There’s probably more to this than appears — I can’t view videos right now, but some are claiming a longer form of the video shows the guy had a plastic sword or something on him.

When they handcuff you you are arrested dumbass.
Under most circumstances once they physically detain you (handcuffs or not) you are going to be arrested. It is a liability issue, release being an indication that your initial detainment was likely in error.

That is what I was getting at Thomas. Once those cuffs go on for them to just take them off would be an admission of error and thus bring about a shit storm. I have seen DC cops do it but it was after they had already ruffed the drunk up a little bit and I do not think they wanted to explain his condition to anybody. They saw cameras there, there is no way they would just handcuff him and then let him go later. It would be pretty freakin dumb if they did.

Distressing. The cops probably did stop him from being ripped apart like that guy in shaun of the dead. If that crowd had a tire and torch I think they would have used it.

If there’s a longer version where he’s carrying a sword, let me know. Still, cheering the arrest is hardly what one expects from the dissent is patriotic crowd — and last I heard, the likelihood of killing someone with a plastic sword is slim, unless you are using it as an anal stimulant.

The police have an obligation to keep order. A few less police and few more drinks by the mob and cops would be removing that guys body a few hours later. It has less to do with the freedom of speech and more to do with keeping the city from being trashed. I’m willing to bet, as soon as the cops got to the station, the kid was released.
I don’t trust our president elect.
