lit well into the 22nd century.
Meanwhile, the rest of us will continue to listen to the inanity, until SDN goes all Timothy McVeigh on those “others” which populate his imagination.
