How come he didn’t leave thor the keys? Couldn’t trash the joint much more than he already has.

    Hey Dan,
There’s always this daily mail piece

    Enjoy all…

    Chilling, but perhaps true…

what history is shouting to me from across the chasm of seven decades

Thanks, Bob. The Peter Hitchens one, I believe, was linked over at the Pub a couple of times. The one at Dollard is good, too, but I’d like to see what parts of it people agree or disagree with, and go from there.

Sorry about the re-tread from Hitchens…

I guess I missed that day at the pub!

    Best Wishes…

How about the problem that McCain will cause if he doesn’t pick a true Conservative running mate, like Joe Lieberman or Mitt Romney, and how Obama will win in a landslide? You know, like if he does something totally choady like pick an icky girl?

A request to shorten the link in 2, thx

  9. Comment by Bob Reed on 11/14 @ 10:31 am #

    Sorry urthshu,
I’m not sure how that is done…

    Regrets…

On the article at Pat Dollard; I have no real disagreement with any of it.

My thoughts are that at least in the 30s/40s there were free and powerful countries willing, eventually, to stand up and fight for freedom. If the USA goes down that early 1900s path of Germany, Italy, Japan or Russia where is the nation that will stand up for freedom and has the strength to win the fight. Will extraterrestrial aliens come to our aid? /sarc.

Second, does anyone else have the feeling everything going on lately is some script. As if I’m the character in a horror film who knows the monster is out but can’t get the others to quit partying and escape. The movie name is “The Revenge of the KGB” and was written in the late 60s.

  13. Comment by Bob Reed on 11/14 @ 11:03 am #

    Thanks for the tip geoffb,

And, I agree that it seems scripted…

With KGB useful idiots like Ayers and James Bond Super-villian types like George Soros…

So, Obama isn’t going to grammie’s memorial service. I realize he said his goodbyes just before she passed, but what does this say about his sense of decorum? The man’s an iconoclast, I tells ya! Fuck the oppressive Funeral System! Power to all the potential voters!

Is this just about privacy and keeping the media circus away? Cuz, memo to the One: That’s just part of the gig you signed up for.

At least she wasn’t lonely there, under the bus before she died.

Watched The Today Show this am and saw

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27692505/

congress and the press softball these hedge fund billionares. I’m thinking “how’d they get a pass when CEO’s are vilefied?” Then I see Soros sitting there, owning them all…

  16. Comment by JD on 11/14 @ 11:13 am #

So, Obama isn’t going to grammie’s memorial service.

Can you fucking imagine how unglued the Left and the media (I know, redundant) would have been had George Bush not attended his grandparents funeral, or the equivalent?

  17. Comment by urthshu on 11/14 @ 11:14 am #

    Well, what can you do…

    Topic:
Has anyone made the, no doubt invidious, comparison of O’s $40/hr* compensation for ‘mandatory volunteerism’ to combat duty pay to troops?

    *100 hrs service/$4000 towards college = $40/hr

  18. Comment by geoffb on 11/14 @ 11:33 am #

    Thanks for the tip geoffb,

I was going to link to a Firefox extension called “Text Formatting Toolbar” which TopsecretK9 pointed out in a thread at the pub a while ago but after Firefox updated today I can’t get to the extensions page.

The extension name is self-explanatory. It works great. HTML in comments is very easy.

Yes, geoffb, this is looking like the biggest historic slow-motion train wreck imaginable. But the issue is, “the nation that will stand up for freedom and has the strength to win the fight” is also strong enough to thoroughly cornhole us all under new leadership. Would we be better off having stayed out of WWII, and have let the combating socialized nations slaughter each other for all to remember?

  22. Comment by geoffb on 11/14 @ 12:04 pm #

“Would we be better off having stayed out of WWII, and have let the combating socialized nations slaughter each other for all to remember?”

Probably not as all the technical innovations that came out of that conflict would have been developed by the winner, Germany or USSR, and we would be facing that without all of our advantages. Intercontinental bombers and missiles negate having two oceans of distance for protection.

It’s an alternate history I don’t see as better.

  23. Comment by Dan Are on 11/14 @ 12:15 pm #

Nothing would’ve stopped us from developing those weapons. Hitler was already spread thin, and missles and bombers aren’t an invasion. How would he have staged the troups? Mexico? We’d have pounded the crap out of Mexico and fed shiploads of “invading” troups (if they could find them) to the sharks.

I’m not a big student of history, but I seem to recall WWII nearly wiped out two generations of russian and german men, and high WWI casualties left the french with their distaste for war. As much as I’m proud of my late father having freed Jews from the ovens, FDR had his reasons for involving us, and his reasons sucked.

  24. Comment by geoffb on 11/14 @ 12:44 pm #

Agree to disagree as with all that is going on in the actual world I’m not up to alternate histories at this juncture.
