I wonder what color shirts they wear? [Darleen Click]

Another in the on-going series of Scratch a Leftist …

Nearly 10,000 of the biggest donors to Republican candidates and causes across the country will probably receive a foreboding “warning” letter in the mail next week.

The letter is an opening shot across the bow from an unusual new outside political group on the left that is poised to engage in hardball tactics to prevent similar groups on the right from getting off the ground this fall.

Led by Tom Matzzie, a liberal political operative who has been involved with some prominent left-wing efforts in recent years, the newly formed nonprofit group, Accountable America, is planning to confront donors to conservative groups, hoping to create a chilling effect that will dry up contributions.

“We want to stop the Swift Boating before it gets off the ground,” said Mr. Matzzie, who described his effort as “going for the jugular.”

The warning letter is intended as a first step, alerting donors who might be considering giving to right-wing groups to a variety of potential dangers, including legal trouble, public exposure and watchdog groups digging through their lives.

It’s getting rough in California, where anti-Prop 8 (Limit Marriage initiative) groups are targeting donors. Unconfirmed claims from the proponents of Prop 8 is that these “targeting” efforts include not just “large” donors, but — using the Los Angeles Times database — anyone that has donated over $100 in support of Prop 8 has to declare their employer and employers are getting calls along the lines of “Why do you employ a hater? Do you think it’s good for your business to have a hater there?”

Isn’t that special?

So, they are using some sort of form of extortion and harassment; and, these are the people who say that the President is taking away our freedoms and creating a climate of fear and suspicion?

    Yeah, right.

Oh, and if anyone tried to do something like that to me, I’d lawyer up so fast it’d leave a sonic boom, then I’d OWN their houses, their cars, their pets and their mistresses.

They can keep their mewling brats.

Odd, Barrette Brown is missing from this thread. I guess our bewilderment over the embargo of the Edwards story gripes his wagger, but lefties threatening blackmail just doesn’t interest him.

Rather odd, for someone who claims to be above the fray, and to criticize the left as often as the right. Rather odd, indeed.

    It’s early.

A phone call to someone asking if about havnig a “hater” on staff might not have the desired effect. People are getting a bit fed up with victim cultists, I think, as evidenced most recently by the stupidity of lefty windbags regarding the McCain ads, phallicism, skinny as racist, and all that similar bushwah: it did not gain traction and pushing people around is beginning to piss a lot of us off.

I think it will in California, because even if the business owner is sympathetic to the donor, they realize the next step is picketing/boycotting the business.

I think the picketting/boycottting by a few nuts would be preferable to the business owner rather than diciplining or terminating an employee for a personal political donation in favor of a legal proposition on the friggin ballot(and said employee then suing and owning you and your company).

My new neighbor has a “Texans for OBAMA” sticker on his back car window (SUV). Tuesday night I ninja’d over to his driveway and covered it with a “Texas for McCain” sticker.**

Checked this morning. It’s still there.

    Gonna be a great weekend.

**This may have been unnecessary as he also has an Oklahoma State U sticker, so it was already obvious he’s retarded. Actually, the McCain sticker with the OSU might confuse people. Retards for McCain? I might have hurt the campaign.

    Shit.

    Anyone got Hillary! bumber stickers?

I don’t know why you are feeling so smug when this news is just and admission as to the desperation of your side of the political aisle: you have to resort to extortion and intimidation because you cannot stand the fact that 100% of the country, especially flyover country, doesn’t drink your Kool-Aid.

It’s appropriate that you should choose the name of Duncan Idaho, given that he was continually used as a ghola, much the way the Democratic constituency get to vote long after they have died.

I did not think that they wore shirts on Polk St, unless they were hair shirts. If I recall correctly, there were a lot of topless dudes with nipple rings, and other guys licking their fingertips, hungrily.

A challenge to “card check” from an unlikely source …

    Voting is an immense privilege.

That is why I am concerned about a new development that could deny this freedom to many Americans. As a longtime friend of labor unions, I must raise my voice against pending legislation I see as a disturbing and undemocratic overreach not in the interest of either management or labor.

The legislation is called the Employee Free Choice Act, and I am sad to say it runs counter to ideals that were once at the core of the labor movement. Instead of providing a voice for the unheard, EFCA risks silencing those who would speak.

The key provision of EFCA is a change in the mechanism by which unions are formed and recognized. Instead of a private election with a secret ballot overseen by an impartial federal board, union organizers would simply need to gather signatures from more than 50% of the employees in a workplace or bargaining unit, a system known as “card-check.” There are many documented cases where workers have been pressured, harassed, tricked and intimidated into signing cards that have led to mandatory payment of dues.

You know, I visited Mr. Mattzie’s site, which allows one to donate any amount - I wonder if several thousand people donated $.01 at a time, would the CC processing charges create a negative balance? Just brainstorming.

“Payback IS a bitch, isn’t it dirty tricksters?”

I think we’ve seen inside their tiny minds - anything that they can imagine/pretend has been unjustly done to them is fair game going the other way. ‘Tis why accusing the Republicans of stealing elections is such a hot meme - they need to deal with the dissonance of having done it themselves, and planning on doing it again.

What I don’t get (okay, so that’s a lie) is why there are so many haters who like so very much to find an excuse to hate without guilt.

I mean… look at Duncan. The pure glee is amazing to see. Is it called transference or something, I donno. I’m sure someone has a name for this way of thinking, of justifying a hateful attitude and harassment at work, and punishment for holding a contrary opinion or participating in the political process, by telling ones self that the person being harassed deserves it.

I’m thinking that’s probably pretty standard for all haters, harassers, and abusers. The target of their behavior has done something to deserve it.

Threatening people with harassment and not seeing what’s wrong with that? Stop the “Swift-boating” before it starts by preemptive bad behavior? And haters? It’s quite all right to get the hate on and hate the haters. Yay! Guilt free hate! It’s not just for Rethuglicans anymore.

    Isn’t this FUN!

Though I agree… even in California this is going to raise hackles more than anything else. Even business people who are in agreement are likely to resent being bothered by callers who are attempting to force them into confrontational situations against their desires. Employers are people and likely to react like people.

Maybe none of these bright bulbs who think this is a great idea have ever actually tried to run a business before.

Duncan / Semanticleo suffers from both a split personality and paranoid delusions of being oppressed, along with a startling lack of knowledge of history. This leads him (her? it?) to believe, despiteall evidence to the contrary, that somehow, those who do not believe as he does are somehow thwarting his designs / preferred outcomes, through malfeasence and deliberate manipulation of the system. These delusions, in turn, justify his behavior, at least within his own fevered imagination.
