Good night, Hedley [Darleen Click]

Harvey Korman
RIP, Harvey Korman.

LOS ANGELES — Harvey Korman, the tall, versatile comedian who won four Emmys for his outrageously funny contributions to “The Carol Burnett Show” and was seen to hilarious effect on the big screen in “Blazing Saddles,” died Thursday. He was 81. [...]

“A world without Harvey Korman – it’s a more serious world,” said “Blazing Saddles” director Mel Brooks in an AP interview. “It was very dangerous for me to work with him because if our eyes met we’d crash to floor in comic ecstasy. … It was comedy heaven to make Harvey Korman laugh.”

My favorite bits: Hedley Lamarr in Blazing Saddles and the Gone with the Wind skit on the Carol Burnett show.

That’s remarkable learning such a thing from a blog. I am very sorry to hear of his death. Harvey Korman was a fucking riot. I love that guy. Some of the happiest times in my life were when I was a little boy watching that man and Carol Burnett make my family and the whole country laugh. Bless his and his loved ones’ hearts.

I ended up crying on the floor.

    Fair winds, Navy. Rest.

Rest in peace, Heddy, errr… Hedley, umm… Harvey. Thanks for keeping me laughing for 40 years.

When I was a kid, I didn’t like him on Carol Burnett because he was always ruining the sketches by laughing. I wondered why he didn’t have enough professionalism to keep it together.

Then I learned that Tim Conway would totally ad lib and go off-script just to crack him up. So I forgave him, and now I wish Carol Burnett were on again.

The voice of The Great Gazoo is stilled.

    Raisonettes!

I think his best Carol Burnett skit was his parody of Otto Preminger. I’ll look for it on YouTube and then figure a way to link it here.

There’s good Hedley and Carol Burnett stuff on YouTube, including the GWTW parody. If you want to see Korman cracking up, watch the “Dentist sketch.”

Godspeed, Harvey. Go do that voodoo that you do so well.

“I want rustlers, cut throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswogglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ass-kickers, shit-kickers and Methodists.”

That’ll be one helluva memorial service.

Okay, that was weird. One of the local channels here in SoCal runs syndicated reruns of Scrubs in chronological order, and the episode they just ran was this one, in which we find out the full name of the character played by Richard Kind. Click on the link, trust me.

I used to watch the Carol Burnett show every week growing up. Those guys were way cool and funny. I recently watch the GWTW parody on youtube. Recommended if you haven’t seen it.

I loved the dentist sketch. He was always such a good straight man for Tim Conway. The sketch where Tim Conway was the decrepit fireman and Harvey Korman was trying to keep a straight face as Conway shuffles across the floor with the firehose.

That show was hysterical. I was just talking to my mom about how funny it was (I will never forget Carol Burnett’s version of Snow White with the sagging boobs and fat ass).

I meant to say I also loved the sketch where Tim Conway was the decrepit fireman and Harvey Korman was trying to keep a straight face as Conway shuffles across the floor with the firehose.”
