Against Robophobia [Dan Collins]

Obama opines that Algore won the 2000 election.

h/t JD & thanks Maggie Katzen

I’m glad to see he’s reaching out.  I mean, that HIV/AIDs as narrowly targeted against the black community thing was so parochial.   It turns out that everyone who didn’t vote for Bush has been victimized.  We’re talking inclusivity; we’re talking Big Tent Victimization; we’re talking Rich White Folk vs The Peops.

Next thing you know, we’ll be labelled elitophobes.

Why is he saying this? Because it makes sense given that he will have the edge in the popular vote, but maybe not so much in the superdelicates (Dem Electoral College(?)). So, if Gore actually won… then… well, you get the point.

    Superdelicates? I hate hand-washables.

Gore did win the popular vote. And amongst Black Liberation Theologists it wasn’t even close!

Who was it around here that swore they’d never-ever, never-ever vote for McCain? Ha!

It wasn’t me, thor. Look it up.

    I might’ve said it, but can’t remember.

    I think it was Nishi.

the single most astonishing conclusion from this and other recent Obama speaks is this: He’s actually succeeded in making hillary sound somewhat reasonable.

Well dress me up and call me Shirley.

Thor, I don’t get how much of your posturing is satire and how much is closely held beliefs. The vast majority of commentators expressed their reluctance/disgust/disappointment with the idea of voting for McCain (including me.) A few (most notably Mr. Goldstein) have clung to the plan of allowing one or the other Dem candidate to win the election so that they can screw up the country and allow a “real” conservative to be elected in 2012.

Whatever. I’m dissatisfied with all three candidates. That being said I will vote for McCain, who, IMHO, has established himself as “Least Dissatisfying.” Obama has moved from second to third in the pecking order for his dismal unitee and hopilicious performanace over the past few months, allwing him to surge (hee) past both the Hildebeast and Grumpy McTempertantrum in being a plain fraud. If you want to characterize me as girly little panty waist for Republicans then FLAME ON!

And no, thor, I don’t have to call the FBI if Obama’s a clear fraud. That’s what the elections are for. Also, please quit rubbing yourself all over those Vick posters.

Once again, the key ingredient in effective parody. That’s why thor is the Sacha Baron Cohen of commentators. He’s never out of character. But he’ll slip up. Just wait.

Oh, and I may have said that I would never vote for McCain.

    IN THE PRIMARY. HA!!

Gore did win the popular vote.

I hope that doesn’t encompass Obama’s understanding of the US electoral process.

I said I’d have to tie-one-on to vote for McCain. It’ll be a party.

  12. Comment by Dan Collins on 4/14 @ 7:31 am #

I think we need to dig up the 2000 election so we can look to the future and MoveOn.org.

I read yesterday (perhaps this was covered, but i missed it) that Illinois has joined the “let’s get rid of the electoral college” movement. They signed a bill into law to go by popular vote if other states did it as well.

It really makes me frightened for the level of intelligence of politicians.

Gore did win the popular vote.

    And?

Hint: the presidency isn’t decided based on the popular vote. Never has been. God willing, never will be.

Gore did win the popular vote.

Except for in his home state. Where they knew him. But they were obviously rustics. Bitter, bitter rustics.

If only we’d simply allow New York, Chicago, and the cities of California to pick our president. Think how much better off we’d be.

POPULAR VOTE NOW! THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE DENIED!

  17. Comment by Dan Collins on 4/14 @ 8:04 am #

I wonder if they’d be willing to trade the Electoral College for strict voting registration and identification laws.

    Didn’t think so.

Who was it around here that swore they’d never-ever, never-ever vote for McCain? Ha!

    Here.

The rate the Dems are going, McCain wouldn’t need my vote anyway.

    Transcendant Irony Moment:

Gov. Ed Rendell of PA and long time Clinton pimper was being interviewed on my local all news radio station. When he was asked about superdelegates he defended the practice without hesitation and then proceeded to lecture the interviewer on how the Dem’s superdelegate system helps to insure that the candidate who wins the popular vote and is thus imbued with the magic elixer of “electability” would then get the nomination. This would be in the best tradition of “one person, one vote and all the votes count.”

    BWAAAA HAHAHAHA!!!

The good guv has perhaps lost the political second sight that might have shown him the delicious irony of using the “count all the votes so all votes count” meme, a cry used by Dem activists largely in support of minority voters, to promote bypassing the delegate system and the black unitey guy to nominate the white woman.

And now Barack speaks about Al Gore and the popular vote. I laugh and laugh and laugh some more!

Some of these loons think we live in a democracy. What a hoot.

Can you imagine how scary things could get if every decision was made by a 50% +1 majority of the entire population? Frightening.

I’m not hear to change your mind, I’m just an axe-handle carrying, bonfire building Texas Aggie. My opinion is just another floating chunk of something funny in the chili cheese dip.

And that’s what I don’t get about you, BJ, you’re to the right of John McCain, which means you’re obviously in the minority of the Republican party, moreover, you’re a extremist by pure definition. Minority. Extremist. These labels work in both directions. If all you’re going to do is pre-label Baracky then you should expect the same.

Obama seems like a nice enough fellow. He joined that spear-chunkers church because it was a meeting place of persons in the Southside of Chicago that had Afro-cred. The man is/was a half-white guy trying to solidify a voting base in a very African American area. I don’t hold that against him. He was ambitious politically – stand back burrito!

I’m just trying to give him a fair shake amongst you (especially the Karl-ilk) people who so opaquely bash the nice young man.

I like Barack Obama. He’s no Henry Cisneros, who was everyone’s favorite Tex-Mexican only for reasons of being a handsome semi-non-threatening Aggie beaner. This Obama has some fight to him. Yes he does. And I believe he flipped you boys the bird on several occasions now.

HA! This one here is a fighter! Nope, you boys ain’t dealing with no broke Negro.
