…to live.
OTTAWA — The Carleton University Students’ Association has voted to drop a cystic fibrosis charity as the beneficiary of its annual Shinearama fundraiser, supporting a motion that argued the disease is not “inclusive” enough.Cystic fibrosis “has been recently revealed to only affect white people, and primarily men” said the motion read Monday night to student councillors, who voted almost unanimously in favour of it.
Every year near the beginning of fall classes, during university orientation for new arrivals, students fan out across the city and seek donations from passersby. According to the motion, “all orientees and volunteers should feel like their fundraising efforts will serve their (sic) diverse communities.”
You just know they wouldn’t have passed such a motion where it concerns Sickle cell anemia or Tay-Sachs.

Picture circa 1964 — the brunette 10 year old in the pink dress is me, the little blonde girl in red, front and center, is my cousin Debbie. In three years from this picture, she’d be dead of Cystic Fibrosis.
The Carleton University Students’ Association has a certain, calculated “lack of empathy”, eh? Thank you, Howard Zinn, Bill Ayers and other Leftist education elites for raising a generation of civic-minded monsters.

Canadians are kind of sick in the head. I’m not sure what is to be done.

Carleton invented the “Yellow School of Journalism”.
Oh … and thanks, hf.

Because of the lack of melanin …
This kind of crap should be shocking in its brain jarring stupidity. Sadly, it is not.

This is an inevitable result of identity politics. I can hardly wait for socialized medicine to get its claws in here.

My economist friend always reminds me that we make choices every day to allow some people to live and others to die. Funding one type of research over another is just one example. I understand that those choices have to be made. But this is downright mean it seems. But, I was in search of another charity to donate to this year and I just think I may have found it.

And you thought the Left universally scorned dead white males. They like them so much, they’ll do anything they can to make more.

Well, for one thing, I live three thousand kilometres away from Carleton (”Last Chance”) U. My throwin’ arm’s just not that strong. ;-)
I look at this more in the line of “You get what you deserve” — and the blithering idiots at the Carleton University Students’ Association are reaping the tremendous scorn of the Canadian public, not to mention even Carleton’s very own student newspaper.
Comment by Rob Crawford on 11/27 @ 5:31 pm #
What’s fascinating is they made this decision based on a lie. It’s not a solely “white male” disease, and if any of them had bothered to do the research — or to listen to those who did — they’d have known that.
This, folks, is anti-intellectualism. This is anti-science, militant ignorance, and open hatred.
Comment by Diana on 11/27 @ 5:46 pm #
CUSA has issued a bland retraction. Ah … youth (or yoots, as they say)!
Comment by cynn on 11/27 @ 7:45 pm #
This has nothing to do with anti-intellectualism. It’s just plain dumb. Certain drooling activists need to be bitchslapped. Dog’s will be done.

Looks like Donnie Northrup, the one-man brain trust behind this idea, is also involved in such burning issues as trying to get styrofoam cups and bottled water banned from campus.
Quite the budding young politician, young Donnie; involved in all sorts of committees.
I think his political career just came to a screeching halt.

I second Panther Girl, I just found my next donation too.
There just seems to be no bottom to the well of progressive’s vicious small mindedness.
Comment by JohnAnnArbor on 11/27 @ 8:50 pm #
SPB, look what he says now:
“This was the proper thing to do, it never had to go through CUSA,” Northrup said. “The Orientation Supervisory Board could have switched charities without it being brought to the public’s attention.”
Little bastard isn’t going to admit he was wrong.
Comment by SarahW on 11/27 @ 9:00 pm #
Not only was the resolution gob-smackingly ignorant and wrong, AND gratuitously, righteously hateful; but (and this is the part that kills me) the student, Donnie Northrup, who was responsible for it is a fourth year science student.
What kind of pudding-heads is that university foisting on the world?
Comment by Spies, Brigands, and Pirates on 11/27 @ 9:04 pm #

“Integrated science”, i.e. fake science.

I was actually hoping that this was something akin to Alan Sokal’s “Transgressing the Boundaries: Towards a Transformative Hermeneutics of Quantum Gravity.”
But it seems that Mr. Northrup really is just that dim.

To give credit to the more normal students at Hog’s Back High, they held a small protest/fund raising event yesterday, calling for the impeachment of CUSA members.

I’m sorry for your loss. I know that time can only dull, but not erase, the pain that something like that causes.
As to the progressives who would embrace such thinking: wow. Words fail me as to the plain lack of empathy, shoddy reasoning, and blatant falsehoods that they seem so comfortable with. Just wow.
Comment by Akatsukami on 11/28 @ 8:55 am #
Fixed that for you, Donnie.

Donnie is obviously taking up a school slot better filled by a crumpled piece of paper or a half-eaten hot dog.
Not only should he not be in charge of anything at the school, he shouldn’t be there at all, seriously. And as much as the others would like to lay it as his feet, I seriously doubt he did this all on his lonesome. There are probably at least a dozen places at that university that would be better filled by people who aren’t bugfuck insane.
“Hate mail?” No, sorry, Donnie, you don’t GET to be indignant at this point.

There isn’t enough scorn in the world for that self-righteous little twit. Note to Mr. Northrup: Elmer Gantry isn’t relegated to one time or to one belief, you canting, pathetic, whiny, little Uriah Heep.
Comment by ushie on 11/28 @ 1:44 pm #
By Donnie’s “logic,” since AIDS in North America primarily hits white males, we shouldn’t support charity efforts for that, either.
Actually, Donnie’s kind of a tragic figure: 4 years into education, and yet more stupid than a box of lizards.

I’m worried about Canada.

I mentioned this to our daughter who lives in DC. We have close family friends with a daughter suffering from the disease. I was surprised to hear her respond, “yeah, we’ve heard this type of stuff in DC before.”
And I thought it was unique. Not so.
