It’s not going to happen: In May, Random House abruptly called off publication of the book. The series of events that torpedoed this novel are a window into how quickly fear stunts intelligent discourse …
In an interview about Ms. Jones’s novel, Thomas Perry, deputy publisher at Random House Publishing Group, said that it “disturbs us that we feel we cannot publish it right now.” He said that after sending out advance copies of the novel, the company received “from credible and unrelated sources, cautionary advice…
Oh, wait. I misread. My bad,
That should be fear of violence for writing about Muhammed
On a May 21 conference call, Random House executive Elizabeth McGuire told the author and her agent that the publishing house had decided to indefinitely postpone publication of the novel for “fear of a possible terrorist threat from extremist Muslims” and concern for “the safety and security of the Random House building and employees.”
I’ll be awaiting some comment from Leftists who screech “censorship!” “theocracy!” “you haters!” when Christians write the sharply-worded letter about some anti-Christian bashing in the media. How long will they ignore what real threats and their consequences look like?

The title does have “Jew” in it, Darleen.

On the other hand, I’ve noticed that they haven’t turned Dan Brown’s stupid book into a stupid movie starring Nicholas Cage, so . . .

Then there is the small matter of the “honkification” of “The Sum of All Fears” (along with the Afflekication of the same film…).

From the “scholar” who started the ball rolling in getting this book censored:
I walked through a metal detector to see ‘Last Temptation of Christ,’” the controversial 1980s film adaptation of a novel that depicted a relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. “I don’t have a problem with historical fiction. I do have a problem with the deliberate misinterpretation of history. You can’t play with a sacred history and turn it into soft core pornography.
So, he goes to see the “Last Temptation of Christ”, which he uses as bona fides that he has no problem with historical fiction, for the proposition that “you can’t play with sacred history . . .”
this person is an imbecile. Why are so many of our college professor’s unable to think rationally? First – does this person have any idea on what “fiction” means? Second, how is depicting Jesus as having an affair with MM not “playing with sacred history”.
these people really have no clue. the left is completely out to lunch when it comes to rational thought.

I will guarantee that this guy had no problem with “piss christ” and all of that other “art”, but the minute you even discuss islam with anything but reverence, then it is a problem. What is wrong with these people?
I seriously do not understand the mindset of the left.

Rosie says we have a problem with Christian Extremists in our country … In between tubs of Swedish meatballs.

Why are so many of our college professors unable to think rationally?
Because rational thought don’t get you tenure, that’s why.

All the morons who called each other ‘brave’ and did back slaps for making lame bush bashes over the years… any minute now I expect them to continue to do nothing….
Comment by TheGeezer on 8/6 @ 2:25 pm #
Well, then it would seem one may avoid Christian Extremists by not stepping in areas between tubs of Swedish meatballs.

Pick your poison, Geezer. Christian Extremists or Rosie feasting! WHAT WILL YOU DO?????

I walked through a metal detector to see ‘Last Temptation of Christ,’
What? Thats stupid.
When I went to see it, yes there were protesters saying it wasn’t about the real Christ. And there was this barefoot guy who shoved some pamphlets in my hands saying that he was the real Christ.
Which was funny to me, but OTOH the only person to actually come up and touch me was a freak, so YMMV I guess.
Comment by Rob Crawford on 8/6 @ 3:31 pm #
When I went to see it, it was introduced by a Catholic priest and a minister from some other denomination. This was in the middle of Illinois, by the way.

Oh, and the theater I saw “Dogma” in has been turned into a mega-church.
Comment by Trimegistus on 8/6 @ 3:48 pm #
So . . . let me follow his logic here:
1. Back in the 1980s, the threat of a violent reaction from Christians was exaggerated, leading to ridiculous precautions like metal detectors at theaters.
2. Therefore, Random House shouldn’t publish something about Muhammad.
I don’t quite see the link, somehow.

I’m not sure who are the bigger cowards here.
Is it Random House or the morons who would terrorize and kill for words?
What the hell is happening here? When will the first murderous terrorist be aquitted because of religion? I can guarantee that whoever it is, it won’t be Christian.
