Speaking to ABC News on Monday night, the Democratic presidential candidate said that he believes it is possible to crack down on terrorists and threats against the U.S. “within the constraints of the Constitution.â€Â
“Let’s take the example of Guantanamo. What we know is that in previous terrorist attacks, for example, the first attack against the World Trade Center, we were able to arrest those responsible, put them on trial. They are currently in U.S. prisons, incapacitated,†Obama said.
“And the fact that the administration has not tried to do that has created a situation where not only have we never actually put many of these folks on trial, but we have destroyed our credibility when it comes to rule of law all around the world, and given a huge boost to terrorist recruitment in countries that say, ‘Look, this is how the United States treats Muslims.’ So that, I think, is an example of something that was unnecessary. We could have done the exact same thing, but done it in a way that was consistent with our laws,†he added. *

I think the word he’s after is “incarcerated” but who am I to say, he’s so clean and bright and articulate. In any case, they sort of missed Osama Bin Laden in their legal sweep of the terrorists. Seems like that led to something further a few years later, but I haven’t seen any mention of it for a long time in the press so maybe it never happened.

For all the people who figured because GW has a hard time talking in public (but no one who has dealt with him one on one says he is “dumb”), Barry’s performance everytime he goes off script would have bounced him from the primaries if the letter after his name was “R”. The press would have eaten him alive.

- I gotta say that I hardly think Obama is an idiot. I think he is a young, old time politician who choose a path he saw to success without realizing how really bad some of the crap that passes for intelligence under the big tent really sounds when you have to stand on a stage and actually try to sell it.
- I’ll bet that with some of the talking points that are basically forced on him, he actually cringes inside sometimes, even as he says them.
- I notice lately hes taken to looking down ar his shoes as he says things, like he did today when trying to explain that Bin Laden should really be treated like a normal felon, under suspicion but legally not yet convicted or tried.
- Small wonder. Today one of the former heads of the CIA said that this idea that foriegn terrorists can be treated like common criminals and tried under American law is the single most dangerous idea that hes ever seen foisted off on the American public.
- That can’t be giving him warm fuzzies when he has to parrot this hard Left crap day after day. That much slack i’m willing to give him, because I don’t really think hes anymore stupid than Bush, just badly misguided, and poorly managed.
- The hard Left nutbags are so steeped in their anti-American fairy tales they can’t even hold their ammunition and lie their way into office. BDS and all the ugly Bush/War demonization that flows from the Left is that deep.
- Now THAT is some kind of stupid.

- I don’t think you’d really want to live under the nexus of the true majority feelings cynn. But more than that, such a thing could only work if decisions at the highest level were actually done by N:ational concensus. They are not. If for any reason the codes needed to be sent for a nuclear launch in retaliation to being attacked on that level, we would not be consulyed. And a thousand other decisions that we do not have a direct voice in. Representative government, not absolute votive government.
- So. Because its true that we only indirectly effect high level decision making, thats why it becomes critical that we don’t elect anyone that could go apeshit on us, or even has a off the wall naive mindset when it comes to dealing with the world.

- See cynn, what really bothers me more than anything is all this partisan bickering back and forth only serves to obfuscate and bury what is really going on. And I don’t care a damn whether its being done by a Republican or a Democrat administration, the result is exactly the same. We take our eyes off the real issues and get kicked in the ass. Kicked in the ass for real, because the world isn’t a poli-sci theories class, and if you turn your back and get caught playing mental masturbation once too often you may not have any country to worry about anymore.
- Kennedy – Basically a good man, generally with common sense, let his personal Feud and ego blur his judgment, and got into a “my missiles are bigger than your missiles” pissing contest with the Shoe pounding “We will bury you” nutcase Khruschev, and there we were a few days or hours away from nuclear annihilation. If you weren’t alive at that time, you just have no idea how close we came, and how bad things really were. People were actually making out their last will and testiments, and it really was no exageration. We really did not know as we sat next to our radios and TV’s for hours on end waiting for some sort of news, and news. I never want to go through that again, and I don’t want anyone else to have to either.
- Nixon with his idiotic “enemies list”, and his bullshit war with the hippie generation, while all along neither he, nor the majority of the country, Right or Left had a fucking clue as to what was actually going on behind the scenes.
- Carter [ His bullshit pacifism and mishandling of the ME is probably the one greatest element in this whole fucking WOT we have on our hands today. The Iranians looked at him and saw “dumb ass” and they were off to the races. And now you have him running around STILL trying to claim he was doing the right thing. It just boggles the mind.
- Clinton, in spite of his red faced blustering, knows he fucked up in going after Bin Laden, but you think hes ever going to admit that?
- Now you have Obama. He starts out every speech with tough looking assurance, like he really knows where hes going and how to deal with things, and then after listening to him for awhile you begin to wonder just what the fuck hes talking about and what he stands for. He really is a blank slate at this point, other than the far Left talking points he mimics on cue.
- In other words, just not somethone you know well enough you could afford to take a chance with, even if you could stomach his collectivist Utopian ideas.
- No thanks. Not on my watch if I can help it.

Big Bnad, don’t you know those Missiles were part of pledge, Khruschev had made in the summer of 1960, and the men and material began arriving in the fall of 1961; after the disastrous Vienna summit, where Kruschev discovered Kennedy’s pull
out from his promise of support for Cuban exile liberations schemes were’foreplay’;
So would the Berlin wall prove the point.
As has been pointed out, Dean, wrote up
the enemies list, which formalized what had been informal practices in the 60s
under Kennedy and Johnson. Nixon was right
to see the idiocy of the student movement
ignorance; who were as clueless then as Moveon is now. Despite defeating them by rallying Middle America, he was ultimately
toppled by the left coalition, along with help from dissident rightists like Mark Felt, and the Navy spy ring surrounding Admiral Moorer; for his detente maneuvers Carter was the vessel, for the antiwar movement that saw every problem as Vietnam; hence the shunning of the Shah
and Somoza, not caring for theconsequences
of such a power vaccuum in their respective regions. The support for Pakistan’s hand picked Afghan rebels and the Iraq card; was the flipside of this action. Which we still live with the consequences today. Clinton was the ‘randier’ 2,0 version of Carter with
almost equally bad consequences. the rise
to power of Chavez, the Taliban, the useless courting of the Iranian mullacracy
and of of course, the hap hazard campaign against AQ; which eerily reflected the utopian vision of proportional responses
in Aaron Sorkin’s oevre. Danzig’s “Way of the Pooh” is just the logical extension of this process.

Obama is clearly not stupid, and comments that espouse this POV don’t get to the core of the matter, which is he holds beliefs that you fundamentally disagree with. “Obama is stupid” is dimissive rather than disputative (if that’s even a word), and so a little subpar for PW comments.

I don’t care if Barry can’t think on his feet. And if he can’t, which seems true, I would prefer he think things through – which he doesn’t seem to do either.

- “[Obama] wants to strike the terrorists where ever they are in the world. Rudi should be after George Bush, not Obama, we should be in Afghanistan and Pakistan where the people that attacked us are at, not Iraq. “If” al Qaeda has been destroyed in Iraq like the Republicans say, then we should be using our troops in the places where the terrorists are. Thats the trouble with the actions taken pre-9/11….Not enough was done to take it to the terrorists on offense instead of defense.”.
- Oops.?. Huh?. Say what? Oh, I get it. Lets see.
- So now that the Narrativeâ„¢ has been officially changed, I guess this means that the Obama camp side of the Lefturd crap heads has officially thrown Hillery and Bill under the back of the bus.
- Can these assholes say the same thing two days in a row. I don’t think its possible.
- So this weeks talking poing is that Obama has suddenly decided to “get tough” on the terrorists.
- O1 bullshit.

I just don’t suffer from Harvard Genius Validation Syndrome.
The left look at their standard bearers and say “brilliant”. That’s the mantra. But I look at them and think that if they were in a lifeboat, they’d be the first ones eaten because food would be about all they could contribute.
“Look guys, you need to row harder in that general direction. I can’t row, I’m a Harvard grad. I need to sleep and then I’ll come up with another idea here soon. Could you move that tarp so that I’m totally in the shade? I’ll need another Snickers bar for brain food.”
“I dibs his arms.”

1: Now that is what I am talking about. Someone got in my ass for calling Bush an idiot. Now I am against calling people Nazis or baby murderers or some really off the wall shit. But calling our politicans idiots or dumbasses? That is our patriotic duty. Especially when they are saying or doing stupid assed shit.
Lisa, and Darleen further down-thread – I was specifically referring to those comments by him. It was a really (fucking) stupid thing to say.

- I take it that that sort of response would include people like this Allen Smith guy on FOX this morning then, where he was doing a yeoman job of trying to dig the SecProggs out of the hopeless hole they’ve gotten themselves into on the WOT, until he fucked up at the end.
- Check.

#94: I avoid smoking crack and watching Fox News in the morning. Both are terrible lifestyle choices.
Comment by CArin -BONC on 6/18 @ 6:40 am #
I will further add, that I think few politicians are fucking stupid. Except Maxine Waters. Rocks in that head.
Comment by Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) on 6/18 @ 6:41 am #
- Never touched drugs in my life Lisa. Nada, The Left has always done things that way, because when your politics are totally fucked up, your head might as well be too. Makes sense.
Comment by Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) on 6/18 @ 6:54 am #
- And while we’re on the subject, now that the polls show that only 19% agree that we should not be accessing our own oil resources, I await with great anticipation, the sudden 180 coming out of the Obama camp in that area.
- Watching the polls driven knee-jerk reaction of the Left on a daily basis is like watching a clown car act at the circus, only with even more chaos added for our viewing enjoyment.
- Not to be outdone, McDinosaur did his flip-flop yesterday. so I guess that makes it unanimous. Our illustrious government and candidates finally get it. Isn’t that great?
Comment by Darleen on 6/18 @ 6:54 am #
Carin
Ah. Yes. People can say or do very stupid things without being congenitally stupid.
When Barry is off script, the Community Organizer(tm) talks stupid. And can usually be counted on to demonstrate his historical ignorance.
Comment by alppuccino on 6/18 @ 6:56 am #

That is probably true, but then I will add that the capitol building does not hold our best and brightest.
Comment by Darleen on 6/18 @ 6:56 am #
Oh my God! Obama is actually going to respect the U.S. constitution? We are doomed.
Really? I just heard a shallow guy say he was going to follow a SCOTUS ruling he liked.
Comment by Lisa on 6/18 @ 7:01 am #
#96: Maxie is not completely stupid. I actually saw her speak at a townhall in LA and she was rather eloquent. She is crazier than a shithouse rat though.
Comment by Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) on 6/18 @ 7:06 am #
#102 – Ok Lisa, I now have a mess of a monitor to clean up. Since I read your posts on a regular basis, its probably just as well I never did drugs.
Comment by CArin -BONC on 6/18 @ 7:34 am #
No, sorry, she’s stupid. Anyone who admires Castro and Hugo … is stupid. Anyone who wants to
socializenationalize the oil industry is stupid.Comment by McGehee on 6/18 @ 7:54 am #
Um, how did this thread get all the way up to 104? Where am I? What are we talking about?
Comment by McGehee on 6/18 @ 7:55 am #
Then shouldn’t all of your comments be in 48-point boldface type?
Comment by ThomasD on 6/18 @ 7:57 am #

Oh my.
No, not really, but my irony meter just redlined. Sugartits.

‘Look, this is how the United States treats Muslims.’
Did Baracky really say this?
Comment by Sdferr on 6/18 @ 8:04 am #
He said ‘they say’. Easy cop-out for that one. The real question is, do they actually say that? No, probably they are not that stupid.
Comment by Pablo on 6/18 @ 8:08 am #
Yes, but there’s a bit of context missing that softens the schtoooopoidity of the remark just a little bit. See here.
Comment by Lisa on 6/18 @ 8:41 am #
That is not your irony meter. You just forgot your anxiety pills again.
;-)
Comment by Lisa on 6/18 @ 8:42 am #
#106: LOL.
Comment by CArin -BONC on 6/18 @ 8:50 am #
Pablo – I missing your point. What part of that article put O!™’s comment into context that makes it a little less (fucking) stupid?
That we treated the first attack on the WTC like a criminal action was, at least in no small part, why we got Khobar, Cole, and WTC part II.
Comment by Sdferr on 6/18 @ 9:06 am #
I didn’t get ’softens’ either Carin. Seems more like a 10lb sledge on a 20d spike to me.
Comment by thor on 6/18 @ 9:16 am #
Oh alp, you’re saying you’d massage the Messiah in a pre-tenderizing ritual? He ain’t Kobe so no matter what you slather on him he’s going to taste like chicken. Put the meat mallet away my man.
Comment by Obstreperous Infidel on 6/18 @ 9:44 am #
No, he definitely ain’t like Kobe. Kobe just got through getting his ass handed to him. Obama will fare much better.

I dunno, but now I’m fixated on Lisa’s ass. Could be a good day after all.

Rusty, yeah. I probably should have gone to my bunk. I hope I didn’t frighten the horses.

Maybe with the proper Southwestern Mesquite Rub. C’mon thor. You can’t convince me that you think Barry would grab an oar and start pulling. He’s cuddly with Al Gore. You hate Al Gore. C’mon!!
Comment by thor on 6/18 @ 6:30 pm #
Yes I hate Al Gore, fully-completely. But this Barry fellow has ears you can make meal of. And he writes well.
Comment by alppuccino on 6/18 @ 6:32 pm #
You know what? Those ears would scoop up a shit load of queso and quac.

#120: Yeah I enjoyed Dreams of My Father. He is a lovely writer. And he is cute.
Comment by Senator Oz (D-Emerald City) on 6/18 @ 6:59 pm #
If he’s like most politicians and celebrities… his ghost writer writes well.
Comment by B Moe on 6/18 @ 10:03 pm #
A lot of us could write well if we got a $40k advance on our first book.
Comment by Pablo on 6/18 @ 10:13 pm #
Carin,
Just the “Other people think this.” aspect that the quote is lifted out of. It’s still wicked stupid, don’t get me wrong. But it’s less stupid than if he expressed the sentiment personally.
